Mao hardly had any backstory in season 1 so I guess they needed to bring him back and besides, I never thought for once that he died.

Lain pretty much summed up my feelings but overall, I still enjoyed it as much as season 1 and would love to see season 3 with more Hei with his powers back.

I like my chinese batman but electric chinese batman is much better.

Did he really need any though? I don't feel it added anything to his character.

Not like we'll ever get an answer to the exact details of how he managed to hang around.

I'm pretty sure it is only 2 episodes, and that's the problem. It's been a while since I read the manga, but there's way more stories than just 2. I personally would have liked a full series instead of 2 OVAs, but judging by a lot of the comments and scores it's getting on various anime sites from viewers, I'm one of the few people who'd appreciate something like that.

And I forgot how I got my hands on the manga, tbh. I'm sure it's out there somewhere.

Yeah, the manga is licensed... but came out 10 years ago. It looks to be out at the various usual places though.

I would have liked to see more stories adapted as well, but this is better than nothing. At the very least, I can see why a hard SF anthology would be pretty much anathema for most anime fans. :lol

Sora no Otoshimono ended :(

I haven't felt this sense of emptiness from watching the last ep of a series in a long time :( Vol 1 DVD and Vol 8 manga can't come soon enough :|

Is it that good? I have ep 1 but haven't watched it yet. This is the show with flying panties in the credits right? :lol

^
Yeah, that's the one. :lol

Well, I'll say that it's... better than Kampfer? Although dude turns into a lady at one point too. Then again, I suppose I appreciate the fact that he turns into a girl just out of perversion rather than anything else.

Sora no Otoshimono is terrible, but so terrible it's sometimes funny. The credits change with each episode and are totally ridiculous. I can't stand what they do with the main character, alternating his art between some adolescent and prepubescent child, drives me fucking batty. I also hate the fact that it has Angels, or a reasonable facsimile of them, made to kill people and instead makes them do stupid shit. For some reason anything with Angels, or beings that resemble them, that kill shit is a great thing and this show teases it but constantly puts that idea aside for tits and ass. It's got such a weird vibe that ranges from morbid and on the precipice of an apocalypse to carefree perversion.

And it also has my most hated anime staple of all time, that's when some kind of totally off the fucking wall shit happens to the main character, they act like nothings different and go to school the next day. Like in Asura Cryin', I mean, the dude has a ghost, meets a demon, gets a giant robot and fights another giant robot in his house and it's like "eh" I guess this is what all 15 year olds go through, no sense in asking everyone else if they have giant robots, ghost familiars and demons. Same thing with Sora no Otoshimono, everyone just accepts it. Oh, you got an Angel slave, cool. Sigh.

But for some reason I still watch the fucking show and laugh and rage at the same time.

It might be a Japanese thing, but I thought it was this season's best. The term "source material rape" kinda flies around rampant in Japanese message boards for a lot of series, but this one mixed and matched various manga episodes from different timepoints and kept the atmosphere and flow of the series extremely well. The series strikes a very good balance between slice of life comedy, story progression, and oddly enough, some touching moments.

The story's nothing too terribly special; pet droid with wings falls from the heavens, accidentally becomes the protagonist's servant, and the daily hijinks that results from that, an emotionally dead servant growing emotions, and some SF aspects from where the pet droid's from. It's just presented in a well rounded package.

The animation quality is pretty good and stays extremely consistent through all 13 episodes. Different ED song for almost all episodes, and ED animation is different as well. A lot of small touches here and there really shows that the staff and cast are enjoying working on it as well.

If you're a bit squeamish about ero, then you might want to stay away but...it's in between Rosario + Vampire and Fight Ippatsu Juudenchan in terms of perversion. Ironically, it's a "healthy" sense of it. Remember back in the days when you were a kid, you and your buddies shared issues of playboy, wanted to peep into girl's locker rooms (or atleast talked about it), etc? It's that kind of perversion. (One of the heroines is equally as perverted, just doesn't show it for the most part)

Ok been out of the Anime scene for a bit, was wondering if there are any really funny series this fall? Looked at the opening and nothing interested me at all, but really would like a good comedy.

You should stick with Eden, it gets really good later on.

Maria + Holic is a very good harem comedy.

Summer Wars is a movie but worth a watch.

Trapeze 11, is out, WHAT AN AMAZING ENDING.
EDIT: It's the type of ending that makes you want to watch the entire series again.

an interesting series for sure (not as captivating as mononoke though). it took a few episodes for me to realize the stories had overlapping time lines, and then to watch how the patients are related to each other was quite nice.

kinda wondering, was irabu always the vice-chairman? of the hospital? if so, it kinda says how good he really is, to have gotten that position, even though he's always acting like a goofball.

watch astro fighter sunred.
about a sentai hero who's frustrated by not being challenged enough by the baddies he's supposed to clash with.

Hmm Think I'll look into Maria x Holic too it's by shaft.
Also if you haven't already Natsu no Arashi is a great comedy. (shaft too)

If it hasn't already been discussed but Denpa teki na Kanojo OAV is pretty good if you like murder mystery/thrillers.

Umm...What's this I'm hearing about the director of DTB2 saying there won't be a season 3 and that season 2's ending 'settled' things? :lol

Well based on season 2's "ending" I'm going to go ahead and say he's crazy and/or a massive troll.

Studio Staff comments are NOTORIOUS for being vague and never really putting facts down,
so the death of Yin
, and the death of the series should NOT be taken seriously until more evidence comes out agreeing with the director.

Not to mention with the anime industry itself suffering from financial loss, especially this year, and anime like DtB that is apparently looking like it will sell well is something the higher ups at Bones cannot look past.

They might not want to reveal an S3 too early yet, especially seeing as how S2 wasn't even mentioned until a year or less ago.

in other words

I loved how the mental disorders starting to be visualized in the final 3 episodes, that was just amazing.

Nyan Koi!!

I don't know, Nyan Koi starts out really funny but by episode 6 it falls back on harem bullshit. and towards the end you're watching just hoping the writers remembered to write a cat or two into the story.
If you haven't watched all of them, The Zetsubou Sensei series never fails to diaapoint.

Nyan Koi definitely started decent and then went down hill pretty quick, by the first half Nagi's character was totally fruity, Nagi was cooler in the first half, the twins stayed cool throughout but yeah, it devolved into standard harem fare in the second half, pretty weak.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei though, I'd have to disagree, I feel it's just been on this downward slope, I think the first season was the best, followed by the second and then the third. Don't get me wrong, I still think bad SZS is better than most shows good episodes but it's just been going downhill, I hope it takes a long hiatus myself. I'm not too far in the translated manga but if the anime's followed it remotely closely then a lot of what I liked about SZS is pretty much gone as the progression of the characters is something you just can't really turn the clock on, so I guess season 1 is the height of the series for me.

Natsu No Arashi!'s first season was really good, please make it past the first episode which was the weakest in the season before making a final judgment but I think season 2 was weaker than the first. Season 2 had a few good gems but a lot of season 2 seemed like season 1 recycled. But season 1 can't be recommended enough and season 2 wasn't bad, just not as awesome as the first.

Of all the sequels I've seen these past few years Spice and Wolf was the only one to me that felt consistent

But since we're talking comedies my picks are SZS, Nyan Koi(Some episodes were really good), Seitokai no Ichizon, and Natsu no Arashi.

A bit OT maybe, but anybody care to give me advice on a decent show? It's been a long time since I saw one and I'm looking for a rather serious one -- think SAC or Patlabor 2 or something like that.

Kaiba might be up your alley. It has really mature and good science fiction writing, even though the art designs are kiddy. Don't let that fool you; it's dark as shit.

I second Kaiba. If you can accept the art design and watch the first few episodes, I think you'll enjoy its story and find a wealth of themes. Plus, it's not licensed yet (sadly).

Nyan Koi was kind of funny, but it started to wear on you when the main character was far too interested in the wrong type of pussy, even knowing the risk to his own health.

Yeah, I thought Nyan Koi was pretty good initially. Forcing a dude who has a violent cat allergy to be a servant to cats was a good concept. Then it became "hey, look how every girl in town wants to fuck this guy. Oh, and every now an then we'll throw in a cat or two".
