Hey mates!

New Yorker gonna head over here soon I just had some quick questions!

Anywhere you guys eat as locals?

Is the pocketing thing a real big problem in the tours it areas as I'm lead to believe and what do you guys suggest?

Anywhere in England I can get a photo with the red guards and funny hats!?

Will you judge me if I did that lame holding the tower photo with the Leaning tower?

Any must try foods over there!?

Thanks guys :)

Birmingham.

London, Italy and France is kinda a big area for restaurant recs?

The a guards are at Buckingham Palace. So you'll have to go to Buckingham Palace.

I wouldn't have said pickpocketing was any more common in London than it is in New York. But having your wallet stolen on holiday is a massive pain, so paranoia is better than trying to sort it afterwards.

How long are you going to be here? If you stick to the main cities, your experience should be (un)surprisingly cosmopolitan and multicultural. As far as tourist traps go, they're more or less the same as everywhere else, so just be aware of your possessions when in crowded areas.

New York isn't too bad in all honesty with that Times Square is flooded with police.

I've been reading it's bad bad there!

September is the best month because you still have Summer like weather minus the August tourists. The month of August is always to be avoided.

The food scene in Paris is out of this world. I still have dreams of all the delicious meals I had when I was there. Here are my fav spots from my last trip to Paris:

Breakfast:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-crêperie-de-josselin-paris
- Delicious buckwheat crepes, amazing house cider.
- Place gets crowded af. Go early when they open.

Lunch:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-maison-paris-2
- Charming spot. Works as a dinner venue as well. Get the duck breast w/ potatoes al gratin. Sooo delicious.
- Place is usually pretty packed, but I've been able to get a table at lunch here the last 2 times I was in Paris.

Dinner:
https://www.yelp.com/biz/les-papilles-paris
- Great wine selection, 4 course menu that changes daily.
- May need a reservation

There are soooo many amazing food spots in Paris. Just stay away from the ones that are obvious tourist traps and you'll have a good time.

EDIT: I'm assuming Paris is among your stops in France.

I went this June, and I agree 100 percent. I heard Italy is amazing too.

OP: Go to Berthillon for ice cream.

I love your suggestions and just saved all of this thank you so much

There's a place in Covent Garden (west London) called the Hawksmoor and its fantastic. That whole area it's in is very 'London' in a good way.

Make sure you sample the homemade salted caramel Rolos.

Thanks marked it down on my list I also gotta get a phone booth photo as well as a glorious photo in front of Big Ben!

Why do you say that friend - I also want to see the gondolas and the statue of David :0 the coliseum!

Pisa is ok. I mean, the view on top of the tower is beautiful. If you're staying in Florence for an extended period of time (one of my fav cities in Italy) then a quick day trip to Pisa is worth it. But it's mainly tourists, keep that in mind.

Honestly, Venice is like the Disney World of Italy. I wouldn't go out of my way to go there but if you're on that side of Italy, it's worth checking out for a day but no more than that.

Rome is awesome, Florence is fantastic. Definitely check out one of the coastal cities too.

Why? It's totally worth a day trip.
Very touristy though is the only problem.

I'm assuming that's not always such a bad thing for instants I had a tourist day in New York where we went to the Statue of Liberty Time Square, Central Park Walk the Brooklyn Bridge I just saw the lion King on Broadway and it was honestly a memorable day when you live in the cities that have high tourism sometimes you never participate and you miss out

Your description of your trip here sounds like the plot of Eurotrip or a bad episode of friends.

Birmingham.

Yes, come to Birmingham.

Also I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend a little English bistro called Aberdeen Angus Steak house, the food is to die for.

They guys in the funny hats are the Queens Guard, show them respect they are Soldiers of the British Army and probably wont take to kindly to getting called 'the guys in the funny hats'.

I'm just messing, how long are you in each country/city for? you're probs only going to scratch the surface of each place.

Dont go to a steak house, but do try proper fish and chips in London, I haven't been in years and only as a tourist myself, book a ticket on the Eye for some good views across the river

Oh I have the uttermost respect for any military person and as such just want to get a nice photo with them as I'm so proud of being next to such icons!

Thanks for your advice too I have a whole notepad of things I'm jotting down and you guys are so helpful it makes me so proud to be a member here that we can all share things like this.

I'm still thinking if we should do a cruise or more of a backpacking trip...Europe just seems like such a majestic and clean place compared to my lovely New York City lol

London can be dirty in places, thats part of the charm! If you are hitting cities I definitely recommend backpacking, plenty of Hostels in all the big cities. Getting round the interior of Europe is very easy by train, you'll be able to get to all the major cities with ease.

I'd probs go from London to Paris for a few days then catch a train on to Brussels and its then an easy connection over to Amsterdam which is beautiful at any time of the year. You can't come to Europe without hitting up the 'Dam.
