F.E.A.R. sequels in the works

Awesome news, I was wondering how this was going to work with VUG owning the name. Glad to hear it can still be done, and that VUG won't be a part of it anymore :D

I see the story states that they're hiring talented people to work on the sequels. Hire me please!!! :)

Eh. This is sort of good news I guess. I thought FEAR's combat engine was great, but the levels were so repetetive and boring that they might just as well included a random level generator with the game. I can't get too excited about a sequel to a game that got sort of boring towards the end.

yeah, FEAR's mechanics were good but the levels/stories/characters were so subpar compared to Condemned (sorry Francis)... hopefully a sequel to Condemened is on its way as well.

-Keep the brutal combat
-Keep the gore
-Keep kickass AI
-Keep the
bitching nuclear explosions. Nuke more cities, damn it!
-Keep the utterly bollocks creepiness of the cutscenes

-Put some level variety
-Make those offices more life-like and less sterile
-Make something good with the plot

And you'll have a classic.

Also, after you earn your deserved buttload of millions, buy back the Blood name and give this fanboy a proper sequel. Or he'll keep moaning on the internet =(

There is a sequel, its planned to be released in conjunction with the movie

Monolith is tailoring the sequels' content between the PC and console iterations. The practice of releasing IP on PCs first, then giving console versions a console-specific overhaul is becoming more and more common, as evidenced by Infinity Ward's Call of Duty franchise and Ubisoft's Far Cry franchise. Developers can use each platform's strengths and control schemes to deliver different experiences.

Well fuck me - YES!

Ryan said, "We believe that the PC audience is entirely viable and can support a game just as it did support F.E.A.R. To deliver the best quality title, the PC needs to be a focus. We believe that next-gen will also be awesome, but again, it has some differences and this is the approach that we're going to try."

DOUBLE fuck me, YES !!!

Say *NO* to dumbing down for the consoles! :D :D :D

Oh, and maybe they will call it FEAR 2, you know - without the dots.

God damn you guys should just copy and paste this shit from now on with all the FEAR threads that end the same way dont strain your fingers.

Great, the worst game monolith ever made gets a sequel. A new NOLF would have been so much better (especially considering their new engine).

NOLF is stuck in ownership hell. I think what was Fox Interactive owns it still or something like that.

Damn, hate when that happens. Thats kind of what I was afraid was going to happen to F.E.A.R. with Vivendi. But, looks like Monolith took care to make sure they had the rights to the more important parts of the game.

I think Silicon Knights should take note of that. :D

You know, I'm really starting to be annoyed by how EVERY SINGLE FUCKING GAME that sees even a modicum of success is now essentially plowed right into an obligatory sequel, and often a mere year later. I mean, they made a big deal about FEAR in particular being a new IP that managed to do well at retail, and about how much it meant to them to be working on new IP and how important it was, yet now they're just turning their new IP into the same regurgitated EA bullshit.

And the worst thing about it, is that the game is probably the most disappointing Monolith title released, imo, outside of Contract Jack.

If they ditch that horrid horror movie shit and make a pure balls out action game I'm all for it. FEAR was the least scary horror game I've ever played, and the pacing was seriously screwed by it as every time the action was really ramping up, your adrenaline is going, the game then stops and tries miserably to scare you with high pitched violin music.

You do realise that the point of generating a new IP is the hope that is successful enough to translate into a franchise? Seriously, thats business man.

I liked FEAR, and like others, I'd love to have more diverse environments and perhaps a more interactive environment on top of that.

I'm sure Monolith listens to the critique, and I'm hopeful they'll make adjustments based on that.

Do you have any clue how expensive a new IP is to get off the ground? Go take a business 101 class or something.

Do you think I'm speaking from the side of business, or the side of the actual creators? I'm talking about the fucking reason there is an industry, not the reason it makes money. I really don't think the developers were excited to be working on a new IP because it had the possibility of translation into money and sequels and franchise power.

I don't think Tim Schafer works on amazing, wholey original and unique content, title after title, simply because the games don't sell well enough.

Yeah, I'll get right on that.

Ugh. That people tell you to get a fucking degree in business when you're talking about videogames really speaks to the sad state that it has become in many respects.

Yes, hi.

I agree entirely. The pacing in FEAR was all messed up due to those poorly-executed horror elements and the amount of time that the player had to spend hitting switches and finding the right air duct to crawl through.

VUG owns the FEAR name, eh? What's with the money hungry publishers thinking that owning the IP will benefit them. VUG's already screwed Blizzard over in the WoW-money stakes, and screws most casual players with its substandard licensed drivel. I hope they suffer.

So you want the game to be even more damn derivative than what it is? The horror stuff was the only shred of anything original and interesting in the game.

I can't imagine it is a costly franchise. But Amen to that.
