Fable

I am surprised that after 50 comments nobody has really stressed how brilliant the music was in Fable. While I was underwhelmed by Elfman's main theme, the rest of the score was wonderful. Specifically I'm thinking of the town music and some of the musical pieces toward the end of the game. The soundtrack cd was released last tuesday and you can scoop it off of Amazon for $14.

I can see why it's such a loved / hated game. Personally, I love it. I wasn't planning on getting Fable last year, but when Fry's was selling it for $38 I had to try it out. I was oblivious to most of the pre-release hype so when I popped it in my Xbox I didn't have ridiculously high expectations. Of course the game is short (14 1/2 hours on my first playthrough), but the replay value makes up for it in a way. I would have liked to have seen more areas and more items as well. Overall it's an outstanding, but very flawed game.

The one thing that bothered me is that choosing to be good or evil didn't REALLY change much other than how people reacted to you. Yes there are a few instances, but a lot of times they completely forgot to change what some people said if you were evil or not.

For example, when you're evil, people run and scream from you, and say hello to you nervously. But there's that one guy sitting on a bench that asks you if you want to marry your daughter. He tells you, normally, how she likes this haircut, and how he thinks you'd be a good match for her. The second the conversation ends though, he starts screaming and running away from you :lol

"The music sounds like something out of a Tim Burton movie" - my friend when watching me play. I'm inclined to agree... music in Fable was definitely one of its high points.

Different strokes for different folks. Is that the saying?

I *hated* Fable. Put in about 6 hours and I kept waiting for it to get better. Finally quit playing when I got to the mission where you had to sneak past some enemies and get past some gate. I kept getting caught. Really shitty game imo.

You should've changed into dark clothing and used the bow to snipe them when one was isolated from the rest.

rofl. The gate?

I just got caught a few times, ran behind a huge rock next to the gate and when the next pass of guards came, I just waited for them to walk past me and I ran in.

The core game is too short, too easy and too simplistic. All the interesting parts aren't integrated well into the main game, and for the most part don't affect the game much. Most of the missions consisted of me steering my character to the next exit, and then fighting some pushover boss. Only two missions (the infiltration and the prison) were interesting.

I kinda enjoyed it, and don't regret renting it, but for some reason the game felt like the exact opposite of epic.

I loved it. My first play through lasted 35 hours. I walked everywhere and pretty much tried to do everything you can possibly do in the game. I imagine I'll play through it again sometime on the light side.

I can see how people were disappointed in the game. I was extremely linear and there was a ton of stuff cut.

felt about the same.. the atmosphere and music were great

the game was way to simple though, especially mission-wise.. the missions were kind of grand-theft style.. no large dungeons

my biggest complaint is that the good/evil-system sucks.. you cannot complete the quests in more than one way (there are small exceptions).. for example.. when you rescue the boy in the cavern, there isn´t even an option NOT to rescue him (the obvious evil choice)

I'm 22 hours in and am loving it,I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes their time with a game like Fable.

And yeah-that damn combat multiplyer quote rings through my head man,its like I hear it in my sleep.

So better then 90% of PS2 and GC games this year then.

2004 was an exceptionally good year for all consoles, Fable shouldn't even be given a pity entry into top 10 of the year list.

I loved Fable and if it wasn't for WoW it would of been my goty last year. It was a very fun game and it was rewarding to try different types of characters and to see your character change based on the decisions you made. I also really loved the art style, music, and setting. In fact, the first time I played fable I started at 8:00 AM and didn't stop playing until 11:30 PM.

The game ozzed charm. Absolutly loved the art, everything felt organic, hardly any corners or straight lines. Beautiful game
