Embattled publisher Embracer finally has something to celebrate - the launch of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which it says is "fast approaching" 2m sales.

As part of the company's latest financial results, Embracer heaped praise on the medieval role-playing game for launching to over 1m copies sold in 24 hours, and a peak Steam concurrent count of 250,000 players.

"It is our strong belief that the game will continue to generate substantial revenues over the coming years, highlighting the exceptional quality, immersion and appeal of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2," Embracer noted.

"The success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a reminder of our core - to bring great products to the market," Embracer co-founder Lars Wingefors wrote.

"High-quality teams need to have the resources and the time to execute their visions. When you have the right teams, this trust benefits everyone, including gamers, employees and shareholders. I am convinced that we will remain among the industry leaders in our core business verticals in the future."

Surprised it’s taking them this long. FF7 Rebirth sold 2M right at launch for PS5 only.

I hope it ends up selling well as I’m 10 hours in and it’s the best game I’ve played since that aforementioned Rebirth. The original KCD had a long tail so maybe it keeps selling.

Where are you getting 2M sold for Rebirth exactly?

I have no idea about those numbers but I'm just gonna say I hope it sells even more. I'm totally engrossed and that is despite me finishing the original a week before KCD2's launch. I was afraid of getting fatigued deep down but I couldn't contain my hype, suffice to say I'm 50 hours in and still hungry for the game.

Square tweeted it out right at launch. There’s been no updates since then so we don’t know how it ultimately did.
AFAIK the 2M data was from an Ampere analysis after a month and a half from it's release, still non official numbers (there's nothing official i'd say)

Shame KCD2 on consoles wasn't as big of a success as on Steam, it's the best game released since BG3, and on my top 3 this generation easily.

I bet it'll have big legs with it's word of mouth, we're in a really really busy month, MH Wilds is going to overshadow everything, but i expect KCD 2 to overtake the prequel's sales "soon"

50 Hours! The game just came out. It must be really fun.

Pretty much the same for me. I figured I'd probably be ready to switch it up after finishing the original a week before KCD2 launch. But I'm pretty addicted still 50 hours in!

He's not talking player counts, he's talking quality

Pretty sure the game with invisible walls everywhere aint it (to be fair, KCD has some invisible walls at the edges of the map as well, stupid)
Oh, I read biggest game, not best game.

Eh, still BMW to me, but I’ll get on KCDII after Wilds. KCDII did review better though.

Pretty close to be.
I remember playing through it and being constantly astonished about the quality (and QUANTITY) of content in the game for a studio at their first release.
A bunch of occasional "invisible walls" aren't ANYWHERE NEAR enough to take this achievement away from them.

After googling, I think that I’m mixing things up a bit with a tweet about FF16 and projecting FF7 Rebirths sales. I apologize. I’ll go sit in a corner now (or put me in the stocks like Henry and sir Hans and throw rotten fruit at me)
Remake did do 3.5M in just 3 days, but then only 7M in over 3 years. You’d think it’d have easily cleared 10M in that span.

I'll let you guess the difference in budget between the two.

I’d be really interested to see the difference. I’m sure Rebirth’s is higher but KCD2 took a lot longer to make and has a shit ton of voice acting. It’s a AAA game too.

Good to see Embracer getting a win. They sure could do with more funds to support their other teams as well.
I know they were struggling for cash at the time, but I find mildly amusing that they dropped Saber Interactive right before they landed one of their greatest hits with Space Marines II (and they have KOTOR remake and Avatar The Last Airbender in the pipeline, too).

No, you don't get it. We aren't talking about marginal differences.
KCD is estimated at less than a 100 millions (closer to 50 apparently) while Rebirth is probably up there in the MULTIPLE HUNDREDS.

I imagine they are in extremely rough shape considering no of studios they have and amount of hits they generate.

Saber might want to be more ambitious than what Embracer would allow I guess. There could be any reason.

….

As for KCD2, I can see it doing way higher over time. It could get to 20 million, it needed more hype leading into launch.

Yeah, it's definitely selling nowhere near as well on console as on PC, which is too bad. I'm a pretty hardcore console gamer and I didn't even know about KCD1 until KCD2 was announced. This game will surely have long legs, as no other game is like it, but still, slightly dissapointing. Hopefully Embracer gives Warhorse an even bigger budget for their next game. The sky is the limit for them as a studio

Are you sure about that (Rebirth costing multiple hundreds of millions of dollars)? Source? Japanese development is substantially cheaper than US and Rebirth reused a ton of assets from Remake. They also got it done in 3 years compared to the 6-7 for KCD2.

Personally, I’d be really surprised to see Rebirth’s cost be much more than 2X KCD2, but happy to consider a source that proves otherwise.

They did a great job with it on console. I’m playing on PS5Pro and it runs great. Good experience. Much better menus/inventory management with controller than BG3.

I played the original on PC though and a lot of people weren’t thrilled the experience of KCD1 on console.

A quick google search gives an estimated budget of 200 millions for FF/ Rebirth, while I just looked it up and KCD2 had a budget of roughly 40 millions, which they just declared was recouped in the very first day of sales.

Link (on the Rebirth budget being $200M)?

KCD2 budget being $40-50M isn’t in dispute. It’s amazing what they were able to do with that money. Warhorse should be proud.

I just really doubt Rebirth cost anywhere near $200M given other Japanese games development costs.

Do it mate its fantastic. Rough for the first few hours as it doesn't hold your hand but well worth the effort.

Currently about 40 hours in and quite happy just hanging around the bath house for hours :messenger_winking_tongue: :messenger_sunglasses:

Too bad Daniel Vavra or whatever his name is, is such an asshole. I hate seeing people like that rewarded with success

Just based on how well it is doing on Steam. Nearly 10 days after launch, it still has 190k peaks on Steam. I was hoping KCD2 would sell 3-4mil by this point. It's just not the most console friendly franchise, especially the first one. I wouldn't be surprised if 70% of sales are on PC

I'm probably 20 hours in and still haven't gone to the wedding (early main quest). Great game. So much more of a 'role' playing game than what JRPG's call 'role' playing.
