Epic Games acquires Rock Band maker Harmonix

I still have the Rockband box with the drums and guitars in the garage gathering dust, motor oil, spiders, who knows what else. Gamestop just would not trade that stuff no matter how much a begged.

Makes you wonder where all those millions of guitars are, they can't all have made their way to the landfill. Wii balance boards seem to infest thrift stores for comparison.

During the height the amount of guitars and drum kits that were traded in at my local game store I worked at was insane. We had to stop taking them at many times.

Eventually the failure rate was so high they started giving $5 for guitar and $10 for drums and people still took it.

When they closed for good most of it was thrown out as nobody bought em.

I wouldn't be surprised if a majority ended up in landfills sadly.

At least from the first few RB and GH.

Guitars have an accurate gameplay lifetime of about 18 months before they start having issues. I burned through so many of them now I just have one left that I found in a charity shop for £3 a few years ago. Didn't play it much as I'd moved onto Rockband 4.

The last title Activision actually made any profit from was Guitar Hero III, after that it was just about how much revenue they were pulling in. Everyone rode the gravy train until the end of the line.
Interesting but that doesn't surprise me. GH3 was the last title that still had the magic before we got bombarded by other titles. It was impossible to keep up after that one.
