It's just a made-up hipster term, like "moe" or "Despera."

... That's just not right. :(

That does actually look like a guy crossdressing, doesn't it...

about old stuff:

Oh! My Goddess (OVA)- 1

oh! my lovely, lovely goddess!

I know how I called Oh! My Goddess a manga for girls back in the 90s. I was so wrong. But in my defense I was young and silly. Now, I'm still silly but not young anymore, so I love this stuff so much.

I even love the stupid opening:

She's crying because you're actually watching that show... you were right before, I think!

I didn't like AMG much at all. The movie was actually okay, but the series... ugh. It's so sappy and stupid, and the plot is so bad...
Also, I know they try to explain it away later with "they knew eachother as children actually, etc", but I find the idea that she loves him because he wished for her to love him disturbing.
Of course though, given the genre, it's not like their relationship actually ever gets very far.

I'm not sure what other criteria you need for a good mecha fight besides being well animated. In general, fight scenes in mecha animes subscribe pretty regularly to the Rule of Cool, so if you completely ignore everything other than how cool it is, well animated goes a long way toward ensuring the fight is awesome. Everything good about a good mecha fight scene ultimately boils down to how well animated it was and how cool it was.

I guess if you're Hipster-AnimuGAF you also require them to be hand-drawn instead of CG, but this is one show where the CG actually looked like they put an effort to make it blend in with the hand-drawn elements and it wasn't jarring every time you saw a transition from 2D to 3D.
I do agree, IS had pretty solid CG. You're right that they made them pretty flashy in terms of style, it did show how much budget the show got. The actual fights, though... some were better than others. Also, when plot interrupted it could get stupid.
The whole thing with Houki in ep. ... 11, I think it was, where she was going to shoot despite that unauthorized ship being in the target area... was SO STUPID!

I get the feeling they just felt like they needed to stuff the flashback in there somewhere because it was supposed to be like important or something. There's a right way to handle a flashback and a wrong way, and this show actually managed to do it wrong several times. And they did it just to add some background story. Because, you know, people give a shit about character development in this kind of show. Wait.
They needed to come up with a way to explain her backstory, why she likes him, etc, yeah. but that whole flashback just did not work, at all. At All. It's not that people don't want any character development, it's that when the only character development you have is that badly handled, people stop caring, I think...

Episode 3 was really stupid too, because they deferred the fight until episode 4. And in this show, when I call a particular episode stupid, that means it's even more stupid than the whole rest of the show, which is actually saying a lot when I'm talking about IS.
Well yeah, that last point is a given.

Well that sucks for her then, because it's clear that Ichika is already married to his Chifuyu-nee as the OVA also makes hilariously clear.
That is true, but that's not a romantic relationship (for now anyway), just a ... very close ... sibling relationship, so the rest of the harem is hoping that they can convince him to be with one of them too. The question about whether they have a chance, compared to his sister, is a good one though. I mean, she's kind of hard to match, and that stuff in the OVA about him jumping to get her drinks when she came in was kind of amusingly stupid, compared to how he treated the others. But he thinks that's normal sibling behavior, apparently, so they still have a chance, right?

Of course, what they don't know is that in this genre nobody ever wins, but hey, it's not likely that they would know that bit.

Sure, but Taichi's emotional baggage makes him a jerk.
That's true, and I agree I don't like him much either, yes.

We wouldn't be fangirls if we didn't have shipping wars!
I guess so?

Chihayafuru ep 11
DO THE BARREL ROLL!!

Oh Taichi, you sneaky bastard. You took advantage by hugging chihaya when she's knocked out.

horizon - 11

Hilarious episode.

After watching like six episodes total I can safely say that Neito definitely has the worst design out of the bunch, and not even Marina Inoue can save it:

I don't quite know where to start with how bad it is - maybe the hair. Her power is pretty rad though.

But rocket hair!

Why wouldn't you watch anime on your main TV? Dumb question, I know.

It gets used a lot for basically everything else (PS360, some PC stuff when we're not too lazy, actually watch TV, etc.) so most my anime watching is done on my monitors.

That and laziness, probably. Somehow.

These posting accelerations at the end of the previous thread and start of the new one are exhausting, but I'll read it all!

I know you're joking, but on a more serious note, the amount of times someone posts in a thread has no bearing upon their importance within it, or on the quality of the contributions they make. For example, /XX/ has an extremely low post count, but the content of his posts are, for the most part, excellent.
That is quite a compliment, Jexhius. Thanks!

Now I feel the pressure to always post something interesting.

Yo apruebo la idea de hablar más en castellano por estos lares. ¡La verdad es que no hay idioma más bonito y rico en vocabulario con el que insultar al personal!

I don't have time to do the whole thing but this article talks about how Hosoda and Yuuichi Sato (producer for Summer Wars and Piano no Mori) built the studio and how they said it was "a very small studio, the best form to make good works"
I've seen comments stating that this Studio Roadmap is only a provisional one, specifically established to only handle the task of making this project. Is there any clear information on that?

Howl's Moving Castle

what the fuck was that
As said previously, I find it a little aimless but, like in a costumbrist representation of a typical day-to-day life, I always thought that went very well to see in an appropriate pace how Sophie longed and searched for her place in that world, and how in that way she helped other characters to find their true identities, until the all-over-the-place and sudden conclusion.

I haven't read the book it is based on, though, but I accustomed to create a disconnection between the original sources and the adaptations because every person sees a work by his own light, and that can also be beneficial, of course.

The article didn't make it sound like the studio was provisional. It sounded like Hosoda and Sato decided that they wanted their own studio so they made one.

Cajunator, why on earth did you buy Melody of Oblivion?! Have you seen the last four episodes?

Now that someone might actually watch Midori on account of my recommendation, I feel bad for making it, even in jest. And the only thing I know about Morro! is Revolutionary Girl Utena is his favorite animu, which just makes it worse. It's the equivalent of surreptitiously leading a blindfolded comrade into a dark alley wherein they are summarily assaulted by a group of deformed circus freaks.

He should totes watch the rest of them, though. Except Odin.

I bought Melody of Oblivion because it is JC Staff and I liked the music a lot.
I havent actually seen the show though.

Its because of the last 4 eps that everyone should experience Melody of Oblivion. The show was pretty much "what if Utena was a train wreck". Then they get to the end and just say "screw it, spankings all around!". It was amazing.

That ... that actually makes me curious enough to seek it out.

For some, that reason is why people would stay away.

That sounds Hidan no Aria kinds of amazing.

I love JC Staff shows:

Metal Fighter Miku (1994)
Revolutionary Girl Utena (1997)
His and Her Circumstances (1997) (in collaboration with Gainax)
Excel Saga (1999)
Little Snow Fairy Sugar (2001)
Ai Yori Aoshi (2002)
Azumanga Daioh (2002)
Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna (2002)
Nanaka 6/17 (2003)

Karin (2005)
Shakugan no Shana (2005)
Honey and Clover (2005)
Mahoraba ~ Heartful Days ~ (2005)
Zero no Tsukaima (2006)
Potemayo (2007)
Zero no Tsukaima: Futatsuki no Kishi (2007)
Shakugan no Shana II (2007)
Slayers REVOLUTION (2008)
Zero no Tsukaima: Princesses no Rondo (2008)
Toaru Majutsu no Index (2008)
Toradora! (2008)
Hayate the Combat Butler: Second Season (2009)
Taishō Baseball Girls (2009)

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! (2010)
Bakuman (2010)
Toaru Majutsu no Index II (2010)
Yumekui Merry (2011)
Bakuman Season 2 (2011)
Shakugan no Shana III (2011)
Zero no Tsukaima Final (2012)

I enjoyed (or in the case of the sequels would probably enjoy) all of the above.

JC Staff is a mediocre studio. You know what you'll get from them. While they might not produce outright crap like Deen, you won't get anything particularly mind blowing either. They are pretty vanilla.

I love JC Staff shows as well. Though I'm in the camp of hating the fact that it's JC Staff doing them; they keep getting the stuff I want to see animated :(

But, hey, it's not Deen. I'm still a bit sad at Umineko's treatment. "A bit."

That MOO video was GLORIOUS.
I have made the correct decision.

Also I already listed a bunch of Deen shows I enjoyed before so I dont need to do that again.
Its kind of interesting how many of the shows in my collection or that I have enjoyed are on everybodys bad list.

Chihayafuru 11

The barrel roll was phenomenal. This show hasn't had a single disappointing episode so far and I can't wait to see Taichi shedding tears as Chihaya and Arata get together
for a game of karuta.

Last Exile Fam 09:

I absolutely love this show to death. It's like this episode was made for firehawk12, the only thing it's missing is chicks slapping each other silly in the name of love.

Gizelle finally taking off her clothes (figuratively) and revealing her feelings of jealousy of Millia to Fam. Now the 3 can share in yuri feelings of friendship. It was a really well done episode built around a relatively simple premise, reuniting the 3 girls together. This show does an absolutely amazing job running through the gamut of emotions, through frivolousness times to the more serious moments all within the same episode.

The
hockey
stuff was fun. Totally filler but again drives home the premise of the episode to the fullest. It's a character development episode through and through and it does a good job of it while at the same time having the charm, the cuteness and fun that this series likes to have at times.

But more importantly than all of that,
HELL YEAH VINCENT IS BACK. WHOO WHOO WHOO.

Oh! My Goddess (OVA) - 4

AssaK.gif

The OVA Belldandy is a little crybaby but I like the added drama elements. After my Oh! My Goddess manga marathon it is nice to see an OVA with some creative freedom.

[Chihayafuru]
It's like you never watched past the third episode.

His hatred for Taichi just burns strong, that's all. I can't blame him as well know Mr. Blue Eyes is the true karuta master, Taichi just can't keep up. Chihaya will clearly chose her mate based on karuta, like many women before her.
Still makes me mad. Taichi is always there for her, supporting her, advising her, helping her, it's almost like he's getting massively friendzoned . . . aw shit.

Chihayafuru is actually trying to teach us all useful life lessons, if only we'd listen.
Fucking Niku. :(

They're just too busy with hardcore karuta training!

That's what happens when you're in a faux-sports series rather than a romance series.

Wait, characters don't get together in romance shows either. Hmm.

The TV series is great. Expands on the OVAS and according to everything Ive read, it follows the manga pretty closely. There are two seasons worth of it. I dontl ike the OP/ED as much though.

I know at least one other person here probably watches Morita, I see the avatar from time to time. I kinda like it, not particularly funny I suppose but it's short enough that I'm not really making a big commitment in watching it every week. I really need a new Azumanga, which was aired in a similar manner.
