I REALLY doubt it, even if the competitive scene latches on to it it'll take a while before it overtakes Melee.

I think it's the opposite. Nintendo will sponsor the hell out of it and get one year but Melee will become more dominant once the marketing dies down.

Why? Third Strike and MvC2, beloved Evo fighting games, were replaced immediately by their successors.

Nintendo obviously will push Smash 4 over Melee as well. The Smash competitive community would have to reject Smash 4 pretty much wholesale for Melee to return to Evo, and even then it's dubious.

The community might rebel. We've seen communities mostly not showing up with EVO as we saw with TTT2.
