McCallum spoke about "scheduling conflicts" with Neeson in the Star Wars Insider magazine, IIRC (or it could've been Hyperspace). The "scheduling conflicts" was that Neeson was on a glacier in Iceland filming Batman and couldn't take 30 minutes to pick up a phone and say a couple lines of dialog.

Not asking you to give me excuses, I'm asking you for a link as to where you got your quotes.

AFIAK, Lucas actually wanted Qui-Gon to appear as a ghost and have a conversation with Yoda.

Then I think he cut that down to just a conversation, so that all Liam would have to do is some ADR.

Apparently Liam couldn't even be bothered to do that, although he accepted to do a photo op for the Star Wars Vanity Fair cover.

That just pisses me off. The whole Qui-Gon thing to me is a really important part of the story, not having it there ... the film still works, but it removes a nice of layer of depth to the whole Jedi/Sith relationship, especailly in ESB when Luke asks Yoda about the Dark Side.

Quick correction, and this should have been obvious from the very start, but these pictures can be traced back to the craziest STAR WARS spy on the next, Darth Psychotic, who e-mailed us to let us know where they actually came from. Leave it to DP to break a story like this one...

It wasn't even a ghost. It was just his voice.

I think George would have wanted Liam to show up as a ghost, but then opted to settle just for an ADR dub.

Either way, Neeson is an ass for not doing it.

Lucas should have made sure all actors were under contract in such a way that he could bring any actor back for any of the three movies for say 1-2 days of shooting or ADR work.

The only thing close to that from what I remember is having Natalie commit to three movies right off the bat, and she even read an outline in what happens to Padme in all three movies during Episode I. If only Lucas was a little bit more organized, he would have realized "hey I'm killing off Qui-Gon in Episode I but will be bringing him back in III to have a talk with either Obi Wan or Yoda, I haven't made my mind yet, I'll have him commit to all three like Padme." But I dont know...or he could have done all three so he could have actually recorded the voice for Episode II. I don't know...maybe he did try that and Liam refused. I hear that happens quite a bit sometimes.

From what I heard, Qui-Gon wasn't even in the movie, EP1, until like the last couple of drafts. If Lucas hadn't decided that such a major character wasn't going to be in the first movie until that late in the process then having the fore thought to sign Liem to a pick up deal would have been well beyond him. I still think it's was a stupid idea to try and explain the ghost forms of the Jedi. it needs no more explaination than the other powers the Jedi possess.

Say what you want about Lucas, but you got to give him props for his DVDs. They pack it full of great stuff for us nerds.

Im gonna buy Ep3 on day one, then the full 6 movie boxset (if they include new documentries) and the HD Versions.

They are also re-releasing the Original Trilogy box set on December 6 with the actual poster art as the box art, but without the extras disc. It should also fix the bad ANH disc problem on high-end players.
