The funny thing is that some being granted a free blue check makes that now the status symbol. But because it's ambiguous in the UI people will claim they got theirs for free as well.
Wait…so if I understand it correctly there are now multiple accounts where the owners made a point about not paying for blue which are now getting blue for free to make a point or something?
Fucking lol
Antagonize your key users and demand that they pay you for the privilege of regaining their now meaningless status indicator. What could possibly go wrong.
If no one else pointed it out yet, I am pretty sure it falls under False Endorsement.
Meh that seems like a stretch to me honestly, it’s funny enough that it’s just completely against what the stated goals were.If no one else pointed it out yet, I am pretty sure it falls under False Endorsement.

I don’t doubt a team of lawyers would be willing to make the argument, and that they’d lose.I don't know man, I think a good team of lawyers could swing it. But who cares really, the company is dying regardless.
To be fair, all the people shit talking the SpaceX thing are doing so either out of ignorance or spite. Elon’s social media incompetence doesn’t negate what SpaceX has accomplished. That fat bitch flew real gud before it didn’t.
An exciting addition to the Disney Junior UK family:
verification's going great
Maher is backwards on Elon: he thinks SpaceX is stupid and this Twitter thing is great. It’ll be interesting to see how it goesWell, Elon will be on Bill Maher this Friday …
Let’s see what he says
...You could say that literally about anything though. Sure so and so is crazy but at least they're not a serial killer! That's called setting the bar low.Sure he is making a mess, but a common criminal is still 10 times worse than Elon Musk will ever be.

I hope he buys reddit next.
I mean I always wondered why we would “terraform another planet for us to live on”, when there are places like the deserts and such on our very own earth we can change the infrastructure of to make more habitableMaher is backwards on Elon: he thinks SpaceX is stupid and this Twitter thing is great. Yes, but he's not a bad guy, he's just in a powerful position. Criminals are bad people. I can go downtown right now and find 500 guys a lot worse than Elon Musk.Common criminals f-ups only affevt a small circle of people to be fair. Elon has a lot more power and therefore a lot more responsibility.
Also.... thats a terribly low bar
To be fair, I think companies and celebs should get it to prevent people knocking them off. Not that they dont spew stupidity and self serving promotions "anything for a buck". But if they want to do that, let them be a verified well known crazy shill. This blue checkmark shit is hilarious. I never knew people cared so much about such a meaningless thing. Just shows you how absolutely toxic social media is and why its probably the biggest mistake the internet ever made. All the virtue signaling and the absolutely cringe condescending-ness from dipshit celebrities really seals the deal. Not even defending Elon but him buying Twitter really showed the world how disconnected these people really are.
I don’t know if there’s a point to existing if it isn’t to aspire to better and greater things. The same reusable rocket tech that can put people on Mars can be used to mine precious minerals on asteroids, for example. Humans will have to leave Earth eventually, and we won’t unless we try.I mean I always wondered why we would “terraform another planet for us to live on”, when there are places like the deserts and such on our very own earth we can change the infrastructure of to make more habitable

Not saying Musk handled it correctly, more just that this is why I think putting such a huge dependence on social media in the first place is such a mistake. If important companies need to communicate their business/organization, doesn't this just further prove that social media like Twitter should be considered a public utility and not private? Imo there should be a much clearer distinction between social media and actual important communication, the checkmark thing is a symptom of this. But for all the normal folks who think they are so awesome they need a validation stamp, and even worse using Twitter for 10 years for free and dont want to pay up $100/yr is even funnier. Ok fine, you skip out hitting a pub a couple times during the year. Or skip one shitty cheap fast food combo once a month. Theres the Twitter fee paid for.
Just goes to show how Me, Me, Me so many people are. True born and bred attention whores and losers. Before the internet and social media, you couldnt do that unless you got famous and plugged on TV or newspaper articles. The opportunity wasnt there. But the inherent lust for popularity and verification from the masses was actually always there.
I have no idea how anyone or any company can effectively wade through a site with endless millions of people. It's such a weird thing because the traditional way of communicating is one on one. And for companies it's paid TV or magazine ads where they control it.Not saying Musk handled it correctly, more just that this is why I think putting such a huge dependence on social media in the first place is such a mistake. He's always been like that. Even years back when those Thai kids got trapped in a cave he was tweeting dumb shit. Before him twitter was a cauldron of hate and division but it is clear he has no clue how to actually run things. He is very unstable.
I find it hilarious that these hundred billion and trillion dollar companies like Sony and MS are refusing to pay subscription fees while forcing us to pay them every month just to be able to play online.Jim don't mess around.

Even they know these subs are a scam.
It’s totally reasonable to clarify that you didn’t pay for it after saying you wouldn’t pay for it.I think Elon's new verification stuff is utterly idiotic for various reasons verification is important for a variety of people. That said, I have to admit. Him trolling people by giving them their blue checks back and seeing insecure people scramble in full panic to announce to their followers "GUYS, LET ME BE CLEAR, I DID NOT IN ANY WAY PAY FOR TWITTER BLUE, PLEASE DON'T THINK I DID!" is absolutely hilarious.
It shows you how weak people are. They're legit scared of being shamed by a bunch of online nobodies that they have to announce to their followers that they didn't pay for it. Can you be any more insecure?
"Man previously convicted of child porn embarrassed he got caught paying for Twitter Blue" would make for a good Babylon Bee headline.
I think it depends on the reason one would clarify. If they have a bunch of people asking them if they paid for twitter blue and they're just responding to that as a "Hey, I have a bunch of people asking me if I paid for twitter blue. The answer to that question is no." That's fairly innocuous. It’s totally reasonable to clarify that you didn’t pay for it after saying you wouldn’t pay for it.
I gave you a fire reaction for your suggestion that Elon should buy Reddit next, because it's a funny idea, even though it'll never happen. That said, the same post is where you started down this road, and I just wanted to point out why I disagree.Yes, but he's not a bad guy, he's just in a powerful position. Criminals are bad people. I can go downtown right now and find 500 guys a lot worse than Elon Musk.
