"Politics is bad for business" - Disney's Bob Iger

KK still calls the shots over there. Everything goes through her.

I remember being excited when he was given creative control. However, he’s been in the role for 4 years and the Star Wars brand isn’t doing any better. Not the W I thought it would be.

Did he oversee The Acolyte?

Acolyte was done when he got the role. His first thing is Mandalorian & Grogu and Ahsoka S2.

Man...couldn't they have picked a different period to bring back Star Wars.

That ST is the most keenly felt gut punch from Disney. Just as the OT will never be forgotten. ST can never be forgiven. It has been written in stone and cannot be rescinded.

This thing is a giant steaming pile on the Mouse's legacy. Tragic.
Please… People forget so fast. All it would take is one good Star Wars movie and all is forgotten. I can see it coming. Just wait and see.

I personally think they can still make money with SW by course correcting but have already inflicted irreparable brand damage.

The core of that comes from the ST which is not only the focal point of all their new media but also blew having Ford, Hamil and Fisher ready.

Since the OT is so timeless, I don't think the ST can be forgotten. It will have to be accounted for, explained and judged for all time by any interested in the OT now, exposing Disney to ridicule.

I looked up Mandalorian & Grogu and it’s a new movie directed by Favreau. Could be decent, we’ll see. The Mandalorian TV show didn’t do anything for me. Didn’t watch Ahsoka S1 so I doubt I’ll jump in for S2.

No shit Bob.

Disney is just a legacy IP management company at this point. He can talk all he wants but the odds of being able to get rid of all the DEI acolytes in an organization that big, if indeed he really does want to - - which i doubt, are pretty low.

They're fucked and will remain so. They aren't going bankrupt or anything but their days as a truly cherished brand are completely over. Public goodwill is a finite resource, they spent too much of it

Idk about just being a legacy company as they still pump out a big hit every now and then like encanto, inside out 2 , and Moana 2 that have no stupid stuff in them.

I spent more than that on Lego SW lol...mostly in the past but I'll still bite once in awhile. I see Lego as your personal canon version. I just grabbed some discontinued Mando stuff after getting FOMO it'll go up in price soon. Now, Disney would have gotten more royalties out of me had I liked more of the movies, shows and characters.

I rearrange and replace the stuff on this shelf often and it's still an effective de-stressor. I'm leaning more into the quick fun scenes to tweak and redo style more than the 5000 piece ISD style lately...which is why I finally got the itch to actually dig out some prequel characters too.

Edit: Just realized you didn't spend 1k USD, maybe you spent as much or more than me! Also, god dammit that TIE Interceptor that just got discontinued Dec 31. I've wanted a Lego version of this classic SW ship since ancient times and we only got lucky now because it appeared in Mando finale...but they bundled it with that useless build to bump it to $100. So do I spend even more today on Lego before its value goes even higher? War never changes
I envy with Your Slave-1 (i refuse to call it "boba fett starship" just like because lego and disney hate word slave)
I started as lego collector in 2018. back when i was kid, i only collect random sets.

But Now my lego is like small empire. although I mostly bought minifigs. I have soft spot for grounded machines of empire.
and it's kind of the same. smallest lego could priced 3-6x mcdonald meals here. quite expensive hobby here.

last time i check I only had 200 storm troopers and some xx of clones : ))
I once also known as lego photographer. sometime works as professional based on my hobby as well.

dang, I missed star wars. I left as soon as boba fett and obi wan series is not good. and mando 3 hit hard nails in the end for me.

I really wish star wars could return as pioneer once more though, really

Dude, those photos...HOLY SHIT. The lighting and environment is so crazy you hardly notice they're detailed and equipped way better than mine lol.

This Slave 1 was actually called Slave 1 on the box! Lego has been calling it Slave 1 since 2000, it's Disney you gotta talk to.

The new style stormtrooper helmet gets a meh from me. Looks a bit goofy, and doesn't mesh with what I already have. So troopers in sets like that Tantive IV hallway, no longer really add any value to me, and make it appear even more badly overpriced, and easier to pass on. I would have taken notice too, because I only have about 20. I was an idiot and sold the clones from the OG Republic Gunship like the following year :pie_sfrown:

I also turned off after the Boba Fett show and lame Mando S3...had I started in 2018 I can see myself lapsing, but I was there in 1999 buying 3 speeder bike sets out of Wal-Mart's very first shipment lol. Yeah I don't buy nearly as much as back then but can't really stop the train. Still filling holes in the collection that have always bugged me. Old Star Wars is still good, hell I'll play the Endor mission of Rogue Squadron and swoosh an X-Wing and it's like Disney never happened 🤷‍♂️

I would see more eye candy if you have any, link or PM

This is old news but yes, welcome to the real world. Trans stories and lesbian kisses in kids movies are bad for business. So was the “force is female” nonsense. But that’s only part of their problems. They still need to figure out how to make good content. Removing controversial stuff will only do so much.
When it comes to LBGT stuff, only the most hardcore person wants that in children's content. I dont even get the jist the avg gay or lesbian wants that in kid's content either. But the extreme pink haired, double noseringer with a wacky Twitter profile would probably love it. That's not the way to make good products or succeed in business unless the product from the start is aimed at a niche market with low budgets. You dont do wacky shit like that to expensive products needing mass appeal for success.

It's no different now than 1000 years ago. Society has changed, but at its core were the same people. In 2025, people dont want this stuff in media content. And eons ago people paying 10 cents to get dropped off by horse and buggy to watch a live play of MacBeth doesn't want weird politics either. People want media to be entertained, not lectured to. If they want lectures about life and policies, they'll watch every city mayor's hour long speech they do every year about changes to the city.

Gender/sex swapping stories are best fit for dramas like Brokeback Mountain, or any cheesy romcom where everyone in the movie gets laughed at. The topic can be taken seriously or comedic, but there isnt a hardcore agenda nor involves kids.

One thing i can say, we love star wars, we fuel star wars. But disney betray us and choose to cater "new" market which is only loud, but they are non existence as fans. I can still remember how ST sales not good : ))

I think we will need to go to private conversation rather than talk here : ))

Its late night here, i will pm as i'm up soon 🙌
It is very nice to know other old fans btw, thanks 👍

The architect of the woke Disney era and master of blaming everyone but himself tells us something those racist, sexist, evil youtubers were telling him for almost a decade now. Thanks Bob, great insight

I would love to see their next movie retained that ridiculous psychological "gender" scene. If I had children I would totally sue Disney for that scene, doing that thing for children is beyond evil.

The funny thing is just like stocks there's money to be made anywhere. Good profits dont have to come from investing in the big projects or companies.

I think there is a market for crazy left products. And for Disney, it might work. But instead of trying to embed it into big budget mainstream TV/film which can bomb as it pisses off the masses, just do it more discretely.

Do some LBGT focused content in dirt cheap dramas or arthouse movies. The type of project that costs $2M to do, but maybe it might turn into $10M of sales. It's not Marvel or Pixar numbers, but you can still serve the various markets with different products and make some money.

Problem is Disney seems to prefer to jam it into their big franchises as an all-in-one strategy hoping it resonates with every audience segment. That's bad strategy.

Inside Out 2 was the highest grossing movie of last year a 1.6 billion.
Deadpool and Wolverine was the second highest at 1.3 billion.
Moana 2 was third at 0.99 billion. should cross billion soon.

stop spending all your time on twitter and step out in the real world.

For all the woke people saying why is it an issue if politics is in games or films. It's only not an issue because it's your politics. Make a game where the aim is to go into an area and capture and deport as many illegals as you can. You can have rarity levels like you have with loot. Watch the woke explode and then blame them for not buying it.

So is charging $3000 a day at "The most expensive place on earth"

Aka Disney World.

I took my girlfriend to Disney World for a full week back in 2015. We did the Disney dining plan package. You basically set up everything in the website. Your hotel, meals, flight, and car rental. Everything would be paid for except whatever merch you buy while there.

The entire trip cost $2300

Last year I checked to see how much it would take my now wife, and my son, to Disney. I only checked ticket prices and the cheapest hotel options. The tickets and hotel alone cost $3500. That doesn’t even include the flight. It’s just not worth it anymore.

It's not "politics" in general that's bad, it's the tearing down of culture and grooming children with sexuality lunacy that's bad for business.

Wholesome family values would not be rejected in the same way. That was the bread & butter of your brand prior to all the whack shit.

his masterful stroke was to leave Chapek with all the political shit infused projects, so everybody blamed him on the failures, then come in and "rescue" Disney from the problems he created... for an ungodly amount of money of course.

Not only is this bad for business, a recent ruling might deem investing in ESG illegal. Looks like this might be another data point on why corpos are turning away from DEI all of the sudden. In the biggest twist of Irony, Blackrock looks like they're backing out of it pronto in fear of being fined.

When those cheap loans run out, I think we're going to see a sharp and sudden decrease in the amount of it we see in entertainment. Shame it's probably too late for Star Wars and a bunch of other IPs.
