Like how shit is about hit the fan and EVERYTHING is about to go wrong? It's like some sort of gut feeling or intuition. Like how there is a disturbance in the Force? (geek analogy, but you get what I mean)

Goddamn, I'm feeling awfully disturbed for reasons that I am completely unable to pinpoint. And I find it highly unsettling.

Recently, I have been facing a whole host of personal issues and yet people around me are also sinking into depression. So, apart from having to deal with my own issues, I have had to be there for others as well. I wasn't depressed before but perhaps the bad karma or bad vibes from others are rubbing off on me? Which has led me to think, that perhaps I am the source of all this bad karma. Perhaps, I am the one causing others to sink into depression?

Any thoughts?

What MAF said. There's always gonna be shit comin' down, so just buck up and recognize that it too will pass if you keep a forward-looking (not necessarily optimistic -- just forward-looking) mindset. Don't judge your movement through life based on those around you -- many will either try to drag you down or play themselves up. Actively seek to recognize these little games and diminish their effect in a positive way.

If you have a bad feeling, examine your current situation. Don't go ascribing mystical properties to it; just look at the concrete happenings in your life. It could be something as simple as having missed a mortgage payment that you forgot about, or a group of friends you've brushed off one too many times. Intuitively and/or subconsciously, you know when you're making social mistakes, and each one you make can add to your dread. It might be more complicated, too, like a series of mistakes made at work, or lies told to peers in recent recall. In that case, you might wanna fortify the deck in case that one card gets pulled and everything comes tumbling down.

If you're worried about your friends -- and it sounds like you are -- talk to them. There's no such thing as karma; people do shit to themselves and others and get shit done unto them, even if you aren't a factor, and there's often no point in blame when you're at such a removed perspective. Sometimes, it's very hard for folks to examine the current state of their lives with a critical eye. If they're depressed and it isn't a clinical condition, then they probably just need a little human support. There's no payoff for you, but in the future you may -- no, chances are you WILL -- be on the end of life's shitspray and need someone to help you dig your way out of the hole. Things only get worse when you and your friends all live incommunicado, assuming the worst and never expressing hope for a better outcome.

Sometimes, though, you're just being paranoid. If you can't recall any important things you've forgotten or people you might have inadvertently hurt, you may just be experiencing the onset of cyclical depression sans any particular catalytic event (which often manifests as dread rather than specific depression). In that case, just ride it out. It'll pass -- and if it doesn't, seek help. Change your routines, go somewhere new, and actively work to engage the part of your brain that overrides the self-absorbed line of thought with the need to acquire new information and experiences.
