Okay, Muse will never be on the halftime show. Even if they were as popular as they would be if this were a fair world, it just won't happen.

Even if you've never heard Muse before, how could you not enjoy this live at the Superbowl?

Haha I was thinking the exact same thing. No way do these teenyboppers have a clue who this fucking guy is. They're probably wondering how Skeletor managed to get past NFL security and are waiting for He-Man to show up.

I think you'd be surprised how popular petty still is. At my college he's still consistently played.

TOm Petty was great. when he was younger. Now hes gone all Bob dylan and Willie nelson. Hes rotting on stage.
I always liked all these songs though. He didnt get into the rock and roll hall of fame for nothing.

man, what a horrible halftime show. The game is pretty good but I'm not really into it yet. I can't blame it being low scoring and about defense, though. It's motherfucking Joe Buck and Aikman taking out any kind of emotion or interest in this game whatsoever that makes me bored watching it.

You must not get laid at your college often, huh?

I like Petty, but that show really makes you appreciate what Prince did last year. The moment where he broke out "Best of You" by the Foo Fighters was better than that entire show. And "Purple Rain" in the rain, was a moment that was pretty unforgettable.

Glad he played "American Girl" though. No "Waiting" = disappointment.

You people are morons. You're no better than any of the sports writers tomorrow who will just bitch and moan about everything from the Super Bowl, saying this was especially terrible.

smh

Anything is better than Nipple Jackson and about to die Rolling Stones. Tom Petty knows how to rock.

...but I didn't say I've never heard Muse. I'm pretty sure I implied they are pretty damned good.

Whether music is good or not has absolutely nothing to do with whether it is played during the Super Bowl halftime show. Hell, the opposite has been true for about 95% of the shows. New Kids on the Block were the first musical act other than college marching bands for christ's sake.

Kinda blown away by the responses in this. Petty played 4 absolutely classic songs and they all sounded great. What more could you ask for?

I was just arguing that they'd make for a great halftime show even if you've never heard their music before.

Nobody is arguing the quality of the songs... It's the fact that the band is OLD and they had ZERO energy or stage presence. Performing live is all about putting on a show and bringing out some life from your performances. Petty had none of it.

I could ask for some maturity from the kiddies posting on here but we both know that's never gonna happen.

Just reinforces the fact that most of GAF is full of fail

Petty was fucking awesome. No frills, no dancers, no marching band, no colorguard, no F-14 formations, no lip-syncing, no bullshit. Predictable song choice, but what are you going to do, it's the Superbowl.

But I guess some people are more into the bloated, grandiose, fake turds that Superbowl halftime performances usually are.

Anyway, back to the game!

I generally never pay attention to half-time.

yeah i have it muted and i'm listening to some zeppelin.

if you don't like the music, mute it and put on your own shitty music... don't come in here and bitch about it like come on there's so little talk about the actual game in here right now.

He's right. Those songs are absolute classics. Better than some American Idol garbage they could have used.

Anyways,

BACK TO THE GAME.

Dude.. it's Tom Petty. I'm embarrassed for Mick Jagger when I see him strutting around at his age. The solos were *tight* -- there wasn't a single flaw in the performance.

I'd love to see Muse play.. that would be amazing. Never gonna happen in the US though.

Aww, look! NeoGAF music elitist! A band gets popular, and the elitists stop listening to them. Go drench yourself in the tripe that is NMH and Battles.
