Crazetex said:Would you recommend this game to somebody fairly new to RTS games? I mean, I've played some Warcraft 3, but Blizzard is incredibly good at streamlining a game. I'm a little worried since it looks cool but RTS games intimidate me. They're like the genre that bullies me back into my corner playing my jRPGs. :<
<GAF> Play CivV, then this
Sinatar said:Play Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic instead of this. It's everything this game is trying to be, just utterly better in every single regard.

With Civ V, Madden, Halo etc I just have Elemental on the back-burner. Based on what I have played of it, however, I fully expect Elemental to be my favorite game of 2011.
arstal said:I'd disagree. Aow: SM AI is worse, and game has its own set of problems, which will never get fixed. AoW1 is fun for the campaign, and SM is alright, but only shines in MP.
Elemental is improving weekly right now.
KuroNeeko said:Elemental is a TBS game, meaning that you'll be assigning only one or two actions to your units / cities each turn. You don't have any of the pressure to build or move units out quickly, nor will you have to worry about how fast your hands are moving. Think Final Fantasy 1 or Civilization rather than Starcraft.
The game itself is fun, but still needs work. In all honesty, if you have other games you're interested in - you might want to look into those first and come back to Elemental a few months down the road. It has a lot of potential and an interesting aesthetic but right now I think its more appealing to fans of the old Master of Magic title. Still needs a bit more to stand on its own.

PLYMOUTH, MICHIGAN - October 12, 2010 - Stardock Entertainment, developer and publisher of award-winning PC games, announced today that Derek Paxton has joined the studio as senior producer and will oversee Stardock's ongoing development and expansions of the recently released fantasy strategy game, Elemental: War of Magic (www.elementalgame.com).
Paxton is the creator and lead designer of the Fall from Heaven series of fantasy strategy games. Prior to joining Stardock, he was an external consultant for Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword and contributed to several of Firaxis's games including the recent Civilization V.
"This is the opportunity to marry my professional project manager career with my passion for game design," said Paxton. "I'm especially excited to work with the talented people at Stardock who have always been focused on creating great PC strategy games. I'm currently immersing myself in the world of Elemental, and I think everyone will be excited to see what is coming from Stardock Entertainment."
Anno said:So is anyone playing currently? I'm trying to get into these types of games. I've played the 100-turn Civ 5 demo 3 times now and while I do like it I'm not really sure that it's grabbing me enough to want to spend $50. The opening just seems so...slow, I guess. Too much spamming the end turn button. I also don't really like that it progresses so quickly. I know these are items that the full game handles better than the beta so I'm not entirely counting it out.
I'd like something that allows me to focus more on taking things at a slow pace and gradually building a few really cool cities, a nice army and, eventually, waging warfare on a grand scale across a huge map. Would Elemental be any more conducive to that than Civ is? For what it's worth I like Elementals aesthetics much more, as well as the tactical combat and the fact that the game doesn't progress through time.

Honestly one of my biggest problem with the game is how fucking ugly your Sovereign is, there's simply no way to customize him to the point that you're even remotely okay with his appearance (and that of course applies to every other character in the game) : I Couldn't they at least have put in an effort on the hair and beards and not make them look like something straight out of FFVII?eznark said:Bigger story for Elemental is the writer that joined. 2. AI better at queuing units to be trained.
3. AI unit design improved.
4. Crash fixes in the battle engine.
5. Resolved an end of turn crash.
6. Fixed a multi-threaded crash in evaluate relations.
7. More resources at placed on the map (about 50% more than 1.1).
eznark said:That's what I thought too. He is certainly listed as the author.
Also, the world and the conflicts in the novel aren't dull. (The writing is bad, but the universe is sort of promising)

Elemental: Fallen Enchantress includes an all-new battle system, more sophisticated spell casting, an updated economic system, new game mechanics, more creatures, quests and much more.
Elemental: Fallen Enchantress will be released as a stand-alone game but will be free to all players who purchased Elemental: War of Magic in 2010 and will be heavily discounted for anyone who purchases Elemental: War of Magic prior to Fallen Enchantresss anticipated Summer 2011 release.
biocat said:The game is 50% off this weekend on Impulse. Is it worth it after all the patching? Kind of tempted considering I almost pre-ordered it at full price.
