Avowed - Anniversary Update Preview

Gay people = woke is idiotic too.

Look at this woke-ass bag of calcium ..

I mean to diffusionx diffusionx 's credit I do believe the purple/blue character is bisexual and her "world" is purple. The gay dude is also blue.

These things really trigger people I guess. I focus on playing the game and killing shit and that has nothing to do with any of that lol

It's literally the PoE 2 art style but in 3D.

This new fascination with labeling colorful things as 'woke' is so weird. Y'all wanna go back to 2005-2008 where everything was a shade of grey?

I guess the closest example I can give is how Fallout changed from 2 to 3, same world, same art but just viewed in a 3D world, might not be as 'complex' in its RPG mechanics but it's far from just being a brawler/action game.
PoE 2 is super dark and gritty dude, exactly how a dark Gothic rpg style should be. What are you talking about? Yeah, there are a few colorful areas and that's fine, but they are consistent ans they make sense with how they are placed. Awoved just seems a mix of everything everywhere without any sort of artistic cohesion.

Pillars of Eternity 2. The same setting as Avowed.

I think you might be mixing up PoE 1 and 2. 2 is basically in isometric visuals what Avowed is, and Avowed isn't all colorful areas either, like you mentioned in your post, it has areas with muted color tones etc. The colors intensify as the fungal infection effecting the world increases.

I think he saw PoE and thought Path of Exile.

I think they were still delusional enough to think they had the capability to make a Skyrim when they put the announcement trailer out. They pivoted away from that plan part way through development after realising they had bitten off way more than they could chew.

God knows where they go from here. It doesn't seem like they're going to scale up to be capable of doing something like that, but their supposedly safe AA 'mild success for 100 years' plan suffered 2/3 failures immediately.

Avoid's art style is significantly gayer (in the traditional sense) than Pillars imo, even Deadfire. Not that they were without colour, but they used it more sparingly. Typically the environments were fairly muted, with magic effects etc. providing the vivid splashes of colour.

For the £35 I paid I'm looking forward to trying this out tbh

Even if it isn't really spoken about well I'm hoping to play at least more than I did tainted grail (runs like horse shit on console)

I was very confused by this post because Pillars of Eternity 2 is actually full of color between the Caribbean / Pacific Islands / Colonial inspiration. Now I understand the "PoE" confusion.

3 out of the 4 regions in Avowed are actually less colorful than PoE 2.

It's good that unoriginal slop announces itself loudly on the cover.
The balls to say shit like this with a Dino Riders pfp. I love it.
Ok this make sense. When someone says PoE 2 I don't think of Pillars of Eternity at all. I was very confused.

I am talking about this.

I think this is one of the reasons people (mainly people who wont look further into the game's setting) have complaints about the game's setting, enemies and characters. There's clearly a lot of background info that explain so much of the story (as its part of the Pillars lore) that exists from the other game; that being said this game was pretty easy to understand and comprehend, and there's a shit ton of "codex" info that goes into further detail if you are remotely interested.

Imo, they would have been better off with a brand new universe- but i get the appeal of having an established setting as solid as the Pillars universe.

From purely a game standpoint my biggest complaints are that world is pretty static in terms of Points of interest and locales. But there is a wide variety of environments and i can appreciate that they are all for the most part quite well curated. I definately went back a few times in some areas to find chests and loot. I enjoyed the "find the secret treasure" thats just a sketch of the location its hidden in- nothing revolutionary but i liked the way it played out.

The combat in this game is hella good. There's so many weapon combinations with the powers to use that, i quite enjoyed re-specing my class at almost every different biome andf every time it felt different. Rocking a wand and pistol and just being an ranged douche raining down lightning or earthquake was hilarious and then shooting them in the face with the pistol was hilarious to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The game is a solid 7/10 and the combat imo is good enough to push it to a 8 or so.

Going by the OT, most who actually played it enjoyed the gameplay. It's a 7 or 8 depending on how much you value having a living interactive world.

For me the combat is probably the best one yet in the genre for first person perspective. Dodging, block and parry, jumping and grabbing ledges, power attacks, special abilities. Everything felt spot-on mechanically and very tight.
Regarding the bolded, does Avowed have that or not?

I'm ok with a static world, but I have obviously failed to understand your sentence on which is actually the case for Avowed.
