They're changing the name from Epic Games Store to Epic Guitar Solo and they needed their advice for the theme tune that plays when you open it. This way it can still be called EGS as well, clever.

I got Super Beat Sports for $10 several years ago. Pretty good game.

That's about it for me and this company's entire history.

A lot of people here don't play or follow Fortnite, so you'll have to forgive the shitpost hot takes.
Oh please. Consolidation is not a good thing in the industry.

Where did I comment on the quality of Fortnite in any capacity?

I still play Rock Band 4 on the regular. I guess this just means the DLC will probably dry up. And the dream of Rock Band 5 is probably dead.

If by any chance we get some new instruments that would be fantastic.
Tell me about it...

This was me, in 2019. Thankfully I still have a working guitar. But I know it's days are probably numbered.

Its insane. I have one working guitar and I am afraid to play with it! Once its gone my game is basically useless.

I think it's possible to understand how this is a good fit for Fortnite and most likely saved Harmonix from bankruptcy but still be sad that this is basically the end of a once beloved developer.

I might've cared if I hadn't moved on to playing an actual guitar.

Speaking of, not too keen on Rocksmith plus...

U WOT M8?

Will they still be supporting Rock Band 4? Will we finally get that PC version of Rock Band 4 they tried to crowdfund years back?

I really need a new Rock Band to come out. The instruments are impossible to find and ultra expensive, and there is a whole generation of kids that probably have not played them because of this.

so rockband on PC..yay....i suppose, even though we all know the true king of guitar games was, is and always will be...guitar hero 3, legends of rock.

Good for Harmonix, majority of the staff that I believe were connected to their "big" games have all moved on as far as I know. They've always felt like this developer that's barely marking it after their peak. This is probably great for them as a company.

EA should have bought them so they could shoot them and put them out of their misery like their other acquisitions.

What i wish this meant: A new Rockband with quality instruments and a way to keep all dlc purchased, with more customization, etc.

The reality of it though...the flood of guitar hero games actively killed that type of music game being unique and popular.

Most of the people responsible for the art and music choices for the first few rockband games are surely gone, as i dont remember the last time i saw full albums of artists or anything cool like that. The art and music seems like modern kid stuff, and that aint me.

It was a blast while it lasted. I was fully committed from the first time i played guitar hero and followed them into rockband, have spent who knows how much on dlc, and really wish there was a chance for it to be like it was.

I also had moved on to Rocksmith, had a blast there too, but this Rocksmith plus seems to be a definite step in the wrong direction, and sadly i dont think ill be following them with it.

Are they gonna make more overrated games like Rock Band?

Can't stand how big Guitar Hero and Rock Band were at the time. One of the most annoying trends I've ever seen in games. Thank god that fad shit died down.

Pretty sure it's the opposite; this likely helps the chance of DLC continuing on.

What does this mean for Rock Band DLC?
Nothing. We'll be continuing on with our existing DLC plans… and there are lots of great tracks coming as we wrap up 2021 and push into next year!

What the fuuuuuuck.

Don't know how to feel about this. Love Harmonix but this is so weird. I hope they get to keep doing what they want to do and maybe get more time and money focused towards Rock Band. Only time will tell but as long as DLC keeps coming every week I suppose it couldn't be too bad.

I'd say that game streaming and "let's play" videos are what killed the genre. You can't monetize Rock Band videos on any platform like Youtube because all of the music is copyrighted.

For me personally, I still think it's a great party game or it's just fun to jam out to my favorite songs - but the landscape of gaming has had a pretty fundamental shift since these games were popular, and I don't think there's really a way to bring them back in any meaningful way on modern systems.

Nah it was definitely the market being flooded with like 3+ guitar hero games per year, and the bulky, expensive peripherals. I myself loved guitar hero and rock band, still play Rock Band to this day and even just bought a flash electronic drum kit to use with my Midi Pro Adapter + Legacy Adapter, but they just put out too much too close together. Didn't help when 2 companies started releasing competing games.

Now they're making music stuff for Fortnite. Ugh.

I could probably sell all my stuff for a fortune haha. I've still got them all - I've got 2 Guitar Hero 2 guitars, 2 Guitar Hero 3 guitars (one with the faceplate signed by all the members of DragonForce!, one unopened in box), 1 Rock Band Guitar, 1 Rock Band 3 Pro Drum Kit, 1 Rock Band 3 Pro Guitar, 1 Guitar Hero Metallica Guitar, 1 Rock Band 4 Drum Kit + Pro Cymbal Kit (both unopened, bought as a backup for the RB3 kit), 1 RB3 Midi Pro Adapter + 1 Rock Band Legacy Adapter (these are both worth a tonne of money now by the looks of it).

Anything for last gen is quite high as they didn't do a ton of runs.

I've seen the Legacy Adapter listed for like AUD$1000 on ebay and the likes lol. I don't know how the hell I managed to snag one, must have just checked the PDP (iirc) site at the exact right time haha

It died before all of that was really the norm. They just way overshot the trajectory of the genre, over-saturated it, and at the same time spent a fortune acquiring licenses for shit like The Beatles that nobody cared about.

Shit was pretty wild really lol

I know the game didn't sell well but c'mon

Hindsight is 20/20 on that one. I told myself I would get one on a sale. Oops

Wow, I didn't realize they were still around.
They put out a new game recently lol

Looked wack as fuck unfortunately. Like a Pauly D simulator.

Yeah that's how I remember it going down. Activision went absolutely ham over a two year period with new releases like Guitar Hero World Tour, GH5, Metallica, Van Halen and a few others. Oh AND they introduced DJ during that time as well. They killed interest in that genre with a quickness.

It was amazing times for sure. Problem is these games take a long time to master and as the games had more tracks included and were released closer together you never felt you got the value out of the previous purchase before the next one came along. Then you had Rockband in there as well doing pretty much the same product. Too many large plastic instruments in a home wasn't wife/girlfriend friendly for sure.

The last title Activision actually made any profit from was Guitar Hero III, after that it was just about how much revenue they were pulling in. Everyone rode the gravy train until the end of the line.

I still have the Rockband box with the drums and guitars in the garage gathering dust, motor oil, spiders, who knows what else. Gamestop just would not trade that stuff no matter how much a begged.
