Everyone Needs A Dashcam / State Farm are A**holes

Also wow thats 100% her fault. What the hell people! No reason you should have to expect a car coming through like that
But but he might have not had his turn signal on because the 17 year old psycho driver who was clearly very observant said so. And it's simply natural to assume that OP is lying on that point because reasons. OP is at fault because he turned into the turn lane right away and instead of looking in places where only oncoming traffic should have been he was looking where he was driving like some kind of moron.

Wow.

Yeah, time to invest in a dashcam. Any recommendations?

I used to use BlackVue but I really like my Thinkware F800 front and rear now. I find the image quality quite comparable to each other, but the sound capture is significantly better with the Thinkware. User interface is personal preference but I prefer the Thinkware’s software as well.

I know this is sarcasm but OP has not been able to provide any proof of his turn signal being used at all. It's simply his word at this point since there's no audio in the video.

There is literally no proof at all whether he signaled and yet everybody is just taking his word for it. Especially since the other party is claiming he didn't signal.

Most large cities, like Los Angeles, allow people to enter turn lanes early, as traffic build up at red lights commonly builds beyond the “entry” area of turn lanes. Cars enter prior to that, otherwise no vehicles will even be in that lane prior to the green light cycle completing.

This. 1000x this. Happens all the time here in my city during rush hour and sometimes you do have to cross the double yellow line (assuming it's safe completely) to get to the left turn lane before it ends, otherwise you're stuck waiting for another light cycle to pass.

Don't go too cheap as the low end is Chinese junk. On avg, something 1080p and decent can be had for about 100$.

I bought a dashcam from aliexpress for about $7, free shipping. Threw an SD card in it, and it works much better then I expected. Has a battery in it for 30 min motion detection recording. Video and audio are pretty good. I would agree most Chinese rip offs are junk, but this one seems to be ok, not disappointed.

lucky you, i had brought some Chinese cam, with a built in screen, roughly 40$ back in 2012, it had a useable 640x480 resolution, a loss of 3-5 seconds between clips, was generally slow.

But again, that was 2012.

Even today I still think Chinese junk is hit or miss. I bought a small security cam not too long ago, opened it up, and the item literally fell apart.

Altough, if you have an older Android phone that you don't use anymore, get a windshield mount, and turn it into a dashcam.

UPDATE : THEY CHANGED MY CASE!
STATE FARM NOW CLAIMS I"M 55% AT FAULT! #$)%#*F SDKLH! Its going to arbitration and my repair is October 12th, they'll only charge my deductible if needed.

He doesn't need to check his blindspot because the person behind him shouldn't be in the opposite lane trying to swoop in when OP clearly was driving into the turning lane off the intersection.

You should always be checking your blind spot when leaving a lane and entering another one. This video proves your point wrong haha.

Except he entered the lane where it starts because if he didn't he would be in the oncoming traffic lane. This video proves it haha.

On September 15th I was driving home from the dog park when a 17 yo female clipped into my car.
Evidence as shown :

The clearly new driver got into the turn lane too soon after illegally crossing double yellow lines; When I made my way into the lane - after using my turn signal and noticing her once I started to get in the lane - she clipped into my vehicle and yet still propelled forward a fair bit even as I stopped.

The Officer who wrote the crash report is still doing the full report as apparently the girl goes to school out of town which is delaying talking to her and issuing her a citation for her driving.
State Farm - her insurance - has sent a letter saying the investigation is complete and they admit 70% fault while claiming I'm 30% at fault.
After talking to them myself they admitted the girl had illegally crossed the lines but wasn't fully at fault. They wouldn't admit that on recording when I called back.

TL;DR : EVERYONE BUY A DAMN DASH CAM

What say you GAF, is court next up?
I'm waiting on my insurance and the Officer to finish whatever they may be doing, but it looks to me like my next step is small claims court.

Am I crazy, is it my responsibility to see people who illegally cut me off? I'm trying to wrap my head around their report. I'm just glad I had a dashcam.

Has anyone had a similar incident? I'd like to know the results of similar situations and what moves one has (other than court) if an insurance is refusing fault.

Is this a joke? She is 100 percent at fault all day, you better fight this.

I'm not saying he is at fault I'm saying it's utterly retarded to not check your blind spot when leaving a lane and entering a new one. It is silly to assume all is well because you happen to be following the rules of the road. This video proves that haha.

She's 100% at fault, anyone who says otherwise needs to learn how to drive. BTW my dashcam is front and back, goodluck screwing me over.

Yea, you should always check your blind spot and where you're go. This girl was moving very fast compared to him though. You can't constantly be staring at your sideview mirror just in case a moron flies into the lane.

Well he should have checked his side mirror before making a lane change.

Agreed (kinda), on the first part; The part that loses me is that I'd be at fault for ANY of this.
If I'm at a four way and the light turns green its smart to make sure no one is running a red light, right?
Now if someone runs a red light and hits me in the side what percent is that my fault? :\ Zero right? I'd hope zero.

I checked my blindspot but based on the video and her trajectory after impact I think she was a bit back and a bit faster than me; Either way I only noticed her as I entered the lane.

I did, but admittedly probably not long enough. There's a plaza entrance on our left and being a newer driver I think she entered at that left turn lane (as its right before the one we collided) then sped up; See how far he car moves in the video compared to mine.
I stopped the moment I noticed her in my driver side mirror.

Nevertheless my repair is October 12th and Geico is sending it to arbitration a third party. (I think another car insurance agency based on what she told me last week?) I'll update when I get this whole thing behind me. Thanks for listening and giving advice GAF. <3

I need to hook up my rear cam and figure out why half my videos have sound and half (like this one) didnt.

My next big purchase is that $25,000 Tesla, if its like their current models those have side cams as well. :messenger_sunglasses:

Situation could have been avoided though if op checked his blind spot.

The girl is still at fault as she did an illegal maneuver.

If op was a better driver I feel like this whole ordeal could have been adverted.
Seriously? Like ... seriously?
Good lord.

MIRROR OR NO MIRROR. There is NO AUDIO in the video and no sign or proof of using a signal before moving into that lane. The burden of proof is on OP to provide evidence of that. Especially when they admitted that she is claiming they didn't signal.

This is why he is being considered at fault. Why is there still discussion about the mirror still going on? It has nothing to do with the mirror...

Update : Fully refunded. 11/27

Accident 9/14
Repair 10/12 to 10/19
Deductible charged ($500) 10/20
Arbitration start : 11/3
Arbitration finish : 11/27

Arbitration was successful and we proved 100% against STATE FARM.

That was a massive waste of time. lol
Thanks for listening and helping GAF. <3

Check your blind spots everytime. Situations like this are easily avoidable.

I disagree in this situation.
Besides being dark and raining, if you watched the video you can see her propel forward far more than me.
She clearly got over a fair bit before me and was going a fair bit faster.
Could I have avoided the situation? Maybe. Was it /easily/ avoided? Hardly.

Insurance companies are straight up mafia running the old protection racket.
They won't pay you unless you absolutely make them.
