Yup, we’re still talking about that Escape From New York remake. Folks have been trying to make this thing for years now, but after all this time, it doesn’t seem like they’ve gotten anywhere closer to actually making it happen. However, if this new rumor turns out to be true, perhaps that could change soon.

There’s a reporting floating around out there claiming that even though there’s still no director attached, Silver Pictures and StudioCanal are making moves and have their eye on Charlie Hunnam, Jon Bernthal and Dan Stevens to portray the new Snake Plissken. Hit the jump for more on the Escape From New York remake.

Hunnam is apparently the top choice, though with potential commitments to Guy Ritchie's King Arthur saga and Pacific Rim 2 scheduling might be an issue.

Also noteworthy is how the film will reportedly focus on a team element and elevate the roles of the supporting players.

Plissken’s team consists of Mina, a warzone journalist framed for murder and living in the shadows of New York as a scavenger; Cabbie, a schizophrenic travel guide who serves as comic relief; Gareth, the last surviving member of the President’s security detail who harbors a dangerous secret; and The Brain, Plissken’s former partner-in-crime who left him to die after a botched robbery.

Escape from New York is one of my favorite action movies, so if it is indeed remade I hope they can find a way to do justice to the original but also put an interesting spin on it.

I'll allow it. Escape from NY was a pretty damn cheesy flick so a re-make really could improve upon it.

Generally, I hate remakes. But if the original is flawed and the concept really could be done better . . . then go for it.

Edit: Don't make a re-make of Escape from LA . . . that was hopelessly bad.

After 5 minutes of thought I've come up with Norman Reedus as the only guy who can save this idea of a remake.

... huh and that wasn't even because of the connection to Shane.

This time for their hellish dystopian police state, they can film in North St Louis instead of East.

Kurt Russell is a hard act to follow.

I mean, he's somehow the one of the baddest of badasses to ever appear on a movie screen - and yet, with his luscious locks of hair and piercing baby blues, he's also a goddamn beautiful man.

The Russ is one of a kind, man. One of a kind.

Why the fuck are studios and directors now pining to cast Jax from SoA in their movies?

The guy is just not good, is he really nice and relaxed to be around on set like Keanu?

Yeah..no Kurt Russell is the only Snake Plissken. Same thing they did again with Total Recall remake and Robocop not gonna work.

Am I the only one that enjoys the theme song, and ending of L.A., more than New York? Also the playing Basketball to save your life scene surprisingly works better than the wrestling death match from New York.
