Sora having to lose so early on was not right, he was one of the better ones in the whole anime and his deck had so many good fusions. Why Raid Raptors have to be so overpowered.

So when the angels and demons and stuff started to appear and take more the limelight in the series and people criticized for it, as it wasn't as good as the first two/three chapters, I didn't say anything. I wanted to give it some trust, and wait and see how things developed.
But yeah, honestly it isn't being that interesting, the series never got to be as awesome as promised by the first episodes. Though it's still good.

Here we learn an conspiracy in the devils side. We have an explanation of the black guy being the "father" of Amira, and shamefully, Amira's character loses some points

as she is simply a little girl in a big body. That's a different character that I imagined and as seen in the first episodes, which had her confusing moments but one supposed it was simply because she just appeared in that world.

Also, Lucifer is a bishonen, as it should /Yuki Karoi.

Beelzebub design is also pretty cool.

So I am entirely sure that I'll regret posting this in this thread. I need some recommendations.

I need more crappy and mediocre anime to watch. There are too many good series that I haven't seen and am I just now willing to dedicate the time to. On the other hand I watched Aldnoah Zero in the past two days and that was absolute great. The show was dumb, mindless, unoriginal, incredibly mediocre. I didn't have to think, I didn't even have to pay attention since it was so obvious and predictable. Hell I tune out the last 3 episodes almost entirely. I guess any recommendation for mediocre shit like that or mindless train wrecks would do.

Is Pupa so bad that it's genuinely entertaining? There's some pretty high standards to be met for a show to quality as list-worthy.

No. Pupa is just an absolute fucking mess. Maybe if they got rid of the censorship it would be worthy for pure cringe-worthy gore combined with being a delayed compact train wreck.

Pupa was just a show whose episodes were too short to accomplish what it needed to do.

There's a lot more wrong with Pupa than episode length, thought that is a big factor.

Some nice world building in the first half followed by great character building moments for Yona as she trains with the bow. I'm sure some people will get annoyed with the FMA:B style comedy scenes during some of the somewhat serious scenes but like in that series they don't really bother me here. By far the best scene in this episode was when Hak told Yona to

Book Girl ~Today's Snack: First Love~

A brief short to introduce myself to the premise - it does help that most of the books are in English, so I can read if I want, but I think I'll be able to obtain all that I need from the anime material. This is basically animated synesthesia. I wonder what jokes about Touko's "taste" in books would be like... or if they were the catalyst for the entire series in the first place. So when people talk about food porn, this is sort of what that's like, except with literature. Using metaphors in a story is a thing since time immemorial, but what if the metaphors are the story?

Book Girl ~Memoire~

So these aired over the course of three weeks before screenings of the movie, to provide more context. That's one way to get more people coming to see it again and again. Fantasy, tragedy and (romantic) comedy apiece. Nanase's and Touko's were cute, while Miu's... "difficult" is the right term here. When Japanese media deals with topics like this, it's not always with a gentle hand, and gets right to the emotion of the thing.

Book Girl Movie

Several bits of novel were skipped over, and it looks like the most dramatic story was chosen. Miu is a broken person, but I don't want to demonize her. Her heartbreak was more tragic (and central to the movie) than Nanase's, but Nanase's silent rejection at the end tugged at the hearstrings just as much. She endured herself to me pretty well in one OVA.

The whole meta idea of a book about books, and a book that was adapted into a movie becoming a book that was adapted into a movie, really does draw attention to what the strengths and unique features of otaku-based fiction are. So much of it has become metafiction. Touko's role in the movie wasn't quite as big as I thought it was going to be, but she had that planetarium moment near the end that more than made up for things. It's her story, so it all comes back to her in the end. Not the greatest anime movie I've seen. As a standalone film, it holds up, and the mildly supernatural element of Touko keeps it something I think is worth analyzing. It certainly made me want to read the books.


Only one more book-based anime to go in this quartet. It started with action, and so shall it be bookended with action, while still playing to the strengths of Kokoro Library and the literary allusions/name-dropping of Book Girl. Tomorrow, it begins.
