Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Nolan has been offered the San Francisco 49ers head coaching job and has accepted, and the sides now are negotiating a contract.

at first i was kind of disappointed because i wanted a big name to coach our team. but, the more i think about it the more i agree with this move. our offense is sheer garbage, but our defense is top 15 at least even when we're not healthy, so why not play to your strengths? we also need a disciplinarian coach cause we have so many young guys. erickson was a fucking LOSER in that regard. he let players eat hot dogs on the sideline during the game! fucking ricockulous.

anyways, thanks ravens, it is clear to me that it wasn't the personnel that made your D so great, but rather the coach. i look forward to another superbowl run this year

Keep the faith man, the last defensive coach that became head coach at SF has 5 SB rings.

Too bad they couldn't keep George Siefert there longer, but hell in the end he probably made the right choice in the long run considering Policy losing the team to his bitch ass sister (which still pisses me off)

Who Walsh ? I love the man for what he brought not just to SF, but to the NFL as well, but....... the poor guy has lost quite a few steps.

He was terrible at Stanford and hasn't really shown any ability to help get SF back on course since he rejoined several years ago.

he is no longer with our organization.

the last time bill walsh was used in the draft with our picks was the year 2000. guess how many offensive starters we have on the squad right now from that year? 7. bill walsh STILL knows football, i wish we could have him in the war room on draft day.

Hiring a defensive coach to save your team from going to prominence from the doldrums? Let me give you some visual aids of what happened to the last organization which had some great years, went into the tank, and tried to emerge back to glory with a defensive coach turned head coach:

7 ofensive starters on ANY other NFL offense would be a compliment, but 7 starters on arguably the Worst NFL offense isn't much of a compliment to his contribution. ;p

I personally would like Larry Ellison to buy the team. As much as I hate the man now, if he bought the niners, he would all of sudden be my favorite person in the world, especially since he seems to like football more then the current crappy owner.

Well with rumors indicating we might play a lot of 4-3 next year, a new defensive coach might not be a bad thing.

:lol :lol

and yeah CK...fucking prick. you have one team and you stick with them(like me and the bears) and you root for them no matter what. you don't start bandwagoning another team(like me and the colts). Sheesh. Idiot.

eh, it's not 7 offensive starters, its 7 starters period. i believe they are julian peterson, ahmed plummer, jeff ulbrich, john engleberger, tim rattay, brian jennings. that is only 6, but the 7th WOULD have been jason webster, however the falcons gave him a big contract to jump ship with mora jr. anyways, it was an excellent draft and i doubt many teams can look back on year X and say "ok we have 6 good starters from this draft", it doesn't happen that often.

I'm not... sheesh. I can't root any other teams in the NFL? I didn't get the memo. :(

I'm not saying you can't root for other teams, it's just that "we" isn't really a term used for a team that isn't your favorite I guess. BTW, who ELSE do you like? I think so far you root for San Diego, New York, San Francisco and (maybe) Atlanta (?) :p

Dsal

it's going to come out of you and it's going to taste so good
Staying healthy is the key.
Kinda wished they snagged a higher profile coach to show they are serious about spending the money they need to win again :(... but oh well.

I don't root for San Francisco tho, I was only in here to support FMT and his rooting for the Niners. I know what it feels like to have a bad team. :(

You want me to explain why I am having whatever I am having for breakfast tomorrow?

How could anyone take a defense with the likes of Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Terrell Suggs, Chris Mcallister and make them productive? How did he do that? He must be one hell of a coach.

haha, where's Flava Flav when I need him...

Walsh won't return to coaching because his wife is sick, and the road would not be good to him. He felt that with all the years winning, he regret not spending more time with his wife, and it would devastate him if something were to happen to her. This is the reason why he chose not to be the head coach of the Raiders last winter. He confirmed that he was offered the job, and was flattered, but he the only reason was because of his wife, so he claims.

Anyway, lord knows it's fucking horrible to see a team fall from glory so fast, so soon, but I hope you guys go at least 8-8 next year. :D

As a Niners fan, I hope we get some good draft picks this year ... and the owners stop being cheap asses. Never know, the Chargers pulled off a turnaround this year. IMO we should trade the #1 pick down and get two first rounders, or a bunch of other mid round or picks next year in exchange. There's no definate #1 pick coming out this year, we're better off just trading it.

I'm a niner fan as well, but I don't really trust the niners trading down picks; Unless the GM they hire will be someone who has proven himself in the league. They always (lately anyways) seem to trade down too low and end up getting players that are not helping the team at all. I just hope if they do down trade, they do a good job of it.

I'm not sure if this guy is a good coach, never really read about him... You can't really say he must be an awesome Defensive coach (because he has had players like Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Chris McAllister.. the team is stacked on defense). Maybe this will be the guy to help the niners turn around. Who knows? I just gotta have faith haha.
