LITTLE EGG HARBOR, N.J. -- A National Guard F-16 fighter jet on a nighttime training mission Wednesday fired 25 rounds of ammunition that tore through an intermediate school. No one was injured.

The military is investigating the incident that damaged Little Egg Harbor Intermediate School shortly after 11 p.m.

Police were called to the area when a custodian heard what sounded like someone running across the roof of the school. The custodian was the only person in the school at the time.

Police Chief Mark Siino on Thursday said police officers noticed punctures in the roof. Ceiling tiles had fallen into classrooms and there were scratch marks in the asphalt outside the building.

The 2-inch long bullets are made of lead and do not explode, said Col. Brian Webster, commander of the 177th Fighter Wing of the New Jersey Air National Guard.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Oh come on, if YOU were flying an F-16 in the middle of the night do you think you could resist taking a few potshots at your old stomping grounds...or perhaps that pesky next-door neighbor. Dude, I need to join the Air Force... :D

That's funny, but for all the wrong reasons. What the hell do you think was going through that guy's head? That's more than a small mistake. PEACE.

Well if its just 25 rounds that is easily just a flinch of the trigger finger. The M61A1 and m61A2 can fire 100 rounds in a single second. So this could indeed me a twitch or whatever.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.
surely the weapons are not ready to fire at a push of a button? I don't know anything about this, but I'd assume that you would need to take a step or two before the guns are ready to fire.

omg this used to be my dream when i was in public school. sometimes i hated my school so fucking much that I wished a Navy or Air Force jet would come and attack it. :lol :D

so when I read this story on Drudge (i was just about to post it here) I though to myself, too fucking cool.

glad no one was hurt though (see, im not totally inhuman)

Well..... as long as they do not explode.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. You'd think there'd be some sort of safety mechanism involved, otherwise you could accidentally fire off a few rounds by holding the stick too tight.

Could have been a malfunctioning safety and then the guy twitched and brrrrt... 25 rounds. Its such a small amount of time that it would have to be an accident of some sort because he could have burned through his entire magazine in a few seconds if he wanted to :)

Couple of other tidbits. The school is a scant few miles from a AirForce firing range. According to the flight log the plane wasn't pointed at anything particular when the gun fired. Parents at the school didn't even realize how close they were to the firing range (which is unbelievable).
