Would be very easy to test this hypothesis, but either way there does seem to be purists who have no intention of learning or playing games outside of standard 1v1, 2D style fighting games.

3v3 with assists is an established paradigm, made so by Marvel 2 and 3, and Skullgirls. We can't make Marvel 4 be anything, but I'm pretty sure the love for this gameplay paradigm is not being completely missed.

so would that include people who think melee players should "move on to the newer game"? thats a pretty clear indication of not knowing how games function
 
They made MvCI 2v2 because 1: fuck you and 2: double fuck you and 3: the OG was that way it feels like they're going for that kind of game

If I had my way, I'd gather all the Smash players in one spot and then that spot would somehow turn into a smoldering crater

Put all the anime games in there too except P4A

If by OG you mean MVC1 that game still had some form of assists in it.

It also had the best character select music which this game can't have.

Nah it wouldn't. I've argued that with Quakeworld, Quake 2, Quake 3, CPM, etc... and I know the mechanics to each intimately, and how they differ. The same argument often pops up for Netherealm games across Mortal Kombat and Injustice (but this community actually does), even though most are aware of how they differ.

Having an opinion on whether a larger overall community should consolidate, or potentially not be able to have both represented on the main stage of events seriously lacking in space and time, isn't the same as not understanding the games.

Besides, you have to do this for Pokken too now.

This talk about Trump and killing gamers because they like Smash is getting pretty weird. :| Even in jest, isn't that distasteful? I try to just tune out of the games I'm not interested in tournaments.

marvel and anime were forever destined to be mortal enemies, forever split by the question of whether marvel is anime or not

marvel 4 will be the olive branch as it is totally anime because it's not 3v3 and there are no assists

representation at evo is one thing, and maybe im just paying way too much attention to trolls, but it does seem like a common sight to see with people hating on either smash, pokken, or even smash melee vs smash 4 o_O

When you think about what's awarded to the game that wins, they're things that directly concern Marvel players. Marvel players feel entitled to appearing on Sunday for instance. Pokken doesn't. KI doesn't. And Evo is going out of their way to make sure player's choice is on Sunday over newer games like KOF and Injustice.

And the pot bonus. If Pokken and KI won then there's a chance that publishers could contribute that themselves. Marvel on the other hand, guaranteed to need it.

Well look at it this way.
FGC kinda ostracized Smash players for a while. Smash got big on their own through MLG and other avenues. They win the poll to get in over Skullgirls, smash hit at Evo, now they're a mainstay. One could argue they should've been there all along.

People don't like Pokken cause it feels like a bit of a hodgepodge and didn't quite get the push they wanted. Seemed to have died out.

I think I explained Smash Melee vs Smash 4 people in this thread but that's basically the snake eating its' own tail

But in general everyone in the FGC likes to fight whether they admit it or not. Even Viscant will pop off if you piss him off enough
 
I fully expected Marvel to take it easily. Pokken and marvel neck and neck. I kind of expected KI to have more people donating , but there's still time I suppose.
