ETA on PSP Price drop?

Next year?

The hardware is still selling well month over month.

I'd wager a price drop around next spring. I guess it depends on how the hardware keeps on selling. If the hardware sales start tanking in July and August then Sony will be more proactive to release a $199 core system sooner than later.

They will get away with going through this Christmas at the current price. As its not even out in Europe yet, there won't be one here for a very long time.

The price is reasonable. I'm not saying its not a lot, or that it might prohibit an impulse sale for some people, but for what you pay you get a great piece of machinery.

I remember people expecting far worse price tags up until the price announcements. Far worse.

The bundle will likely be dropped this fall, with a possible system drop sometime in 2006.

The priced drop during the holidays would help take away sales from the 360.

Hyping the PS3 to hell and back can do that, and they don't lose money that way.

I'll get my PSP once their is a new revised version of the hardware. a new model #
I don't mean a 'PSP SP' but simply a revision, like with the original PS1s and PS2s
(I dont mean PSOne or Slim PS2 either)....

This is a wise man here.

I'm really (REALLY) tempted to grab one, what with my KILLER APP Namco Museum coming out and all, but early Sony hardware models...

Of course, I'm banking on the homebrew community to crack future BIOSes. I hope I'm right :(

I'm not going to speculate on when...but this year makes sense. The way I see it is if they drop before end of year, they lose money/hopefully soften X360 launch. If they drop it next year (around or before PS3 launch), then they are pitting the PSP against the PS3 for peoples cash. If they don't drop it...who would buy a PSP @ $250 over PS3 @$300-400?
No situation is ideal...

It'll drop before the PS3 is out. In fact, I can see Sony having a 3 tier pricing plan for the PS2, PSP, and PS3 once it is out. I don't expect the PS3 out until next fall. PSP drops in price next spring. My guessing, at least.

PS2 - $99
PSP - $199
PS3 - $299

You have your introductory line, midline, and topline pricing for gamers.

Doesn't sony already bleed money on each psp sale? With the psp selling relatively well in the US, I don't see a price drop happening for quite awhile.

They mentioned that they'd start profiting (off the psp anyways) before the summer.

Dropping the price of the PS2 would do the same thing and still make them a boatload of money from the PSP's first Christmas in the US.
