In its ongoing quest to ‘catch ‘em all’ ‘Pokemon Ranger’ defeats last week’s All Formats Champion ‘TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’, presenting Nintendo with their first All Formats No1 since ‘Pokemon Ruby’ on GBA just under 4 years ago.

‘Pokemon Ranger’ becomes the 6th Pokemon title to reach the top of the All Formats Chart in the past 10 years, while also being the first Pokemon title on DS to reach No1 in the DS chart. Ubisoft’s ‘TMNT’ slips one place to No2, almost losing out to ‘Wii Play’, which rises from No24 to No4 thanks to strong availability. It is another good week for Nintendo’s handheld – there are 7 DS exclusive games featuring in the All Formats Top 40 with ‘Harvest Moon DS’ from Rising Star Games storming into 4th place after not making the Top 40 when it was released last week. Other DS exclusives making their first All Formats Top 40 appearances are Nintendo’s ‘Hotel Dusk: Room 215’ at No22 in its second week, while ‘All-Time Classics’ re-enters at No21 and 505 Games’ ‘Cooking Mama’ gets its first taste of All Formats Chart success at No35. Two more PS3 games are launched this week, pushing the total number of PS3 games to 25. Both games are ports – Vivendi’s ‘F.E.A.R’ debuts at No3 in the PS3 Chart (No17 All Formats) behind ‘Motorstorm’ and ‘Resistance’, while the postponed ‘The Godfather’ from EA begins life in the PS3 Chart at No10. In a week low on the ground for new releases, the only individual format chart to witness a change at the top is Xbox 360 with ‘Crackdown’ up from No2 to No1.

Big jump for Harvest Moon DS considering it was non-existent last week.

Not surprised though, it has been heavily promoted in stores here in Bolton (for whatever reason... I honestly wouldn't have expected it), so I expected a sales spike.

Oh ok. I see Rainbow Six 3, Splinter Cell, and Prince of Persia on there also. I thought I was in the Twilight Zone.

Rather disappointing for Hotel Dusk. No marketing as in America.

Actually, you couldn't be further from the truth.

Hotel Dusk has been marketed on the TV with frequent ads here in the UK. But, when all said and done, and no matter what Nintendo want you to think, and no matter how many Brain Trainings have been sold, the vast majority of DS gamers are young kids who would rather have Pokemon.

Adults who bought a DS many have bought one for Brain Training, but more than likely, have since given it to their kids or its gone on ebay.

Yes, here at GAF we adults love DS, but you only have to look at the games that are selling on the DS outside of Brain Traning to understand who the core audience really is.

Just asking:

is it normal that just after a couple of weeks since PS3's PAL launch, nintendo owns at least 6 spots from the UK top ten? I would've thought that PS3' games would stay longer on the highers spots.

you expect D/P to debut at a higher position than #1 or something?! That would be impressive.

That's all fine, and there might be some truth in there. But Hotel Dusk likely wouldn't have performed amazingly well on any other video game system, period. It's just a genre that isn't exactly popular, I'm actually surprised it charted.

The fact that Hotel Dusk is even on that list makes me happy, since it's a VERY niche game which is only on one system (Compared to a lot of others on that list, which are multi-platform). I'm sure the developers are happy with its performance.

Well, if PS3 would have been supply constrained at launch, and they'd have then released more consoles each week, we'd have seen them stay at the higher spots, but basically an insane amount of copies of Motorstorm and Resistance were sold on day one, so it was inevitable that this would happen.

But we're going over old ground here. There are two problems with the PS3 right now, as everyone knows, price + games. The price is bound to drop at some point, the games are bound to come out at some point. And when that happens, it'll gain major steam.

That's pretty insane. I don't think a DS handheld (let alone a console) has dominated the charts before like this. It's almost reaching Japan levels.

Damn I hate it we don't get decent numbers from the European region. Would be great to create the overall picture of wordwide sales.

Isn't this Ranger's second week? I just didn't think it would stay that high even two weeks. I want to see how long D/P stay up there.

I wonder how many of those Tiger Woods 2007 are for wii, considering the numbers the title made in NA last month

Don't bet against it - the teen girl must have game atm is cooking mama (as I pointed out in last weeks thread it is selling out in all shops!)

Poke Ranger came in at 2 so can easily be beater by D&P which will debut at 1.

Highest week for Wii Play since launch I think - mostly casual Wii sales though as other software hasn't budged much.

Thus ends our 3 weeks of easter chart action - we can go back to sleep now until the summer :) Or at least normally we could - god of war II, and some ACTUAL WII GAMES are comming out soon.

Massive DS hardware sales this week - and Kudos to Nintendo the advertising has been accross loads of titles not just the pokermom one.

Edit: Oh and Final Fantasy V Advance entered the GBA chart at 13 - 4 places lower than TROLLS: hair affair... :lol While it will rise next week (as most 2nd week Nintendo handheld games do) it's unlikely to be a massive hit.

Daft question - have you seen a cooking mama one? We're convinced that it must be being pushed somewhere.

Hotel dusk is a bit low but hey its there,

Full Price chart number 12 for a story based adventure game is quite frankly unheard of - Another Code's sales were practically non existant over here. The adverts get the idea of the game over amazingly well.

Heck I also saw a Wii advert this week and know that stores got more of the little white boxes in this week. I see another 20,000 week in the hardware easily with Wii Play's results.

I still struggle to comprehend that we may have sold more Wii in Europe last week than Japan..!

Pokemon Ranger FTW!!
i posted some news back on Friday about Wii's being back in stock and as an upshot expect it to do well this week.
And it did.
I reckon Wii hardware this week is quite high too.

Sorry I was looking at the all price chart, your right it is an increadible achievement.

I saw the advert a couple of times during decent times of the day and as you say very well put together.

It kind of bugs me to know that people are receptive to somthing like hotel Dusk but both Phoenix Wrights bombed when it could be argued that they are better games and have been advertised as well.

Ironically I think the games art style makes it look more juvenile than it actually is. I really expected PW:2 to take off but this week was the biggest week of DS action since the Lite launch and it's not even in the top 20.

Loving the fact that 42 classics has gone back into the top 40 - that has to be one of the most underrated titles for the system. Having played so many bad portable gaming compilations this is just pure sweetness.

The Oracle of play.com has Buzz, Singstar, Dancing Stage AND GoWII comming out next Friday though so expect the PS2/3 to take a big bite out of the DS next week (although DS has Yugioh...).

Just asking:

is it normal that just after a couple of weeks since PS3's PAL launch, nintendo owns at least 6 spots from the UK top ten? I would've thought that PS3' games would stay longer on the highers spots.

except for Wii Play, which comes with "free controller" ;-), PS3 games, once again, outsell Wii games :), at least ones in Top 40.

two best selling games for the systems - Motorstorm moved back to #10 full price chart... while Sonic went up to #25...

Of course, I am sure that #10 sold only 15 copies more than #25...

I think retail will get the idea now after not ordering sufficient Hotel Dusk copies at first...I've been in four different stores around Manchester and they're only just getting decent numbers of the game in. Nintendo has been giving this a massive push just as fans requested (see, Nintendo DOES listen folks! ;) ) and it's paying off.

Anyway, I know this Harvest Moon might not quite deserve the sales it's getting, but it'll set things up nicely for Magical Melody in a few months when it comes out branded as a Wii game. If a DS game over two years old can do this well, RSG must be rubbing its hands over the prospect of MM disguised as a Wii game!

With the performance of Pokémon Ranger, it bodes well for Square Enix and its 4th May release of FFIII DS. Could S-E get its first DS No.1? After Nintendo's handling of Children of Mana (and the GBA FF games), S-E certainly can't do any worse. To see Trollz enter higher than FFV is a sin...really is. FFIV last year only peaked at something like No.10 on the GBA Top 20 as well. I don't hold much hope for FFV, since GAME in Manchester had no stock in on Friday last week and GameStation only had two tucked away in a dark corner.
