Man I'd never leave you astray. Hope you weren't thinking otherwise. It's in my top 10 of the year.

General thoughts on C3 (after watching episode 8)

This is such an odd show through and through. This show reaffirms all my love for SHAFT. It's SHAFT-lite to the fullest, it really reminds me of both ef series in a lot of ways in terms of art (which is a good thing), with the mashup of another genre only nowhere near as good as either of the ef series. It's also a lot like Bakemonogatari in how they try to go about the fights and general camera work, but again it's just a really poor version of what works in that series.

Where the show completely falls apart is in the story itself. They forgot to make the viewers actually care about or have any kind of interest in the characters or the story or the theme of the show in itself. They blew that first episode just to get to the "twist" and forgot to actually build the show up to that point, it's been that half-assed vibe from the beginning to where I'm at now from that standpoint.

But most egregious of all it's most of all like Dantalian. A show that has a lack of focus, it's really a bit aimless and pointless lacking any kind of central theme. They introduce these different factions but really have done nothing since and it's kind of just meandering and wandering all over the place.

I detest and hate this show, a lot. It is such a disappointment because it could have been something good. Even with all that said I can't say it's been a total waste of my time since there have been a few moments here and there that I generally enjoy but in turn it just reaffirms all my disappointments with this series.

Sket Dance 37

Whelp, that's the end of Himeko's back story. It was good, but not amazing or anything. It hasn't retroactively altered the perception of her character like Switch's did. It also didn't really feel complete. Should I read the equivalent manga chapters?

Anyway, now begins the long wait for Bossun's back story.
Nah, they're about as underwhelmimg as I imagine the eps were. Switch's set a standard that only an arc two since it have managed to reach, Himeko's wasn't one of them. :(

Attempting to compare anything favourably to LoGH, even some of its spinoffs, feels unfair.

If the comparison invites itself, I'll make it.

And you haven't even gotten to the best part. Speaking of this show, I watched episodes 5-9, and while there were some hilariously great moments, both narrative and execution feel a little lacking compared to the first four episodes. Episode 9 in particular had a "That was it?" feeling. I hope the show can pull back to the quality it started with before it finishes.

Aw isn't that precious my butler has made a friend. *pats your head* Welcome into my servitude new maid.

Let me be clear about this.

"I'm not your maid! YOU are MINE!"

"I'm not your maid! YOU are MINE!"

Silly peasant, I am your Ojou-sama and I demand that you show me the respect I rightfully deserve as such. Otherwise my hand will be forced and I will have my butler put you into your place as my maid. You can be a tsundere maid, it's fine with me as long as you realize your place in my majestic household.

Let me be clear about this.

"I'm not your maid! YOU are MINE!"

Now now, let's not be hasty. If you would be still for just a moment so I can measure for your maid uniform.

*measures*

Hm, we're going to need a custom make. A little less around the bosom, a little thinner around the hips as well. I shall commence work immediately.

Real life me has to go to sleep now. Until later.

Guilty Crown 10
tumblr_lw9wqfBEqy1qfz87fo1_500.gif

My crying eyes, that was an emotional episode.
Shu's breakdown and fear and pity trip to saying goodbye to Inori was so much. It was touching that she did admit she may have love for Shu though. But Gai already getting to a state of near death already, I thought it wouldnt happen until halfway through the season, Shu shall have big shoes to fill if there is no way to stop the music. Ultimately, cant wait for him to meet up with Inori and bring back the high climax action

Plotwise, Kenji could have at least had a bigger role as well as Daryl. New character sitting on the window ledge is a cool addition. Plot has reached over the top surprising heights, I love it
.

I wish we could fast forward to next thursday.

Going back to the guy who died first in Guilty Crown . . .

rCrbHl.jpg

. . . why was he there? Aren't the Gaibros ostensibly fighting for Japanese freedom or some shit like that against the foreign devils? Did they put in a black guy for no reason at all just to kill him off in lieu of named cast members?

I will miss that nameless black guy. In my mind I am creating a fake backstory for him.

But virtually everyone liked Blood-C here...

No, virtually everyone dropped it three episodes in, but picked it up again much later.
Still debating whether or not to getFate Zero boxzet.
I can afford it but is it really worth 350 bucks?
Will there be a cheaper release?

Of course it isn't. That price is absurd.
Kaiji Ball Z (Season 2)

So many episodes with singular developments. This show would have been vastly better at 13 episodes.

The very first arc of season 2 IS like 10 episodes, and it's far better that way. The second part just takes forever.

Daily Lives of High School Boys (Preview 5-6)

Oh man they made more of these.
This is going to be such an awesome show.

Yeah I watched those 2 pv's earlier, really funny. All of them have been great stuff. Definitely one the shows I'm most looking forward to for next season.

Un-Go Ep10

This show is crazy and I can't wait to see how it ends. I still can't honestly tell if it is a bad show or a good show, but I'm leaning on bad show which I am enjoying a shitload for unknown reasons. It's just nuts.

Guilty Crown Ep10

Now at least with this show I can comfortably say it is a fucking bad show. The characters are all repulsive, the drama is bad, the comedy is flat, and a lot of the story themes are insulting to the audience because they're so moronic. Looks like they're going for a BAD END mid-season climax or something. But really... who cares? Lol.

Guilty Crown wishes it could be half as stupid and dumb as Un-Go, but it's nowhere close.

[Kaiji Season 2]

The really could have trimmed it back further, but then they wouldn't have a full 'run' for the show, I suppose.

Yeah they easily could have shaved off a good 4 episodes if they wanted to. I assume that by padding it out for the full 26 episodes it helps them get their money's worth out of the show when it comes to selling media down the road. I still enjoyed the bog arc a lot though despite all the time wasting.

What's odd though is that iirc, they cut out some stuff in the manga that happened in between the end of S1 and the beginning of S2. I don't understand why they didn't use that material if they wanted 26 episodes. The bog arc in the manga is probably pretty slow as well, but surely they could have edited that down a bit and put some fluff elsewhere rather than all at the end.

It's definitely jarring because it makes Kaiji look a thousand times more badass than the way he was portrayed at the beginning. It also showed the repercussions of his actions in part 1, making it not a total downer ending and actually setting himself as a major force to oppose Hyoudo.

Daily Lives of High School Boys PV 5-6

One thing I'm loving about this is the fact each character is taking turns being the straight man. Depending on the day, they all have the potential to either be total idiots or relatively reasonable.

[Penguin Drum 23]

Sure is Penguin Drum in here.

Do you remember the period in this shows run where it couldn't get it's act together artistically and the direction was kind of weak? Yeah, I'm pretty glad we're beyond that point because if those things were a problem again the show would be in trouble, especially considering the kind of events that are unfolding now.

By which I mean, they're putting a lot of scenes that have very different tones and looks, which could all have gone horribly wrong if the production wasn't up to scratch.

I actually think Level E was one of those rare examples when pretty much everyone who watched it (and there must have been about nine people in this thread doing so) seemed to enjoy it. Considering that comedy is perhaps mire subjective than anything else, I feel that's fairly noteworthy. Azazel-San was the same way.

Penguins Drumming 23: The episode kind of lost me when
Ringo had a nearby source of water to put off the fire
, but other than that it resonated very well. I do feel something for these characters, and seeing them put in crossroads like this does move me. Even when the animation wasn't up to the standards it set itself I never felt like these characters were uninteresting, boring or melodramatic to the point of obnoxiousness. And considering how many elements are not explained outright to the viewer it is a relief to have something like their characterisation to lie on.

For a moment there I thought the climax would hinge upon
Ringo having to save either Himari or Shouma
, but thankfully that wasn't the case. Penguindrum may have its problems, but it was never predictable. I'm eager to watch the finale.

I'm pretty sure the, err, explosion, caused her some difficulty moving and getting up again. It's not like the show hasn't had parts where logic is scarified for symbolism, but it makes a lot more sense here, I feel.

They could have done a better visual representation of her
immobility
in that case, but it is such a minor nitpick I don't want to put too much emphasis on that. I totally dug the rest of that scene and can forgive some leaps of logic (like the thing with the cable in a previous episode) for the great character drama.

Penguin drum 23:

What the fuck I thought kanba killed shouma at first what actually happened did he just knock him out? with a whack to the head?

Penguin Drum 23

It always has to be about instrumentality, doesn't it?

sanetoshi.jpg

Rather than magnificent bastard, I think we can call him a fabulous max bastard.

This episode had really good direction, which is nice since it's the penultimate episode. There were a number of very visually striking scenes, including
Shouma and Ringo in the snow, and the entire scene with Shouma and Himari in the hospital/dream world.
There's still a lot left unexplained so far, so I'm going to guess we won't get all of the answers we want. I sure would like to know
what Sanetoshi and the Takakuras were doing with the penguins in Antarctica,
though.

Penguins 23

only one episode left ;____;

looks like momoka really was the hats after all

he was shot with one of those ball things. you can see what's left of it when he regains consciousness

Penguin drum 23 - Really awesome episode - great mood, direction, tone etc, but I'm feeling fairly disconnected from the series on a emotional level, I simply don't give a shit about any of the characters or their "inevitable" fates, I honestly care more about the characters in Hanasaku iroha then I care about the characters in penguin drum.>:

Reminds me of Madoka except I find the themes, direction and stuff of PD to be far more stimulating and entertaining, plus PD isn't ugly stylistically; unlike madoka!

This is hilarious considering just how rude the Crystal Princess was to Ringo when they confronted each other.

Stupid Kanba didn't know he had to
go for the headshot. He's fucked up in the case there's a zombie apocalypse.

maybe the curse split her tsun and dere apart with the hats...??

kanba implied he was waiting for shouma in the train so maybe it's a part of his master plan

So what you're saying is

Mari Okada > Ikuhara

Depends on what you like.

What kind of stuff did you like? I don't wanna recommend you something like Madoka if you absolutely abhor lolis.

Is this supposed to be subliminal messaging?

I'll do what I always do when someone asks for recommendations without any stipulations whatsoever: Check out these two threads and knock yourself out.

As others have said, gotta find out your tastes first. What did you watch in college?

I like all of Satoshi Kon's stuff. His movies and Paranoia Agent. I loved Kino's Journey. I loved Ghost in the Shell: SAC. I enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain. Someone told me to watch Mushishi. I also started watching Baccano but I couldn't make it through it. It never held my interest.
