I seem to recall quite a few people calling it boring for a decent chunk of the early parts of the series, possibly even the entire first half. I vaguely remember Jexhius and a few others putting it in their top 10, but around the low end due to the uneventful early episodes. The praise for the series seems to have increased exponentially since then, so maybe it was better in retrospect based on later developments?
I wouldn't know, I never watched it and don't really intend to.

It bugs me too. I found Hyouka to be an incredibly boring show. Well made but I thought it was extremely boring and thus I didn't enjoy it. I don't know why this bothers people.

When someone says something is "better" than something, I like to think that includes every part of a work and not just one. But hey, "better" means different things to different people, so I can't really argue there.
The post I originally quoted was about how consistent the quality of part 2 of JoJo was, a show that is most definitely not consistently well-animated.
Jokes on you, all AoT votes are being changed to Kill Me Baby OVA votes.

Well yeah. He at least watched a few episodes and is open to watching more. You're just going off half-remembered bits of conversation about something you're never going to see.

Well I think people tend to be a little elitist about their favorite things, although in my experience most people in animegaf are largely joking when they take that position.
There are ways of stating your opinion though that don't seem as objective or condescending though.
Saying "I disagree with those people" is vastly different in tone than saying they're wrong.

Well, specifically, assuming we all live up to our gimmicks, you would pick a shounen fighter as your #1, DTL would pick Free, I would pick Tamayura, and so on. Gimmicks aside, we all place a higher value on different things... the AOTY results are a community average more than any indication of specific tastes.

I may watch it some day. Even if something doesn't appeal to me, it's hard to ignore the praise sometimes, especially when it's nearly universal.
I figured he was joking around, but sometimes it's tough to judge tone based on text. Still, we all know each other here and are mostly aware of each other's tastes and posting habits. I like to think of any seemingly confrontational posts as just friendly ribbing.
I see it the other way. Those who like it are having to push back against an unjustified shared conclusion that it's boring and not worth anyone's time. Like with darkside's "I'm glad no more Hyouka is being made" post earlier.

The only person who has flat out stated that it's not worth anyone's time is darkside. Hell I actually like the show but not to the extent as other people here. It's widely considered to have top notch visuals but not everybody likes the actual material comprising the episodes. It's somewhat defensive behavior.
