The more intelligent AI gets, the dumber we get

People said the same thing when the calculator was introduced. And computers. And the internet. And mobile phones.

Dumb people will stay dumb, with or without AI support.

Just wait till the exam time where you need to provide not only the solution but also outline your logic. Fun times ahead.

Well, that's what I nearly put in my reply - that homework is pointless, so why set it. If homework is necessary, maybe it needs to take place in supervised environments (so not HOMEwork anymore) or it becomes unmarked and instead people just give evidence of having done the work through constant, soul destroying testing.

Like social media, I don't think you can put AI back in the box, so everything else has to change for it. Quite a big price to pay to be able to generate and share memes hoping to get some likes from strangers.

Sounds like the kid is using it right, schools are wasting time teaching kids to write poems and other shit, let the AI do it so the kids can focus on what really matters.
NGL, but if a buncha girls can just focus on their twerking skills, eating right, staying fit, and learning how to please a man while AI does all their 'thinking' for them, especially managing their budget....it might work out for the best for all of us :p

I was thinking about this last night and it s reminded me about what an old math teacher said to me. He didn’t do much care about the answer, but the process of getting there. He taught us to dig into those questions and think rather than try to get the answer. The answer would come in time, but the thinking was key.

That was/is a good teacher

It's worrying that can happen in such a short space of time. And to an adult too, not just kids who have grown up not doing anything else.

I'm not surprised. The man has major brain rot. He spends hours upon hours scrolling throw TikTok and Insta. I've known him for 16 years and he's a shell of the man he used to be.

He's 40 years old and uses words like "Rizz" and "skibidi" in sentences and a lot of other nonsense. Sometimes I don't understand what the fuck he's talking about.

Are sure an actual adult wrote this? How?

Why is this 11 year old watching squid game?
Why is the TV on while she does homework?

I'm ready to be dumb. I want AI to take over, I want the robots. I don't want to work anymore, I don't want to worry about money. I just want to game and have the occasional sex.

Spoiler: you won’t have the occasional sex unless you are good- looking, you are fit, and can provide. Two of these things you can’t have if you don’t work and just game, and the third… well, even if you are, there’s gonna be a bunch of equally good-looking guys, but they’ll be fit and able to provide.

People equating AI to the pocket calculator may already be too far into the AI-dominated rabbit hole themselves if that’s their argument.
A pocket calculator still requires you to input correct data, and know what to do with the answer.
AI will just guess what a nearly-illiterate human asks of it, and give answers that may not even be tangentially related to what that human asked about. And most of these humans will take that answer anyway, not realizing it wasn’t what they asked, and use it to (not) solve the problems they asked the AI a solution to.

AI isn’t just a tool that a person uses to solve problems under the person’s complete control. It already has enough power to take control over what its user actually wants, if the user isn’t 100% aware of what they want and what they want it for.

It's a reddit post so it's a fake story. Also the person is just as retarded because their writing is terrible, gives me a headache trying to read that bullshit.
This is accurate regarding reddit posts like this one; even though reddit is powered by humans, it's actually significantly worse than most AI.

The site has a built-in reward structure that leads to the generation of anonymous stories like this one that create cheap debate & engagement; it's basically a very badly tuned AI model where the neural network is humans. And this problem is all over the web--our actual human-written content on the web fell into a total abyss years ago, prior to AI coming onto the scene. All content sites (TikTok, etc) are factories for making the user dramatically less intelligent by farming the lowest engagement-driving content from the creators.

I say this because even in this likely fictional reddit post, the AI isn't the core problem. That kid would otherwise be using their smartphone to look up answers on various social sites, which is even worse. We have a problem with kids being allowed to hook into their phones at an early age, and education needs to create long-term spaces of engagement where the phone does not play a role, truly focused offline time to fight against the rewiring of the brain caused by giving kids the trash internet.

Reading complex books with AI is a joy. One of my favorite books, 'The Secret Teachings of all Ages' by Manly P. Hall., requires high levels of cognitive involvement. It's not easy because it delivers semantics on so many different layers. With AI, I can discuss difficult passages until I understand them. You can download the book for free on the official CIA.gov website, btw.

Being "curious" and writing poems doesn't help you secure and maintain a job in the real world, kids shouldn't be wasting their time on that crap, teach them how to do taxes, keep on top of bills, etc.
Is this the worst opinion ever post in this forum?

I'm often struck when I read passages of the journals of old soldiers during the wars, often beautifully eloquent and immaculately penned. I can't imagine many today have the attention span for it. Including myself.

School is a giant waste of time. It’s daycare. It’s pure pain for someone with genuine intellectual curiosity 99% of the time. An AI tutor with some supervision will easily outperform it and open up a world of knowledge and mastery at the student’s true pace. Obviously accountability to performing the work is part of that, not the AI writing papers for you.

People were getting dumber every day since the advent of the internet. Just think about… you have a device in your hand with basically all of human knowledge and like 95% are using it for…. Social media.

And be aware, I would count my former self to those. Luckily I somewhat stumbled into education over the past years. It’s heartbreaking to see how few people read books today.

Happening in games. Quest compasses forever ruined open world and RPG's.

I was blown away that people were blown away because they had to look at a map and navigate.

Reading quest text is seen as a slog.

Auto games for retards that practically play themselves with the press of a single button etc.

I believe that people should be allowed to learn what they want to learn by themselves, not what is in school curriculum. Emphasis on want.

My high school years were terrible as I wasn't good at all subjects and had to ask my parents to bribe the teachers in order not to be expelled for my bad math marks. If AI was invented back then, it would have saved me some trouble.

It's hilarious that I graduated the best ranked university in my country with honours and currently have 3 degrees.

But either way, I prefer learning things myself and not at the university. I enjoy reading about business, psychology, politics, creative writing, etc. And they were not what I studied at the university. I find self-education much more enjoyable than chasing after some diplomma. I can spend hours summarizing a good book.

What I wanted to say is that no AI will eliminate the desire to learn new things a person finds interesting.

This, aside from the massive amounts of energy consumption necessary to drive mass AI operations, has been one of my concerns: people's inclination and gravitation towards convenience. Easy and unrestricted access to AI is just going to accelerate it and increase dependence.

Anecdotally, I have had a convo with someone who claimed he can't perform basic elementary school multiplication tables without some math tool in his hands.

accountability is the raid boss for many young children trapped in the world of social media.

Add those stock photo companies to the list of things AI will CRUSH.

Seeing these VERY sloppy AI images standing in for real photos. Hell, the entire article these are associated with is probably AI generated clickbait slop.

That's how you raise an adult who asks ChatGPT how to write a "polite e-mail" to a client. Yes, kids need to learn literature as well as any other "important" subjects.
