Even more Virtua Fighter 5 screens

I thought the idea of games though were to be fun. I like realism but not at the expense of the enjoyment level that background interactivity allows. To each his own though.

Elements of realism can add to the fun. Knocking a guy out of a ring is interactivity and it directly influences strategy. Knocking him through a window and then watching your character jump down after him is cool, but it's a movie.

Seriously, if that's bad art, I welcome it.

Hot!

I've always enjoyed VF gameplay and I'm sure this one will be #1 in that department. That's all that matters..

That being said, I don't get what everybody's gushing about on these graphics. Aside from the clothes and cloth textures, I don't see anything spectacular. Self-shadowing is great but it won't be noticed by 99% of players. Frankly, many of these pics look like two 6" action figures duking it out due to the "plastic factor". At least we're finally approaching that "Toy Story in Real Time" level.

Again, I'm not knocking the game, I will buy it hands down regardless of graphics but I just don't find these shots hugely impressive. I don't know what kind of deals have been made but I would expect to see easy 100% conversions to both PS3 and 360 unless money hats have been passed around.

The game probally looks stunning in motion , some screenshots look really good but others make it look like plastic human revenge. I still think doa4's backgrounds have the edge over this BUT virtua fighter 5 seems to be following VF4's lead and as such they don't need the huge enviroment , just a pretty looking background for a square arena, so the backgrounds are what I'd call adequete.

You still interact with the backgrounds

Only they are OMG square shaped

Maybe if they were trapazoids...no...CIRCLES!!! Yes, that will instantly add FUN to the games...even better...add a RHINO that you can bash opponents against over and over and over again before knocking them down a flight of stairs and riding atop of them like a surfboard!!!

:lol The lack of interactivity comment makes no sense considering some of VF4's stages had fully enclosed rings, and some of the VF5 pics on this very page show this as well. Based on Reno's report a few weeks ago (which obviously was ignored by a lot of people who think VF5 will offer nothing new), there's a couple stages with low walls that you can use to combo a person over.

And the visuals look fine to me...I think the self shadowing and lighting will become very apparant when it starts moving. Hell VF has never been a great screenshot game with the exception of VF3, and that's only because that game was so far ahead of the curve even the biggest Sega haters had to bow down and recognize. VF2 looked miles better moving then it did in pics. I suspect VF5 is the same way...it certainly appears to be that way based on the descriptions I've read from it's location tests.

More I see of this game, more I realize it really isnt that different compared to VF4... not to mention DOA 4 wich looks leagues better. I am very dissapointed. Also the plastic/clay look is by far more overdone than in VF4 and makes the dolls in DOA 4 look like humans in comparison.

*cough*

An enormously barren environment shot taken off a debug...vs. a small gameplay shot with actual fighters on screen.

Right...

Ahh, hell naw...

*starts taking off jewelry and earings*

I really wish they went back to the uneven grounds in VF3, that game was great, you have to recalcuate distance and striking points depend on if you were on high ground or low ground. Some combos would not work due to the traveling nature of some combos interacting with bumps, so you have to constantly readjust to the environment to gain the upper hand. This forces you to break out of the same floating combo routine and use the proper moves for the proper environment, instead of blinding comboing after a float. Cetain moves will travel further down a slope than up a slope, so you really needed to understand the character and how they throw their weight on executing moves. That was truely a thinking man's game. To me, the uneven grounds, added an enourmous sense of variety at the expense of adding a higher level of complexity to the game. I would assume this made the game much harder to learn for the general public and so they simplified it in VF4. Its a damn shame really.

Yep,the skin looks to much like rubber.

Yea I am definitely looking forward to seeing this pop up in Arcades.

Unfortunately I really suck at the series, and the Japanese guys who play it are just downright crazy.

After seeing House of the Dead 4 I know this is going to look good when it is on the HD screen. All the people complaining about the screenshots...it will look great in motion. I can guarantee that.

Just wait till you see VF5 in person. It really looks incredible.

The wait for this game is f'kn killing me. VF is far and away my favorite fighting series and I can't wait to get my hands on 5. Media so far looks great too... I want this at home, NOW!

Anyone know if this is still supposed to be the last VF?

Strongly doubt it. I remember when I spoken to Mr Yutaka many moons ago he said that he wanted to make VF up to VF5 (I also remember he saying the same thing in "Official Sega Magazine"), but that was many moons ago, VF is done by a different team now and becoming more popular by each passing day.

The new shots still look good - it's especially impressive how "ugly and sweaty" Jeff's hairy arms look, as well, if we're going for realism that's what such a man would look like.

But they still seem to be abusing the shiny oil shaders to make up for the fundamental character models being relatively last gen (complete with textures in place of actual surface detail and clothing, and it seems no normal mapping at all). For example, look at Kage's fingers in one of the new shots - what, now ninjas dip their hands in oil before fighting?

Of course, what folks have to realize is that at the level of quality we're getting to this gen, doing -realistic- human skin is still a very tough thing to do. It's a really hard substance to mimic the appearance of.

If DoA4 had the self-shadowing everybody lusts for, but without the Vasoline Shading VF5 is using, I think it'd blow VF5 away. Especially with the geometry that the DoA4 models generally employ, and costume detailing.

On the other hand, potential seems great for VF5 to use upgraded models in a 360 port.

I'm forever a Sega-whore. Art aside (though some of it is not so bad), this is technically smoooking.

That's the scariest looking big black dude EVAR. He looks like he could literally rape large grown men by sheer intimidation and then proceed to masticate them while they are still alive.

If someone looking like that with that exact expression walked up to me on the streets, I would instantly piss and poo in my pants.

OMG. Ok that's it right there - check out the material on the clothes? If anyone else says DOA look better than this then there is something wrong with them.

you're right. VF5 looks better. :D

they should tone the lighting/shadowing system a bit, i can understand in industrial looking levels fighters looking all shiny with sweat and everything but it really looks unnatural and make me wanna go plastic men fighters 4 is coimg out (my respect for the series stop me) when kage's hands shine like a beacon in a natural environment like aoi's, it's a japanese garden for christ sake not a movie set.

?! How could you think such a thing? What's the matter with you?

Nevermind, let me show you something:

When professional people fight they get sweaty (even before the fight) and with strong lightning they all shine extravagantly. If you want VF5 to look more natural then they, AM2, have to reduce the colour-tones of the characters and use photo-realistic texture to make everything look completely humane, such changes at the moment could either spoil the look of the game or create something negative at this point of time.

Anyhow, even with this strong point, I doubt you would change your mind from this bad mindset so I advise you to wait until you see the game for your own eyes running before you complain about things such as this.

More set-up for combo in this version.

Go to www.virtuafighter.jp to see the new skills properly.

*Sigh... This is torture, why won't they release a high resolution video? Even if it's the same one they showed back at E3 I would at least be happier.

It is a new move. She criples the legs of her opponent then shift and perform a jumping spin kick to the collar-bone. All on virtuafighter.jp.

People aren't retarded Trojan X, they know what a sweaty human body looks like, and it doesn't look like a waxwork model. Not that I am really that bothered about whether or not the character models shine if the game rocks/sucks
