Extremely Normal and Well Adapted Adults Go to COSTCO to Buy Pokemon Cards (for their kids, of course)

Most be a regional thing. I've seen Pokemon sets sold at Costco for $40 and they sit on a boring skid like any other product. No flash mobbing or anything.

Everyone involved wins conscription at the newly reopened Castillo de San Marcos star fort Florida. Let's see them scalp their way out of that.

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
These people ruin everything.

I collected Pokemon cards for a while. I wanted to get into the actual game, but I had no one to play with, but I still bought it for a little bit because I liked the art on some. When I bought a booster box, and got complete jack shit, I felt like this was just as bad as gambling. Decided after that, if I want a specific card, I'd buy it single. And if it's too expensive, fuck it.

Haven't bought any in a while though, because they just release new sets too damn often. There's like a new one every 2-3 months. Give it a rest. Jesus.

As someone into Pokemon I always tried to carry myself with some self respect and keep my PL low. Pokemon autism is something else, literally going insane over nostalgia. THE 151 THOUGH!!!

Why do they just throw them out there when there's that many people and let 1 guy buy 20? Have the dumbasses form a line and limit it to 1 or 2 per person. I hope someone gets hurt and sues the pants off Costco, abject retards handling it like that.

I hate scalpers but at the same time if nothing is put into place to stop these practices and there's a market for what they do then why wouldn't they do this for a 5x or more profit return? It's scummy but money talks, Costco, etc, don't give a fuck, they're selling the product, doesn't matter if someone buys one or 40 boxes.

Reselling cannot and should not be stopped (in general).

Retailers need to add restrictions, even if you can't stop it outright, some hurdles can help. I.e. a raffle limited to 1 product per winner that resets after a couple weeks (or opens up if stock is fine).

Also, ban idiots behaving like this. So embarrassing.

Should be on Costco to limited customers or have a queue or something. When I went to a couple console launches at my local Best Buy, one of the employees wrote our names down as we got in line and sold to us in that order. Probably a dozen other simple solutions that could be used.

Retarded to get in fights over money but if the profit on these is high enough you have to expect it to happen.

Pokemon cards are literally just gambling now.

That said, if you are actually into the game isn't there a positive angle to this ? The market seems to be flooded with cheap cards so it should be easier than ever to build a decent deck without spending a lot. From my understanding the price of the cards has more to do with rarity than how good they are in the game. Sometimes a card that does the same as a $800 one can be bought for $1 simply because it has different art or isn't holo.

I used to collect hockey cards when I was a kid. It was great fun and lots of people did it. Even when the cards were at the peak of their popularity this never happened back then. It’s a shame as I would argue that these items are primarily aimed at kids. It’s how we grow hobbies in the long term.

I’m not saying adults shouldn’t play or buy them or anything like that. Just that they should take kids fun into account.

Since when? Pokemon has always been the stronger brand. Youre right about MTG being gay though.
I’ve played both a lot. Pokemon is for kids with much stupider mechanics and simpler gameplay

Which is why it has much more mass appeal

If you check the tournament scene, you’ll see major differences in the ages between magic and Pokémon

We have the same problem in the UK.

My six year old nephew has recently got into Pokémon and I decided to get him a few packs for his Christmas stocking. Went to the local supermarket and could not believe the cards were locked up in security boxes. The large boxes with multiple packets also had large security tags locked onto them.

All of this because people steal them to flog them on Ebay to man-children.

It's the same with Lego. Remember when Lego used to be a kids toy that was reasonably priced? It's now become insanely expensive as it's an investment vehicle for adults.

Not sure why Costco didn’t have a limit on it. Having gotten Pokémon cards from Costco a few months ago and there was a limit.

Also, it’s still pretty easy to get Pokémon cards so this has no impact on the kids.

The police should have the power to just temporarily ban the selling of the sought after products on the spot for ocassions like this.

Pokémon evolve to new forms, the cards gave the tv show and games meaning, the collecting scene evolved by the measure of disorder for rare cards, PSA grades and release dates.

I threw out my whole collection as a kid because my pastor convinced me they had evil spirits.

Seeing graded cards go for good sums of money today makes me regret throwing my Pokémon collection away.
