EVO 2017 Player's Choice Game - [Ended] UMVC3 wins #SometimesEvilWins

One can only hope that whichever loses will at least have a sick side tourny with the top 8 streamed on Saturday like Skullgirls got. Obviously doesn't make up for not being on the main stage on Sunday with a $10k pot bonus, but the loser deserves something for making it this close.

If it's like last year I don't think Pokken would have a "sick" side tourney. It didn't even have a good one in the premiere year on the main tourney. Nobody cared.

Exactly. Pokken is probably the most boring to watch "competitive" game out there. I mean, good on it if it generates a ton of charity money, but the game isn't fun to watch.

I'll be legit surprised if Pokken actually manages to win in the end with all the possible ways Marvel could get last minute boosts.

Which makes it all the more dissapointing if it wins.

Yeah. It's weird to watch marvel stream fundraisers where prizes are things like Marvel FGC TShirts and arcade sticks and PS4 UMvC3 codes whereas there are pokken streams giving away pokemon stuff from characters not even in Pokken and just general Pokemon merch.

Just looking at the Twitter timeline for PokkenEvo versus WhensMarvel/WhensMahvel there's such a stark difference in the percentage of participants who are fans of the game and its meta vs being fans of Pokemon/Nintendo. I know people personally who have donated to it who just want it to get more coverage and roots for it to win but barely has a deep connection to the game itself

But then again I may just be a jackass picking what I want to see so go look at it for yourselves. But for me, I feel like Evo should be there for the most passionate, strongest and most active communities, and Marvel definitely ranks up there. That's also why I felt strongly about Skullgirls getting dropped although I don't play the game.

I agree with you. I get why Marvel isn't in the automatically selected games because it had a lower number of entrants last year and nobody knew if it would get supported again but it sucks to see it not at EVO. at least Marvel will be back next year anyway with Infinite so it's only a year if it doesn't win.

If we get fucked out of another Marvel tourney after we get new console ports because they wanted to overload on anime bullshit I will probably tackle Beef

Anime is love, anime is life, fren.

Fuck Pokkén.

During top 8 last year the entire left half of the crowd took seats to watch Street Fighter next to it.

They had a lot of entrants but none of them decided to actually watch it apparently.

My war on anime will be Tuck Everlasting

Marvel is "anime bullshit".

It is most certainly not ArcSys level of nonsense

BlazBlue has no business taking a main spot over either of these games but EVO knew you had to have two heavy hitters in the poll to drive donations

I recall seeing the seats filled up and hearing some folks cheer in response to Pokken matches. But I wouldn't be surprised if that was true because at that same time SFV quarter finals were happening at the station to the left of the stage and they were super hype matches.

Well you were one of the few. I'll always remember when I sat down and nearly doubled the number of people watching in person at EVO.

Pokken finals last year were the only game I recall getting a seat easily for .... and I only sat down because I was waiting for KI ... and the left screen had some amazing SFV stuff happening.

Because it's horrible to watch. Even the entrants know that.

Blazblue & Guilty Gear are always at the top when it comes to exciting finals though. It's like almost the entire community mutually agrees (at least from the chat) that those matches are hype unlike when the other games are on.

I don't play BB or GG but I still remember these as some of the best finals to watch.

EVO 2k11 Grand Finals LordKnight (Litchi) vs Spark (Hakumen)

And pretty much the whole top 8's from GG.

BB rotating on/off with GG at EVO is a crime when both games are reasonably popular and fun to watch. I love Pokken but I wouldn't trade BB for it. No way.

Now Injustice 2, that's another story...

Bronson's salt would fuel me if I didnt hate ASW now

My salt gives life to all, I call it the Moon Salt

Which has better attendance? That's what really matters

Injustice 2 will probably have pot bonuses and the like, NRS games earned their place but even they only get one, Arc ain't earned shit

I really don't want to see Pokken win this. Not after experiencing it in person last year.

I wasn't planning on throwing cash at any of the games this year but I may have to toss some marvels way.

First and only year that Injustice was at EVO (2014) it got 311 players while BBCP had 508. You could make a good argument for the MK games, but I don't think Injustice has that kind of draw.

You're right about pot bonuses and stuff though. WB is a lot more liberal with their cash than ArcSys unfortunately.

There's no point in even following this so closely since nothing matters until people drop big stealth donations in the last 10 minutes and change everything.

This is so stupid and I hope EVO stops thinking it's a smart way of doing anything.

There should probably be an adjusted limit towards the end.

Cap it at $100 during the final day.

No matter how stupid it gets, it's still ultimately worth it for the tens of thousands that go towards charity. Easy trade for a few butthurt fanboys.

Maybe fraud is the line, but that's difficult, if not impossible to control for.
