There. I've cut down the list to characters Neogaf would agree with.

nah...you still need to make some cuts.

I'm liking Tony Soprano's placement on there. I just started watching all through The Sopranos this year. He is a really amazing character in a fantastic series.

I smh at Master Chief on this list.

Is Mario not on this list because "Of the Last 20 Years" means making their global debut after 1989?

I would not rule out the possibility that this list was created by an EW employee cutting and pasting together an assortment of previous bullshit lists.

This theory is tossed out the window when The Joker makes the top five.

Expected to see Homer at #1 and rightly so. Technically it should be the entire cast of the Simpsons, but he'll do as a representative. Didn't bother to read the rest of the list.

I was on the verge of agreeing with you until I realized you misspelled Hank Scorpio.

Simpsons, as well, has been around as its own show since '89 and before that as Tracy Ulman shorts.

What is the deal with Lara Croft? Was she really that iconic in the 90s?

Granted I was a kid then, but I only ever saw her in game magazines, and not with much more frequency than other big game characters.

I feel like this list was made up by someone who just rambled off 100 names they could think of and numbered them in the order that they thought of them.

Thats right.
For some reason I thought the post-shorts show started in 1990

what is it with all the top X lists recently?

Extremely low opportunity costs and effort needed on the production side, easy to spread over multiple pages to generate extra page clicks/views, very easy for them to "go viral" with people linking to the website and sceraming about how "wrong" they are, etc.

Edit: Lists are also extremely easy to interpret and digest, for the most part, so they can reach a broader audience than a lengthy, thoughtful essay or research piece would. There are probably some other obvious reasons that I haven't included.

Man, they must have been on crack or something.

dave is ok

aztek is ok
I assumed this was based on some pop culture impact or some bullshit - considering Rachel Green was in the Top 10, but then I realized it contained characters from books I had never heard of and some shows that have relatively small audiences too

Stupidest list I have ever seen

Harry Potter? WTF!?! He's lame enough to be an anime character :\

I've enjoyed the movies (not so much the last one, though), but HP himself is getting pretty irritating.

But...some of these aren't from the 4 shows and 10 movies that GAF says I am allowed to watch...

I don't understand?

I mean, I see characters from Larry David shows, and 30 Rock, and the Office (US version, obviously). I don't...I mean, this is weird...

Stupid list, but who cares, let's move along.

At least friday night lights is on there somehow. Although tami or coach taylor should have been there instead of tim riggins.:lol

I want to see the meeting where they came up with this list. It's such a stroke of genius in that offends every possible taste, therefore guaranteeing internet discussion. Masterful.

Rachel Green is #6???

I disagree with almost every single female that is on that list. And how Rachel from Friends is one below the Joker from The Dark Knight is just blowing my mind.

People are obsessive compulsive and compartmentalists?

Was she iconic in the 90s? The Times UK Magazine created and published their own official Tomb Raider level. Lara was in Lucozade ads. She's had two feature films starring Angelina Jolie. Nine feature games.
