Elite Dangerous: Horizons |OT| Just scratching the surface

I'd be very focused on PvE stuff as that is my preference. I was also had the understanding that a new version with the new dlc was coming this summer? Am I wrong?

I’m not sure about any new version. However, in regards to the game itself, it’s just fun. What I like is that it’s newbie friendly as well. A lot of players have been playing for years, but new players can still jump in and get going.

I’d recommend it for sure.

Anyone still play this? Got it on the most recent steam sale and now I am considering a HTOAS for it but not sure what one to get and don't want to spend a ton considering I don't even know if I dig the game yet. Any tips for HOTAS with oculus play?

I play Elite weekly but not with a HOTAS.
However having done many things in the game including Gardian beacons,Gnosis incident,Mega ships,Thargoid combat and many trips just exploring the verse I would say its long term appeal is in the lore and the itch to find new things!

I haven’t used the pedals on Elite; they were bought for flight simulators. (*edited - only box there’s not been a ton of spare gaming time lately)

I assume I’d map them for rudder control, same as any aircraft. It’ll add precise yaw control for landing, maneuvers, and ofc precision weapon control.

Ok so I caved and got the T16000m joystick and throttle but didn't opt for the pedals and might in the future. Is there any good tutorials for setting these up in games like elite or house of the dying sun? I tried it in there and I can fly a bit but it was mapping things odd so stick works fine but I need to follow someone elses setup to just nail down some buttons and learn them from there I think.

I think you need to set it up how you think it's comfortable for you. Spend half an hour in the config screen going over each option, gauging its usefulness and where you'd like it to be placed/reachable, as you go over the list of controls you'll change mind and prioritize something else and go back to redo what you chose at first etc. Then you see how it is in practice, if you forgot something important for in or out of combat settings and optimize it as you play more and get used to it. I have that joystick and set the axis so forward/back is pitch, left/right is roll and twist is rudder, like a flight sim, then the trigger is primary fire, the middle thumb button secondary, the left and right ones to switch targets, alternative functions like shift + another button set to something non combat like scanner and so on. I want the throttle but it's expensive on its own here, so I use the keyboard for the rest. Maybe I'll get the full hotas when MechWarrior 5 is out and alternate between twin joysticks and joystick + throttle depending on the game.

This will be doable... GAF Clan??

Harken back to the old MPlayer days with Mech 2...

WTB Cockpit stomp - please send Shadowcat!

I really wanted to like ED, I really did. I desperately wanted Elite 2 on my Atari ST when it came out but sadly only had 512k RAM instead of the required 1MB so didn't get to experience it (maybe it wouldn't have topped the wonder of Damocles anyway). Don't get me wrong, it's pretty, and looks lovely on my Rift, but there's just no meaningful game there, much like Frontier's other theme park game, it seems to be a hallmark of theirs to make games that are an inch deep and a mile wide.
