Explain to me this pony thing

Or, if the images in this thread and any discussion about MLP and bronies are to be believed, they really just want to fuck the cutesy ponies.

some of them just want to fuck you in the mind.

people who buy nerf guns....seem weird. Why? That goes for zombie fanatics too. Beside the bronies, there's the zombie shit that doesn't go away.
yep. some people not realizing they're "weird" too, if we're going to be writing out weirdness citations.

Thai and DevilTheory, my point completely flew over your heads. My point was that if adult males are potentially pedophiles for being MLP fans, there's no reason that adult female fans of MLP aren't potentially pedophiles as well. The fact that you both misinterpreted this as a suggestion that guys who think that cosplayer is hot are pedophiles...how the hell did you both reach that conclusion?

Because what you post doesn't make sense in the slightest, the comparison was stupid, and there wasn't a point to it. If that wasn't your insinuation with the cosplayer, then what was?

Again, gender norms at work here. It's fine (even cute) for ladies to be into childish stuff, but for dudes, it's creepy.

Yes, it is. This isn't a debate about androgyny, which you're turning it into. Things have limits, and if you want to subjectively label it as "gender norms" then say so, so the debate can end.

Yes! Are you serious? In the scenario you described, the coworker is clearly obsessed with the show, not with your daughter. At most, he wants to make friends with another fan. Jesus Christ, man. What a perverted mind you have.

Yes, I'm perverted, for being uncomfortable with a grown man using infantile entertainment mediums as his primary source of pleasure.

That's a very small minority of games, and an even smaller minority of popular games. The vast majority of games are aimed at teens, followed by kids. Let's not pretend that Gears of War is aimed at adults, okay? Dostoyevsky is aimed at adults. Kubrick is aimed at adults. The only recent AAA games I can think of that even attempt to be mature are the Bioshock series, the MGS series, and GTA4/RDR.

You really think Gears of War isn't aimed at adults? The M rating is entirely arbitrary, and the incredibly vulgar and gross violence displayed is for children? That's what you're saying? This is also a subjective and stupid example based on whatever you deem as "mature"; whereas something like MLP, there's no debate; and if you think there is, you have more skewed social and mental perceptions than anyone else.

You are right about one thing though, which is that Dostoyevsky is aimed at adults -- it shows the progress a man can make, should make, as opposed to being stuck with a child's mentality.

No, it's not logical because it requires you to ignore many things to make this connection. If a child is watching a show, the parent will see it too and will often watch it with them to share in it with them. Parental Bonus is a bonus. The main content of the show (the characters, situations, settings, and plots) are still aimed at little girls. Each episode will contain a few parent bonuses just to throw some bones to the parents.

I've watched some child television with my niece who is 3. There's no parental bonus in Dora the Explorer. It's boring, but my niece loves it so we watch it so I watch it too. MLP on the other hand is much more bearable thanks to parental bonus. However, the plot (of the one I watched) was still about making matching dresses for a dance or something like that. If you're not into wearing matching dresses, why would you as a grown man by yourself watch a show about that?

It comes down to this: you can like MLP if you want. That's fine. You can like watching a show about matching dresses and you can like matching dresses yourself. I don't care. But let's not kid ourselves. Let's not lie about why you like it. I see two options: you either like little, girly things; or you like being part of a "counter cultural movement thing" and this is an easy one to be a part of.

There are only very few episodes with super girly themes like in your example. Personaly i like the episodes that have monsters or dragons in them the most. The humor and art style reminds me of Castle Crashers or something like that (sans the blood).

But either way i think you're pretty far off from why this show actualy is so popular among the young male demographic imo. I think it has much to do with its emotional impact on people who feel lonely, sad, rejected and depressed (which so often happens to be the case with young males in their quarter life crisis). The show does a great job at filling this emotional void with it's general happiness and positivity.

some of them just want to fuck you in the mind.

That too. Which is why at the end of the day, you're really just better off saying, "Whatever floats your boat, man. Just don't be an annoying prick about it and start waving that shit in front of my face."

New cure for depression found.

Exhibit paedophilia-like characteristics and begin watching pony porn immediately.

Ponies are cute.

People like cute things.

The end.

Probably this. Thinking about it, it doesn't seem much different from some anime fans obsessing over moe characters or lolis or waifus. To the point where it's basically a culture? Yeah, probably.

I don't disagree. I don't think anyone here disagrees. The real question is, why is it automatically assumed that if an adult male likes little, girly things, he is probably a pedophile? It's certainly more likely than if he didn't, but the likelihood is still low. Especially since we're mostly talking about borderline autistic people here. Obsession is a very common trait of people with Asperger's. Furthermore, they probably connect with the theme of pure, unconditional friendship.

If anything, it would be more suspicious if most bronies were backwards cap wearing dudebros, with no feminine traits or interests, save for MLP.

because they don't have the stigma that they want to fuck nerf guns or zombies

heh, well that stigma was brought in from external sources who didn't understand what's going on. But 'you know why he likes childrens' toys don't you? So he can relate to children and lure them in unsuspectingly because he's a pedophile.'

Yes! Are you serious? In the scenario you described, the coworker is clearly obsessed with the show, not with your daughter. At most, he wants to make friends with another fan. Jesus Christ, man. What a perverted mind you have.

to some people, every strange man is a child molester waiting for his chance. I mean, why else would an adult male take interest in a child, or things "made for children"?

In the 80's it was a girls toy to go with Transformers for boys, somehow the reboot crossed some gender lines. I'm almost sure the real draw to it was some kind of ironic statement, but like a drug it hooked the mockers before they could get out.

tbh, I don't really understand it at all.

Now I don't have anything against liking the show or watching it, but men who identify themselves as brony just need to accept that they are creepy.

Because what you post doesn't make sense in the slightest, the comparison was stupid, and there wasn't a point to it. If that wasn't your insinuation with the cosplayer, then what was?

I just explained it in the post you quoted. Are you not even going to address the double standard here? Let me make it even clearer for you:

"Man dressed like girly pony? Creepy!"
"Woman dressed like girly pony? HOT!"

Yet both the man and woman are adults indulging in something that is aimed towards little kids.

You really think Gears of War isn't aimed at adults? The M rating is entirely arbitrary, and the incredibly vulgar and gross violence displayed is for children? That's what you're saying?

Not children. Teenagers. Luckily, most adults (myself included) can easily revert back to the teenage mentality ("Violence is cool and edgy!"), hence great sales with both teens and adults.

Of course, most little boys think violence is cool too, so that's an added bonus as well. Do you not remember what it was like to be a male kid? Anything girly was "gay", anything violent was cool. We're adults now, so we should be past that nonsense, along with the high-school mentality of looking down on "freaks".

Jesus christ. Why even post this. Another fine example of the socially normal Mlp fans.

This from a hardcore rap fan. You all need freaking history lessons.

I think the creepiness comes from the a grown man dressing like a character from a show meant for little girls. Everyone keeps saying "kids" but it's really girls.

Really? I thought it was brought on from all the pony porn and clopping talk.

And no, the "They're just messing with everyone!" excuse doesn't fly.

I accept the fact that men like MLP but that doesn't mean I don't think it's weird.

It's also weird for grown men to like Anime, Thundercats, Transformers, Marvel and DC comic books, video games, little collectible board games, TCG, half of the stuff sold at geek stores, Lego and movies about elves and sorcerers. And I bet most of the people in here love at least half of that.

GAF, stop trying to define yourself by putting yourself over stuff other people think, do or like. It's so silly.

Most people are not concerned with people who just like to watch MLP.

It's the people who become completely and utterly obsessed with it.

I let that attitude rule me when I was young. I find that most people who hate me for what who I am or what I like are jackasses (or pitifully ignorant) so fuck em.

*Shrug*

I hid that I was gay for 20 years because of these shitheads. I'm not going to deny myself a pony sticker because people like them FLIP THE FUCK OUT if I do anything out of the norm.

Really? I thought it was brought on from all the pony porn and clopping talk.

What came first? I'm gonna have to go with the outrage over liking what other people don't like. That was probably day 1. By Day 3, we probably had porns, but the hate and anger definitely came first. "You like stuff made for girls. hurrhurr, what are you, a fayg? You like little kids r sumthin?" That's actually what made me take a closer look. Wondering what everyone was so angry about.

I just expected it to be another cheesy cartoon like the one from the 80s.

However, the plot (of the one I watched) was still about making matching dresses for a dance or something like that.

That particular episode was about the creator's frustration with executive meddling and vague feedback from people who don't have the first clue what they want out of her. But you see what you're expecting to see.

So they can like it without issue, it's when they like it too much that it becomes a problem? I don't get this line of thinking. Are people just irked that they don't enjoy anything as much as bronies enjoy MLP?

"You are only allowed to have fun up to a certain level of enjoyment. Any enjoyment and expression thereof that exceeds said level shall hereby label you 'weird' and/or 'creepy' and/or 'obsessed'. These labels shall make it acceptable for you to be insulted and mocked for having too much fun. If you wish to shed such labels you must reduce your level of fun down to the socially accepted level."

It's more in the line of it's ok until you start wanting to fuck fucking ponies (or watching porn about it).

Like I said, it's all pretty cool if people just act nonchalant about it. People have different tastes and it's a given that there will be differing opinions and thoughts.

Take being gay like you said, for example. Back in college, some of my most respected colleagues were gay and they were usually the ones who embrace it but don't flaunt it as if they had something to prove. Contrast that with the ones in Fine Arts department who were blatant to the point of making a fool out of themselves that they were really the ones who instill the bad image of homosexual people: noisy, loud and overtly flirting with you even if you just happened to pass by their area. It's a subset that's making the whole look bad.

Unfortunately, that's how bronies first introduced themselves to me. Bombing threads in forums and turning them into MLP fests even though the subject matter did not even relate to MLP really didn't pose a good first impression with me and by the time it was all over, I was sick of the whole thing. It's really a good thing the fad's dying down. There's really only so much pony meme a non-fan of the show can take.

And that's not even going to the whole weird factor in this whole brony movement which I personally find creepy, but hey. Like I said, everyone's got their own little thing and if that's what makes them happy, then who am I to get in their way of bliss? Just don't expect me to treat it like it's normal. Societal norms and all, it's not.

It's more in the line of it's ok until you start wanting to fuck fucking ponies (or watching porn about it).
"You are only allowed to be sexually aroused by a certain group of subjects. Any arousal and related actions involving subjects outside the designated group shall hereby label you 'weird' and/or 'creepy' and/or 'obsessed'. These labels shall make it acceptable for you to be insulted and mocked for being a pervert. If you wish to shed such labels you must only be aroused by the socially accepted group of subjects."

Sex is a weird thing and all kinds of weird shit gets people off. Judging people for what gets them off when they aren't hurting anyone is an exercise in futility as it will result in nothing positive.

Any hobby can delve into the creepy category, not just MLP. Some hobbies are easier to label creepy because they are socially odd. Ponies are one of these hobbies because its made for little girls.

I don't see what's so hard to understand.

By that logic it'd be ok to be attracted to kids. Being attracted to animals is almost as bad to me.

Also, it's a fucking cartoon!!!

How can someone be sexually attracted to a non-existing thing they can't have sex with? Is that ok?!

I know they are weird. You all know they are weird. They probably know they are weird. If anyone actually questions the idea that most people don't like MLP to the level that bronies do then they need their head checked.

My point is that them being weird does not make it ok for people to liken them to pedophiles and other such insults. Yeah, it's a show made for girls and yeah, they happen to find it really enjoyable. Who cares?

I don't know how but they are. There are people out there jerking off to cartoon ponies. This is the reality we live in. You being pissed off at them for it isn't going to make it go away and it shouldn't go away because it's their personal business. And yes, it is ok because they aren't hurting anyone.

There are all sorts of fetishes that people can't ever practice IRL because it's impossible. Some people have a thing for being shrunk; for 20 feet tall partners, for mythological creatures, you get the idea. I don't really see why any of that is creepy or problematic, except to say that it's kind of unfortunate that they'll never be able to do it.

Whatever you need to tell yourself to justify that kind of behavior.

Come on, you don't think Faye Valentine is hot? Bullshit.

So what exactly is the problem here? They (and we're presumably talking about a small portion of bronies) aren't attracted to kids or animals. As you said, they're attracted to cartoons, so there's no potential for sexual assault. Furthermore, as one can have multiple sexualities, they could theoretically have a healthy relationship with a human being as well.

the target audience for most of that stuff is 18+ though while mlp is for 6 year old girls

Keep telling yourself that. Once again, I must direct you to the history books. I mean, at least wiki some of the things you're talking about.

Yes, and they're all fucking creepy. Well, that's the problem.

Adventure Time's target audience is roughly the same age range as MLP, for boys instead of girls, and doesn't seem to get anywhere near the same flak for college aged students watching it
