Ever get hired by a group less intelligent and competent than yourself?

I applied for the projectionist job at Cinemark Theatres and was hired a couple days later and asked to come in to fill out paperwork.

I got to the offices 15 minutes early, was asked to have a seat, and waited for 10 minutes. I spent that time watching the managers goof around with each other, talk about the crazy party they had the previous night, and make all sorts of rude jokes. They seemed very nervous talking to me, too. They answered my questions poorly and stumbled over their words. This went hand in hand with my friends telling me that the managers there are like "chickens with their heads cut off".

On top of that, I was the cleanest cut person there. Everybody else looked like a 17 year old Korn fan dressed in a suit. I'm going to keep the job because friends who have had the job before me say it's great, but I don't know how seriously I can take a place that has managers less intelligent and less competent than myself.

I can't believe they're THAT stupid!

You must take pictures and audio recordings for proof.

I'm going to purchase a smaller camera with my first paycheck. I don't want people to see me taking pictures.

You should go Tyler Durden on them and inert your nude picture inbetween frames during PG movies.

And of course, take pictures of the horrified audience from the projectionist room with your telescopic lense.

So, based off of 1 brief interview, you consider them less intelligent and competent than you? Could it be that they were still "on a high" from the previous night?

A brief interview where they stumbled over their words when answering my questions. A brief interview conducted by human-sized rats in suits. A brief interview preceeded by rude jokes and unprofessional behavior.

I'll like the job, but I doubt I'll take managment very seriously.

It's not that hard to believe they're that incompetent. I've been able to size up total dipshits in a matter of minutes before, and turned out I was right. Sometimes some people are real dumbshits, and they wear it on their sleeves.

I called Vegas and the over/under on your employment is 4 months.

Early reports say there is heavy betting on the under.

I had the brief misfortue of working for an editor that was dumber than every one of his employees.

He had a great talent for taking every idea he touched and making it worse. I had to quit after a couple of months working for him, but he still continues to work his crap magic.

I am having problems believing that line myself. Is that even possible?

You're awfully arrogant for a guy who's applying for jobs at a movie theatre. Not the most self aware person, are we? What's most satisfying about this story is that in the eyes of the company, these guys are your superiors. :lol

Disclaimer: this story takes place in Texas.

As opposed to the more passive approach, which includes spying on your neighbors and selling pictures of you-know-who for a you-know-what.

isn't Olimario the one who got kicked out of school because of a screw up by his counselor, and instead of taking action against the school just went and got his GED - following all this up by posting about it on GAF and thinking he was "better off" for it?

I just needed a summer job and this seems like a fine place to have one.

I don't regret getting my GED at all. I'm making a 4.0 in community college and at this point anything prior to college is irrelevant. I've been accepted to the college I want to attend and, God willing, will be heading out there in the fall.

Totally!

This one time, I was mowing lawns, asking a mere 20 dollars a lawn. This old guy comes out after I knock on his door. He's got on these goofy high shorts, a white tank top, and this huge ass fishing hat. Totally unprofessional. He didn't like the 20 dollar fee (which is VERY reasonable, especially in this economy), so he tried to talk me down to 10. Well, I didn't like that! I'm in HIGH demand, y'know? A lawnmower IS NOT a dime-a-dozen occupation! So, I held firm, explained the logistics behind the 20 dollar fee. He sort of shook his head and THEN the JERK offered me lemonade. Lemonade! Can you believe it? Tried to bribe me with lemonade! Well, out of the goodness of my heart I let him hire me for 15. But it's burned me ever since.

Don't listen to these guys, Oli, they're spewing smoke.

I know its a fad to slam olimario here, and in most cases it's completely deserved, but in this case he's got a point. There's nothing I can't stand more than showing up for an interview and nobody besides myself having a sense of professionalism. It's a small gripe but it really does speak loads about the company.

And you were smart to get your GED then start college. Seriously... I've told a few people to try it because they hate high school so much (getting picked on, waking up early, etc) that their academic life suffers for it. One guy did what you did and had his associates by the time he was 18.

This kind of management is expected at a theatre. It's like expecting a clean cut, by-the-book manager at a EB Games or somen hahaha NEVER.

and you know this, man.

Our local Cinemark is run by professional men. It sounds like yours is pretty shitty.

Oli, it's time to start a pirating group.

Yar!!!
You going to E3 for sure?

*GASP* You mean a couple of kids don't care to move up the ranks of their Cinemark theater? And they weren't acting professional at the age of 17!? Shocking to say the least.

No kidding! What a lack of foresight! If they applied themselves, I bet one day they could be in charge of the whole snackbar. Kids these days.

Hahahahaha wow someone with a GED who goes to community college think they're smarter than someone :lol

I got the GED because I was expelled.
I'm using community college as a stepping stone since I had to get a GED to continue my education.

Those two things have no bearing on my intelligence.

I dropped out of school in 9th grade, got my GED later (with the highest possible score, though honestly the test is a joke) and now work at a mortgage company. GED instead of a Diploma is no indicator of a person's intelligence; just indicates there were problems (not necessarily academic) with high school.

Amen.
I got a ridiculously high score on the GED. I wish I had taken it in the 8th grade and been done with it.

I wonder what olimario's IQ is?

If I had to guess it would be a 105.

Levious btw, you sticking around in DC when you are done or are you going someplace else? And you get a job yet? I turned down an offer in VA because I hated working there and now I am regretting it and am feeling the heat of being unemployed. :(
