EVE Online |OT| of Internet Spaceships

Summer expansion info posted then taken down shortly thereafter (went up too early/leaked I guess):

8b701d35-9a59-4934-9fyklv1.png

Some pretty enticing things in there.

And I really should maintain the OP a bit. Was last edited in 2015, lol. Maybe I'll get around to it this weekend.

Jumped back into the game thanks to the discount on subscriptions. Feels good to be playing EVE again. Left my wormhole corp because my new job made it really difficult to stay up long enough for everyone to get on and am shopping around for a new one.

In the mean time I decided to try out incursions! I'm having fun with them actually, never had any use for my Logi V in my old corp and I love support classes in general so it feels good playing a healing class in eve finally.

Despite my still-remaining saltiness about falling for a scam earlier this year (besides being busy with WoW and other things in life):

This thread about the latest heist got me talking about EVE again.

Next major release is October 24th, which is incidentally the day Destiny 2 releases on PC (so MAYBE not a good look.)

But I might hop back into the game, maybe consider seeing what I could stir up for a GAF group/corp around that time. Winter to me, is usually EVE season, as opposed to the summer months.

If I did start something, I'm leaning wormholes, as null-sec tends to be far too mapped out by existing power blocs (unless you want to be a renter/pet entity). Low-sec doesn't have much appeal in terms of what you can do(unless there's upcoming changes I'm unaware of), and high-sec is simply too low-risk/low-reward to make it worth staying there for long (at least exclusively.)

Caved and bought an EVE Online Premium Edition key on sale off Humble Bundle. Won't redeem it just yet, but I have it for whenever I inevitably return. You can only apply one copy to an account, but the value is damn high when it's on sale like it is right now. Some 3.5bil ISK worth of value for roughly $22-$25. If I had even more cash to spare, I might've gotten two copies, with the second going to my alt account.

Speaking of, that's part of the reason I don't play EVE as much: the eventual need for at least one alt account. Costs you know, some ~$30 a month unless you're PLEXing one or both accounts, which requires not insignificant time investment and/or starting capital. As opposed to WoW where I've been able to play for "free" via WoW Tokens for some 2 years or so now, mostly coasting off gold I already had. Though my wealth has been dwindling in WoW lately: might need to put in a bit more effort there if I can to replenish my gold supply.

I get the itch here and now. But i fear ive been too long gone to relearn the essentials without losing a massive and substantial amount of isk capital in the process that would make me bitter

Huh, that Premium thing is pretty cool. Will grab one for myself when I get off work.

Edit : Hah, I'll get 10% off on the discount too since I sub to Humble monthly. Perfect.

I'd love to have a Sabre/PI/Industry/Hauling alt since I love the idea of building/producing things but can't justify using that training time on my main so I'm definitely starting to feel that urge for an alt rising as I play but yeah, the expense factor has always been holding me back. I wouldn't say my experience up until this point (20m SP) has ever made me feel that I needed an alt but I can definitely see the benefits that would come with having them. When significant parts of the game are gate locked between a certain level of SP investment it can be hard to feel like you're getting exposed to all aspects of EVE on a single character.

I've popped in between bouts of EVE every few years and have never felt overwhelmed with the things they've added. Short of the occasional new ship class (Jump Destroyers probably the most game changing in terms of how PvP plays itself out I think) a lot of what they've been doing are quality of life stuff / improvements on the basic formula for things that already exist (Starbases -> Citadels / Other Upwell Structures) as well as being better at highlighting systems that already exist in-game (new agency UI options coming in the next update)

I feel like despite all that they've added over the years ... EVE is EVE, and the game on a fundamental level isn't terribly different from when I started poking my head in the game back in 09.

Yup! I subscribe to the monthly too (most of the time), so getting an extra 10% off just sweetened the deal.

Might patch my client and dick around as alpha status this weekend for a bit, but I've also got Stellaris, Endless Space 2, and/or Gal Civ 3 on the table to feed the space itch, among numerous other games.

Said "fuck it" and bought another Premium Edition key off Humble to use on my alt account.

Figured since I'd want it/will use it eventually, it's worth the price of entry. $22.49 for 1 month of game time + items (500 PLEX and the MCT Cert mainly) that can be liquidated for some 3.5bil ISK, which you can either use to fund some spaceship adventures, or flip into 2 months more game. Just a little more than half-price of spending ~$38 for a 3 month sub as is normally offered, assuming no other sale.

------------------------------------
Besides that though:
------------------------------------

Been reading up a bit on the updates that have rolled out in the past 6 months. Some good stuff in there:

-T3 cruiser rebalance in July (relevant to me since I can fly at least 3 of them with near perfect skills last I recall.)

-Project Discovery: exoplanet edition (Think this stuff is fascinating, incorporating scientific research into a game.)

-Various in-game events that have rewards (these weren't a thing even just a couple years ago, so it's nice to see some more PvE-centric content [with the opportunity to PvP], even if the more static PvE activities [e.g. missions] are in desperate need of an overhaul).

-Upcoming Moon mining overhaul with the October 24 release (should really shake things up in New Eden for awhile as entities scramble for control of the most profitable moons, since they're being randomly reseeded. Not to mention potential conflicts that can and will occur during actual mining operations!)

The Moon mining changes in particular seem likely to cause more upheaval than the game has had in years.

Excited to dive back in maybe closer to that October 24 release date. Been slowly losing some interest in WoW outside of logging in for raids: might lapse that game for awhile, but I'm not sure.

So I came back to the game after a 3 year hiatus. I was always a hi-sec bluebie, mostly solo, 20M sp. Character was missiles and PvE focused so I decided to get some mining skills on the side since I didn't need more skills to shoot rats to death. Then CCP announced Resource Wars so I decided to turn to an Orca so I ended up working on that for the past 2 weeks or so.

Another 10 days or so and I'll be in a pretty good spot with it so I might jump into a corp to have some fun with rocks when the patch hits.

EVE-GAF!

I'm going to make a Discord server within the next couple days for NeoGAF EVE players to hang about in. Perhaps a better format than me just ranting about here most of the time. (I might make my own personal rant/blog channel there, hah!)

This will also sort of serve as a trial run for a potential new GAF corp, as I plan to try and program/implement bots to do various EVE-related things, like corp roles syncing to user permissions in the Discord channel, potentially having killboards posted automatically, etc.

It'll also give me a chance to practice simply making roles/permissions/etc. in Discord to maintain security if using it as a hub for corp communication.

In conjunction with this, I will likely update the OP, and make a new thread in gaming about the Lifeblood expansion release on October 24 as we draw closer to that date. (Though we may get drowned out by Destiny 2 PC news).

I'll let you all know when I've setup what I want, and likely either put the invite link in email quotes or have you PM me for it. The next age of EVE-GAF starts soon™!

Not sure there's much Eve GAF left, haha.

Well we'll see. If it's a bust, it's a bust., can't really help that .

But either way I'll get to practice some programming skills on a focused project I'm interested in, which could be more universally applicable later on.

Even if a GAF community doesn't get off the ground, there might be potential to monetize my tools (either via ISK or a Patreon setup) or more privately utilize them in whatever other corp I might end up in if I stick with EVE.

I don't think exploring Jove things (Jove Observatory?) in a Coercer, presumably at low skills, is advisable.
The Coercer is good against frigates but little else. And Drifters ain't no frigates.

BTW, do read about stuff on EVE Uni Wiki, pretty much a must for any new EVE player.

I am more or less just jumping around High Security zone looking for Sansha lol.

I do now know that i should avoid Forsaken Sansha at all cost lol. They can kill me in on swoop.^_^

High Security, isn't.

I remember very well meeting far tougher enemies than i expected in high sec. Hell, some of the... noob quests are far tougher than one expects unless you know what to do.

Actually very funny, this, in EVE. Ain't no noob zone like one might expect based on other MMOs.

By the way, have you done The Blood-Stained Stars already? https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/The_Blood-Stained_Stars
Good mission arc for newbies.

Yeah. I just check on that Forsaken Sansha pirate.....it need a fleet lol. Wut is that doing in High Security area lol.

I haven't done that quest here as i am afraid losing my ship here. Is that difficult?

The joke is that high security just means CONCORD will kill players who attack you. It doesn't actually tell much about the quality of NPCs in the area though as a general rule, the lower the security rating, the harder the pirates. But do not take this as a guarantee. High sec has pockets of difficult pirates.

As for ships, you will lose your ship eventually. Don't sweat it. The primary rule of EVE is "Never fly what you can't afford to replace". Keep your ship insured too. Fly a combat frigate rather than a dessy if you're afraid of losing it, frigates are cheaper. (Note that dessies offer greater firepower but they're also far more vulnerable to damage while not being that tough, compared to frigates, they're very much specialist frigate killer ships.)

The Blood-Stained Stars arc is mostly pretty easy, a lot of flying back and forth. It is worth doing because it teaches some things and has reasonable monetary rewards. The final boss is a tad difficult though, especially if you aren't adept at flying your ship.

It sounds like you got caught up in an Incursion site or two, which is a high-end group PvE activity (essentially the equivalent of raids in World of Warcraft or other games). They spawn semi-randomly all across space, and usually there's 2-3 active in high security space at any given time.

Anyway, the Sisters of EVE mission arc isn't that hard, it can be done mostly in a frigate, with potentially the last few missions being a bit better done in a destroyer.

If you haven't completed the main tutorial yet though, I would recommend doing that first. I'd also finish all the career agent missions to get a basic feel for the kinds of things you can do in EVE.

One other thing to think about in EVE is that your ship isn't your character, it's more akin to ammo or equipment in any other setting. You'll lose it eventually, and that's perfectly fine - it's disposable.

----------

Otherwise, been busier than I expected the past week, I'll get the discord server up that I promised today or tomorrow probably. Will collect some player resources in there, as well as likely update my OP here with stuff. No guarantees on that timeframe though, as I have some schoolwork to do and a job application I want to get out today.

Well, i am going to enjoy going around first lol. Then i will go do the quest.^_^

Have question though. Can u give suggestion on my Destroyer here? I am not sure if it is good or not lol.

High
8x Dual Light Beam Laser with XRAY gem.

Mid
1MN Afterburner
Small Cap Battery 1

Low
Damage Control 1
Small Armor Repairer 1

Rig
Small Ancillary Current Router 1
Small Capacitor Control Circuit 1

Is that a wrong build and i need to refit something inside?

If you can, you might want to add a stasis web. Makes killing frigates a lot easier. You probably need to sacrifice the cap battery for it.

And you may want to carry several laser crystals to adjust for range on the fly. Multifreq for close combat, Radio when you need distance. But this is not absolutely necessary.

Otherwise, looks like a reasonable configuration but i can't say i'm expert. Been a while since i've played, and i fly Caldari anyway (because missiles need no thinking whatsoever lol).

If i take away that battery, won't i risk losing my capacitor running low during the battle lol.
As currently i have been draining capacitor quite fast to empty tank here.

I also looking for Heat Sink 1 actually but there is not a single one that is one with proper pricing lol.

You need more cap skills, and laser skills. You can never have enough. Controlled Bursts is pretty important for Amarr.

Consider opting for a laser crystal that reduces cap use a lot (can't recall which ones are best for low cap). EDIT Looks like Standard used least cap.

Consider using lasers that need less capacitor if possible. Or maybe pulse lasers, can't recall which laser type requires more cap in general. Pulses are more powerful though, beams have more range.

With stasis web, you kill enemies faster, so you don't need to use so much cap for killing enemies.

Remember you don't need to use armor repper constantly, only when you need it. If you fly correctly, you don't get hit much, and that saves considerable amount of cap.

Afterburner is not needed constantly either, though this depends on relative position/direction and whether you need speed to avoid enemy fire.

EDIT After some reading... you may want to redo your ship loadout. Use pulse lasers, specifically Dual Light Pulser Laser. Much easier on the cap. Since you will be fighting at shorter range, you will want to use a stasis web to snare enemies. You will be killing enemies faster with pulse lasers too, as they're more powerful. EDIT Up to Small Focused Pulse Lasers once your skills are better and your fitting skills are better.

Pulse laser huh. But my destroyer is sooo slow though. If i use that, won't i get eaten alive first before even hitting the foes?O_O

Edit: Also question on standing here guys. My standing with Sansha Nation have been like around, -4.28 right now. Am i screwed?

Woorloog

Banned
Not really, provided you aren't taking on something too tough for your skills. Dessies have optimal range bonus, meaning pulses have quite reasonable range. With a stasis web, your enemy is a sitting duck and your pulses will destroy it fast. Pulses have good tracking so you can maintain high angular velocity and hit your targets while the enemy may have problems.

Also, review https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Turret_mechanics

At least, i'd favor close combat. But it looks like EVE Uni's basic fitting (https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Coercer/Fittings ) for the Coercer is very much like what you got (but with Standard crystals), though without active tank.

Depends if you want/need Sansha faction store. You probably don't need that, and so low standing with a rat faction is not an issue. It can be raised later on, i think.

Guys anyone had useless Coercer there? I am going to buy from u guys there if possible.

I would rather give rhe muney to GAF member rather than some unknown lol.

Still working on setting things up, but here we go with the Discord server (quote to see link):

Want to get RSS news feeds and such going soon, but I'm getting sleepy tonight.

And while this method of invite distribution is probably secure enough...please PM (on NeoGAF) your Discord name when you join the server, so I can confirm your identity and assign you a role with (slightly) greater permissions. (I live in US EST if I don't get back to you until sometime tomorrow).

Deciding on how I want to sort that out still. Not that it needs to have a super defined hierarchy, since this is more for general EVE talk than a serious setup for an in-game corporation.

Anyway, yeah! The New Eden channel is for general talk. Please keep most conversations there for now, while I finish organizing things.

And I started to work on updating the OP here, mainly just changed the splash image so far. Will do some more tomorrow or Sunday I think.

I'm not currently actively playing but what is your character name and how much ISK do you have? I'll send you some from one of my characters.

Also EVE is all about being in corps/alliances big or small that do things, popular ones are Brave Newbies, Pandemic Horde, and Karma Fleet, they all have websites or their in-game channel that can get you started in joining them or contact one of their recruiters where their recruiters are. Then get on their comms, they teach a lot of players by getting them into action like fleet engagements and you get free ships and stuff if you're new to the game.

I would recommend Brave Newbies or Karma Fleet.

I'm honestly only interested in potential news about Project Nova.

Resource wars, moons, and the new refineries do nothing for me in wormhole space. Still watching the keynote tho.

Oh look, moon mining in wormholes and high-sec! :O

(just announced in keynote as coming as one of the next steps for structures)

They'll provide enhanced minerals though, not moon-goo.
