Enchant Arm Update

He states that, while the final development kits will have slightly higher specification than the beta kits, the system in its current form has about ten times the power of the current generation Xbox. This isn't taking the switch to high definition into account, though. If they were to make a standard definition game for Xbox 360, they'd have more than twenty times the power of the current Xbox, says Takeuchi.

In terms of volume, Takeuchi reveals that fitting everything on a single DVD could be tough.

From seems to be making use of the Xbox 360 hard disk for caching purposes in order to provide, as Takeuchi states, a stress-free, seamless experience. While it's not the case that there won't ever be a "Now Loading" screen in the game, such a screen will be very rare. This, according to Takeuchi, will be true of pretty much all Xbox 360 games, as it's something that Microsoft is taking seriously.

Development on Enchant Arm is at the 40% mark. This, according to Takeuchi, is a typical number for a From Software Tokyo Game Show debut title, meaning From is on its way to launching the game with the Xbox 360.

There are some more interesting tidbits, but you should read the article yourself :)

Not trying to thread hijack, so don't discuss, just take note:

How by not supporting HD Nintendo can possibly produce graphics on-par with 360/PS3 with cheaper/smaller tech? I knew there was a decent performance hit for going HD, but didn't realize it literally halved things.

Anyways...From Software...hmm...hit and miss titles for me.

Certainly not requiring HD will help Nintendo keep up (in some areas) if their system is indeed weaker. I think the main complaint with Nintendo's plan is that they aren't going to offer it as an option.

(Sony hasn't said they will require HD, btw)

Yokohama City is almost too vast, according to Takeuchi, allowing for distant views that will be familiar to players of massively multiplayer Online RPGs, but not to most console game players. The city is also minutely detailed -- From Software was originally considering allowing players to go inside every room in every building.

Hot! And the loading part is hot too!!!

I really hope this game turns out well.

Doesn't this kinda conflict with what everyone's been saying about MS telling developers "not to expect the hard drive to be in at all times"?

If this is true, then great; no loading due to hard drive caching would rock and make X360 games that much better. Hopefully the PS3 games are coded the same with the hard drive (which may not be optional; aka included "value pack" style to force every PS3 unit to have one). If every game on both systems next-gen took advantage of cache, games as a whole would have taken a step forward next-gen.

According to Takeuchi, From Software has just received beta development kits from Microsoft.
So everything we saw from eM so far was running on alpha kit, kinda thought so.

I guess this kills the "HDD cant be used as a cache" BS.

I guess this helps the DVD may be too small for next-gen.

No, I think the CG and pre-renders will only affect the Japanese developers. American and European teams use the engine for cut-scenes and such.

Well no there will be more than just Japanese devs using CG. Look up the new Tom Clancy War game for the X360. They have already showed a CG intro. Again not just devs from Japan will use CG.

Why is that whenever anyone says "dvd might be too small", somebody replies "oh it'll be ok because people won't use fmv next generation!"?

Have you ever looked at the file structure of the dual-layer 5-9gig dvds you guys play? Most of the time fmvs are like <500megs.

FACT. The number one thing that takes up 50%+ of the space on a game disc is .....voice acting!. The reason why most rpgs are 2 dvds or a dual-layer dvd is because the big all feature 6-8 hours+ of high quality sampled voice acting.

Next generation with everyone using HQ 7.1 setups, games are gonna have to use even higher quality audio files. Music and SE will also have to be higher quality. This is what's going to eat up space.

Next-generation games will feature:
-Textures taking up 2x the space as this gen since they will be 2-4x the resolution.
-Audio recorded at even higher quality so it won't sound bad on nice setups.
-Less fmv, though most games will still have an FMV opening movie since next-gen still won't be near current FMV quality.

So yea, I wouldn't expect games to need anywhere near the size of the blue-ray format. But I do think it's pretty apparent that games next-gen will be about 2-3x the size of current games. So if you're average game this gen is around 5-6gigs, next-gen should be about 15gigs on average IMO. Luckily, at worst that just means two dvds for xbox games which is not a big deal. But games will require more space next-gen.

From put little 'visual novel' in flash on eM's site. Yes it's in japanese, but even without understanding you can tell game won't have overly serious tone.

I was really looking forward to this game, but umm, after seeing the screen caps of that "visual novel", let's just say that uh...my interest has waned.

What is this visual novel? Like the stuff SEGA did for PDO? I take it it wont be in the actual game right? It looks like complete crap.

Lol, no it's website only, it's little something for fans (all 3 of them) while they're waiting for the game release.
