Explain to me this pony thing

Yeah seriously I have to explain the god damn difference between fanfiction shipping about humanoids to drawing pony porn or making sex toys out of plushies. Cannot believe this conversation is happening.

Actually, no you don't. Nobody really asks you to post. Or anybody for that matter.

I've got a teammate, a very skilled programmer, who is really into MLP. I've tried to understand it but I simply cannot.

He has pretty much no friends outside of his pony club, is very difficult to get along with, and has communication troubles.

He wears only pony-themed clothes, even when dressinng nice he's got pony polos. He paints his fingernails the color of his favorite pony (he is straight and doesn't come off as feminine). He has tried to show me pony porn. He goes by the nickname of his pony-self and aggressively insists it's his real name.

He collects pony figurines, and sleeps with a pony plushie. He listens to pony-themed remixes of popular songs. He only willingly talks to females who like ponies as much as he does. He is an adult.

Yet at the same time, he tells me that ponies are not what his life revolves around, and outright denies enjoying any sexual representation of these cartoon characters.

What am I missing?

He tries to explain to me that he loves the concepts of love and friendship taught by the show. Not only do I feel that these kind of things can be easily classified as common sense, he doesn't demonstrate any of the traits he claims the show conveys.

It is his way of coping with loneliness, like that of an anime waifu or something?

I want this explained so I can better understand the people I work with every day.

Sweet Billy?

There is no such thing as this.

Nobody ever just shows a friend some porn as a matter of interest or as a joke, unless it's a deliberate prank to gross someone out. If you're being shown weird porn by someone who is sitting there and laughing "this is so stupid, look at this" they actually love it.

hrm... I don't want to believe it. but you might be right. I dunno. This guy isn't completely socially developed so maybe he doesn't get that? I can't really...I can't

They aren't animals, they aren't real, they don't exist. You do realize that? It's not bestiality. You can think it's weird as hell, but that doesn't make it bestiality.

I have a pet theory that the cognition, the talking, the socialization, it's so familiar that people don't see 'animals' anymore. The anthropomorphizing is so complete, that they're actually seeing pony shaped people. Which is something to think about. Or roll your eyes about hahah.

I would like to expect better from you, but I don't. A blind person can see what happens in these threads, and is happening now.

These threads? Sure. Granted I'm talking about a specific fucking instance of someone showing somebody else porn. Nice cross.

This isn't like Grizz walked into his private space. This guy is actively telling him about his obsession with MLP. There's nothing wrong with enjoying the show. There is plenty off to me about sexualizing the characters, calling oneself a "brony" and showing others pony porn.

Damn, we've got the sexual deviancy police up in here.

If they're not hurting anyone, what do you care?

Again:

Fantasizing is not a sexual activity, thus it's no zoophilia or bestiality. It's just a sexual attraction to an animal, which there can be nothing wrong with because it takes place entirely in your goddamn mind.
Fantasizing about bestiality is perfectly legal. We're some years away from the thought police.

Not to make a ridiculous comparison or anything, but fantasizing about children is also legal.

but still totally entirely fucked up

Well, it's weird in that it's outside of the norm. I can't argue with that.

But it's not wrong, nor is it bad. And it doesn't deserve mocking.

Not to make a ridiculous comparison or anything, but fantasizing about children is also legal.

Yeah, I already said that when someone tried to be oh so clever and think I would stumble when pedophilia got in the picture. You can fantasize about children and jack off to these thought. It's legal and it's even OK to do so if it helps no rape anyone.

Oh my God, this thread.... I can't believe how "real" it got, while still being hilarious.

I feel like Caesar watching people battle for my amusement. I wish I had a big bunch of grapes to eat from while I'm fanned by eunuchs.

Bronies are the creepiest mainstream (mainstream? common? I don't know) demographic to come up in the past 10 years in my opinion.

Is it because they watch the show? No. I watch dumb cartoons all the time and I'm 21. It's the complete obsession with the show to the point that you're defining yourself as a "brony" as if your only worth is that you like My Little Pony.

I'm a complete Metal Gear nerd but I don't go around saying "I am Raiden, the rain transformed" nor do I sleep in Big Boss pajamas.

It doesn't help that the vast majorities of these guys that I've encountered, in real life and online, fit a very rigid "anti-social" stereotype. Overwhelmingly so. I feel like it must be, on a whole, a way of coping with loneliness that just hit at the right time for a certain group of people. Still, it's creepy to me. Sorry if any of you take offense to that but when you're investing so much time, effort and money into what is a children's tv show with a very basic message (I always find it odd that people bring up that they like the message of friendship and all that as a reason to like the show...this is a message seen in every kids show) it gets really weird, and people aren't wrong to see it as...questionable.

It's a method of social inclusion.

A lot of people love love LOVE being social outcasts, whether they do it as a mechanism for being socially awkward in the first place or not. These are the people who will flaunt anything that isn't seen as socially likable. Think nerds who purposely wear shitty clothes, don't shave, and have that stereotypical pony tail. They don't fit in with the rest of the world so they fit in with the nerd world. And they love this.

Bronies are just another example of this. They want to be different for the sake of being different. Because they don't like social norms or are just being rebellious because they want to feel super unique and want people to judge them so they can pretend they're on a moral high ground of being open minded.

All that bullshit of the show having great animation, writing, and lessons are a crock of shit. I've watched an episode of MLP for shits and gigs. The animation is pretty, I'll give them that, but the writing is normal and the "lessons" are fucking common sense anyway. There are plenty of other TV shows, both live action and cartoon, both designed for adults and children that are much better. But liking those is considered socially normal, so they don't do it.

Real Talk.

Both of these folks speak nothing but truth. Ill take back the comment I said about the creators as they are really not at fault. Power Puff girls was awesome. Watched it when I was a teen. Grew up and moved along like a regular adult sane person would.

Not like these neckbeards who have serious mental problems like being anti-social and having extreme fetish issues. Placing a fleshlight on a F'n pony doll? WTF!!!! You cannot compare normal fandom with these crazies as they have crossed a line of not turning back. Seriously that guy raging about Hasbro not making the book the the "real" audience? What? Since when is a children's TV show secretly meant for crazy people? SMH.

Damn, we've got the sexual deviancy police up in here.

If they're not hurting anyone, what do you care?

Well according to some in this thread it should be classified as a mental illness.

After all, they're liking things that aren't normal.

Perhaps they should be lines up and shot in the head? That would be an efficient way of ridding ourselves of them.
We are plotting the final solution to the Brony question.

Dang it you beat me to it. :(

People freak out over other people wanking over cartoon ponies?

'Round my way that's tantamount to strolling into a room and proudly announcing that you like to shit yourself of an evening and then masturbate in your soiled underwear. Sure, you're not hurting anyone and nobody has the right to stop you, but you're crazy if you think you'll gain acceptance.

Maybe I'm just salty because nobody laughed at my 'little hoarse' joke though.

Damn, we've got the sexual deviancy police up in here.

It doesn't take an awful lot of 'care' to express your distaste over the Internet. It's not as if people are actively campaigning to have this stuff banned or anything.

Each and every day, I learn more and more about how real this pony thing is.

And yet, my mind is still holding out that it's the world's running joke.

He "just" got a very weird fetish for comic ponies. Some people want to sleep with trains too. here[sorry for the german]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTrTO-c61WQ special moment at 1:05 XD
That guy sound like quiet an annoying person to be with though, is he?

They aren't animals, they aren't real, they don't exist. You do realize that? It's not bestiality. You can think it's weird as hell, but that doesn't make it bestiality.

So what are they then? Imaginary organisms that just happen to be Ponies?

And the correct term I should actually being using is zoophilia.

I dug it bro.

fanfiction.net says you're not wrong - lots of overlap with other nerdy fandoms in general (Doctor Who is oddly high in particular).

There was a random pony that looked kind of like Doctor Who, and the animators just kind of went with it.

Again, you can parallel this to paedophiles. You too are saying thats okay if they dont attack children?

Absolutely. They can't help what they're attracted to.

It doesn't take an awful lot of 'care' to express your distaste over the Internet. It's not as if people are actively campaigning to have this stuff banned or anything.

36 Chambers sounds like he's chomping at the bit.

I think the biggest problem with the sexualization of the Ponies once more lies in the fact that they don't try to hide it, and, being that MLP: FiM was made to be a strong show for young girls, it's highly unfortunate that the actual target audience can so easily come across pornography of their favorite character.

Sure, it happens with every show, but not to the same extent in my opinion. And it's far worse since it was intended to be a show targeting a group, young girls, who don't get a lot of solid programming aimed at them in the first place.

When we're talking about lonely and socially-awkward people, you gotta think they get as much out of embracing the persecution complex as they do from the show itself.

These "deviant" fandoms tend to attract maladjusted people. I think making your relationship with society adversarial (in an abstract sense) is easier than trying to fit in and dealing with plain old rejection.

I watched the pilot episode once. It seems like a pretty well-written show, so I won't judge adult men for merely watching and following it. The obsessive weird shit just seems like another outlet for furry fandom, lolicon, etc.

I can prove they are mentally unwell just as you can prove they aren't. The guy the OP is describing? I'll take those odds.

Mental illness, in all its forms is a serious and complex issue, and accusations that someone has a mental illness is not something to take lightly, and it is impossible to understand ones entire mental state from a second hand information from an internet post. Regardless if this person and others like him are mentally unwell some of the comments made by certain gaffers (not you in particular) are down right disgusting. Either two options exist,

1. They are mentally unwell. If this is the case the cruel accusations and comments by some are not going the help them in anyway, all it would do would make it worse.

2. It's just an interest of theirs. If it is just something they have an interest in, it has no bearing on you or anyone else in life, and if you disagree with what they like to do the best course of action is just to ignore them.

What's off here is the idea that MLP fandom is perversion in totality, rather than a subset like in every other fandom in existence. People excuse their own associations as "well that's different" when it really isn't.

It's the mental laziness and wide brush painting, along with the rhetorical escalation that's allowed on the subject. Ok, sure, you have a socially inept weirdo, but even that isn't the same as raping children in the neighborhood. It also extends to people who like anime these days. Child rapists. Although if you like videogames you get a free pass, even with the Mass Effect alien porn and erotic fanfics. Because that's different somehow.

ey RZA, i am sure a dude like you have thought about killing a dude before, should you go to jail for that?

Oh of course, thats exactly the same as being attracted to children right?

This thread is fucked.

Bronys deserve the hate and mockery they get, they deserve more. The obvious bronys in this thread are completely fucked in the head.

It's a cute little show and like with everything, there's some people who obsessed with it. I used to know a guy who read mlp fanfics all day long, only listened to pony music and watched it over and over for hours a day. And he also told me that everything in this life sucks except ponies. He is nuts.

I realize that not everybody who watches this show are weird people, but some surely are. And for some strange reason most of them are overweight neckbeards in fedoras...

Just to make your position clear - People who have never harmed a child in their life, are wrong because of their thoughts and should be punished for them?
Just clearing things up.

To be clear, people who have thought of doing anything even remotely antisocial - whether they've acted on it or not - should also be punished and/or shunned.

I quite like MLP. It's a pretty good show, cute, funny, great characters, and even better animation. I got a little obsessed with it during the second season(Still listen to the occasional MLP fan song). That being said, I dislike most other bronies, giving me a bad name and all >__>
