Fable: Pre-Alpha Gameplay

Man why do these companies insist in making female characters so ugly? Her design is an abomination, there is no way around it

It's fucking ridiculous, I hope we can choose another character or something or that they make a character creator, I am having Mary Jane flashbacks from Spiderman 2 here
at least give us option to put helmet on that agley head........

Doesn't make what I said untrue. Either way, don't get snarky if you don't want someone to reply in kind. That's on you.

Devs have become infamous for creating characters that are poor representations of the actors/actresses. In this case, they simply should have choosen someone else to base their protaganist on. So yes, "bad character design".
Hope there's a paper bag cosmetic in the pre-order bonus or DLC.

Now that would be a parody!

Us gamers are so easily misled. So many here are saying how good it looks. It will not look like that, if it ever gets released. 100% pure bullshot. The main character is ugly. The graphics will get downgraded. The story will be ass. There is no guarantee you get to choose or make your main character. Every bit of media from this game shows the same ugly main character. The combat may be decent. Many here will defend the shit out of it when it comes out.

Playground doesn't bullshot anything. If it's in game footage it's in game footage, the engine is more than capable.

There will be no graphics downgrade.

The Fabler

Great choice to make a Witcher-like when it comes to action combat mechanics. I know that was everyone's favorite part of the game.

This post is a keeper. Let's see how it ages. I doubt anyone will remember in 2026. So you good to go.

🤷🏼‍♂️.
At this point, the word "downgrade" is kind of a misnomer. I think the way the final image is produced is almost completely detached from the actual quality and fidelity of the assets.

so, the game will look awesome regardless.

The visuals are the least challenging aspect Playground has on its hands

I think those graphics are accurately what we will get

I will be shocked if they can get it to run at 60fps on base consoles though

Looks like a 30fps game to me

A 40fps mode is all I need.

Bookmarked, I'll circle back to this on release date.

The footage looks pretty much in line with some of the better outputs of the generation so far. The character model and animations look worse than games like Hellblade or Indy.

I don't see why the footage looks like something not doable on current gen.

I'll give you a month of gold if it is. Playground delivers on footage every single time their games are absolutely gorgeous, can't wait to see what they can do when they don't have to juggle the physics of 20 cars smashing through destroying the environment bouncing into each other at 4K and just a person walking slowly kicking a chicken.

There's a reason naughty dog games look the way they do, because it's an extremely talented team and there's not much going on screen. I don't know why anyone would doubt the gameplay we have.

the funniest part is that this would actually be consistent with the tone of the game

was it Fable 1 or 2 where you are basically catfished by some bored asshole at the docks into getting the gayest haircut and wearing makeup and some other shit so that you can bang his daughter. after you do it, he says he has no daughter then makes fun of you for looking retarded. you then complete the quest. a paper bag as a reward would have been perfect

An open world RPG with physics simulation is infinitely more taxing than a racing game. It's crazy that you think this isn't the case.

Watched this again. There is something there. I can see it but it does need work. I understand the delay.

Make it special playground. Take your time. Whats the point in spending 5 years making a game to shit it out at a mediocre state.

I suppose you have to think they've had to re model a driving game engine into a fully operational action rpg engine. Id like to also add its so good seeing a custom engine in 2025. Hopefully the game does well enough for this engine to be used more within Microsoft studios.

Having this and machine games engine is a win for us all.

Needs some polishing out but the visuals are gorgeous. If you told me last-gen that Xbox would be leading the graphics showcases compared to Sony's first-party studios next gen I would have laughed at you but here we are.

I feel it is better to wait until we have more info or actually the game on our hands before complaining about woke stuff. All we have is a 50 sec slice of a game that is going to release next year. Many things change at the last moment( especially lighting) and lighting does for more for the aesthetics of a game than anything else.

People calling out for downgrades probably didn't played stuff like wukong (or they played on console).

I doubt the game is gonna even reach the level of the best ue5 game we already had, even more when you consider that it is a full fledged open world.

Graphical downgrade for this level of graphic is like my last problem with the game.

I mean its pretty but there's really not a game being shown there. All I see are small bits and pieces of what's likely a vertical slice. It looks like its quite a ways from being done which begs the question, what the fuck have they been doing for 5-6 years?

What are you talking about? That's the game, the world is built the mechanics are in there, it's in a refinement and polishing stage given the release is next year. Otherwise it would be 3 years off if they only had a "vertical slice" as you put it.

Seems like many are saying there already has been a downgrade from the "gameplay" clips they've shown in the past. I think it looks great, the main character isn't ideal and I hope we can still choose between male/female like we always could with the series in the past but if not I'm still very interested in the game.

That chicken shit was funny. I have this vague memory from when being a kid, seeing aunt rounding up chickens accidentally lopping off ones head and that chicken still walking without it.

I've never played a chick in a Fable game

can you bang other chicks or do u have to bang dudes

For someone like me that has never played a Fable game, this is the real question.

Edit: wasn't it in Fable 2 that the female character could get pregnant and have kids?

I'm genuinely confused by why people seem to just have to fuck every female character they play.
I think the answer is in your question.
Why do people seem to have to fuck every female character they play ? Why don't they just go and fuck real human beings like a normal person would do ?
silence of the lambs great big fat person GIF

Oh wait... Maybe they can't because they all are great big fat persons...

They'd have to bolt on features for a RPG, but there's a ton of stuff that carries over quite well from the Forza game. Playground already did the heavy lifting for vegetation in Forza Horizon 5, for example. And you can imagine they're well sorted for water. Day/night cycles, weather effects etc.

Why did they ditch the original art style?

Eh? It's the same art style.

Calling it pre-alpha is a shield against criticism. Lack of confidence.

Pretty much every developer indicates when their trailer is from a Work in progress build, and labeling trailers 'alpha' or 'pre-alpha' is common place.

Playing an attractive female character doesn't mean fucking it, it's about playing someone aesthetically pleasing for probably close to 50hrs+. This is not different argument than the one that made people roll Night Elves and afterwards Blood Elves in WoW…20 years ago.

But if we want to be really reductive - we can have top scars but no attractive female characters? Which playerbase is larger?

Forza Horizon isn't a contained track game knowing what needs to load next, every car is going through an environment destroying said environment on the fly at a much faster FPS while rendering of assets popping in and changing out by the millisecond.

if racing game simulations aren't as taxing as a regular third person title then we should be barrelling through environments as good as the TLoU.

She looks kind of hot in that let's-get-drunk-together way and I would rather have a character like that than a certain plastic fuck-doll many of you salivate over.

Honestly I also find her quite pretty. Kind of natural, everyday girl beauty.
I guess people are making fun of her because of that one picture of the reveal (I think). And also because she's not as hot as Eve or 2B.

In the reveal, her face is intentionally designed to look its most unflattering. Pay attention to what the narrator is saying about heroes at that moment, it's emphasizing that heroes don't always fit the familiar tropes we expect, with beauty being one of them. That seemed to have gone over a lot of heads, so every time someone posts a criticism about her looks I look at them like...

Yeah, sure.

Personally I'm fine with the way she looks. It's not like I find Ciri from the Witcher 4 trailer that attractive either. I think that virtually any game that allows you to see your character, specially in 3rd person, should have a face editor. It doesn't need to be a "RPG" to benefit from that, but average Jow as well as devs are stuck on genre convention mentality. There are a few exceptions in which I don't miss the feature, but frankly they are rare.

Youre missing the overall picture. Details have to be a lot more granular. Granular includes, AI being more complex, interior/exterior environment detail, and character/monster/npc/object interactions. All these systems interacting tax the overall hardware much more.

Racing games dont have to worry about this in detail. Stop to look at buildings and objects in Forza Horizon, theyre simplistic in nature and hollow in interaction. Forza Horizon is focused on performance. NPC and traffic routines are as simply as they come following a path when racing (like a closed circuit racer). There is a reason why even a Rog Ally handheld can hit 60+ FPS in FH5 with the right settings. Try doing that with a game like Hogwarts Legacy.
