Fallout 4 PC Ultra screenshots

Dennis is it just me or you're having a good time in these F4 threads?

Being skeptical of Bethesda isn't some wacky irrational thing. The last 2 Fallout games and Skyrim had massive technical problems. Looking through the media for Fallout 4, it's pretty obvious that it still looks bad in a lot of the same ways the other Fallout games looked bad, and I don't see how bolting new things onto their Frankenengine inspires any confidence that this one won't be totally buggy, too.

When did I say skepticism was bad. I acknowledged that criticism can be made and rightly so, but what alot of what is happening in here is simply ridiculousness. I see you have conceded the graphical argument, so lets go to the moving goalposts one.

I never talked about their technical problems, but yup they sure have them. From their scripting engine that barely holds together, to their animation which only marginally improves on game iteration. I accept that though as nobody makes the kind of game for the PC like Bethesda does. When someone does, I will be highly interested. I'm not excusing that behavior/viewpoint, and not criticizing anyone for speaking up about it. Or the graphics. My issue is with the runaway hyperbole, which I've made abundantly clear.

I imagine Dennis as the guy, and the truck and car posters in the thread.

I haven't. The game looks like dogmeat shit.

This thread is so bonkers I actually can't tell if this is a joke.

Just to be clear I'm joking.

I mean, Fallout 4 looks really bad, but I played Fallout 3 on PS3 for 140 hours and New Vegas on PC for the same amount of time with no graphical mods and I had no problem with them. I actually found their looks to be... charming. If that makes any sense.

The thing I really don't like is the change in art-style, it looks too colorful, IMHO. And the hud is horrible.

Sorry for the off topic question but how did fallout perform on the console? Stability and frames.

Good for your opinion. But at least that has more of a basis than something like Fallout 3 graphics > Fallout 4 graphics which is simply insane and anti-american.

Yeah, but given one of the biggest mods for Fallout 3 is Fellout with over 2M downloads and 25K endorsements, I can see why they made that move. Besides, Fury Road has taught me that the apocalypse can be festive and colorful. And shiny.

Do people just ignore the whole massive weapon modding, settlement creation, and "biggest game we've ever made" when talking about this game? It's going to be the biggest and best Fallout game yet.

In a thread called "Fallout 4 PC Ultra Version Screenshots" people have the audacity to focus on the visual quality of said screenshots? This is an outrage!

Also, "the biggest game we've ever made" doesn't excuse some frankly shockingly poor texture work and model quality. GTA V is the biggest GTA ever and the PC version at Ultra looks positively stunning. The Witcher 3 is the biggest Witcher ever and the PC version at Ultra looks positively stunning. MGS V is the biggest MGS ever and the PC version at Ultra looks... pretty good. Some of the assets we're seeing here look like development placeholders, not something you'd expect from a major AAA title that's been in development for 5+ years. I agree that people go overboard with hyperbole (it clearly looks better than Fallout 3), and it's ridiculous to judge the overall game quality based on some leaked screenshots, but what's been shown is certainly not terribly impressive from a purely visual standpoint. I mean, that tree texture posted earlier? That has no business being in a game in 2015. None of which is indicative that the core gameplay will be bad, mind you; the game's just not very pretty.

I shit you not, never had it crash or hardlock as far as I remember. I only had a minor bug that I remember of (disappeared citizen I was able to bring back by glitching the game to hell and back). But I played it after all the DLCs came out and so I had years worth of patches.

Performance wise I don't remember honestly, at the time that I played F3 I didn't even know what the word "framerate" meant. :lol
But I encountered a pretty big bug on this. After a certain mission after you save
Dad for the first time
, as soon as you exit from the building with him and he says "I will go to Rivet City" the game turned into a slideshow. Even reloading the game didn't fix it, I had to wait two minutes for the Pip-Boy to open and fast travel, that fixed it.

Why do I have to suffer because of other people's terrible taste? :(

Maybe someone will mod Fell-In and add the green-yellow back. Besides, with all of the MASSIVE ENB work people have done on Skyrim, I'm optimistic of some really sexy wrappers for it. Assuming Boris can make it work, of course.

Those system requirements for a maxed Fallout 4 AND a feature-heavy ENB would be insane.

Well, remember with Skyrim, ENB does the AA better than the game did. Its possible they can work ENB to run things like AA, DoF, and such to see a processing upgrade over the base engine. But that technical prowess is way over my head. Durante made a point early that it could be dicey though, given DX11.

The HUD looks too big in the screenshots, especially the crosshair. Otherwise it looks more than passable, it's the animations that'll pull players out of the experience.

I'm still amazed those system requirements are that high. I have a 980ti so I'm not too worried, but those are either recommended specs for 60 fps locked at 1080p at max, or the game is horribly optimized. I'm hoping for the former.

Or just your current-gen system requirements aka overblown and not representative of HW that can actually max out game when going for 1080p60. At least it feels like that all of sudden games require Intel i7 to even boot up, if devs were to be believed :D

I'm suspicious that Papyrus is to the point of bursting, so they ask for a powerful card to offload the graphics to it and let the CPU handle the scripting. I, of course, could be talking out of my ass, but you have to be REAL careful when adding heavy scripting mods to Skyrim given all the engine does. And with the added crafting, base building, and god knows what else, I get the feeling that the engine is going to be begging for a vacation.

Seriously Bethesda, new engine please. We can wait another couple of extra years for TES VI, but PLEASE we need a new engine.

Okay... don't be offended... but I wonder when we're finally going to have threads without somebody posting screenshots from The Witcher 3.

I mean, it's starting to get comical. It seems like every second thread you read somebody finds a wayto toss in a few screenshots of Geralt.

We've got an Elite Xbox One Controller thread going - I swear, if Geralt shows up in it I think I'll have to hang myself.

Graphics look fine to me, better than vanilla FO3 and NV, but worse than modded with Vurt's/NMC/OJO Bueno texture packs.

PC brethren are you playing this comfy couch mode with a controller or kb/m?

KB/M once something like DarnUI comes out to actually make the interface feel more "natural" (something always felt off the vanilla UI of FO3).

I wish more people were like you in their assessments :) Would severely cut down the amount of "I played this for 30 mins and it is the worst game of all realms and eons" posts that plague every OT.

Well, thanks buddy. :)

Controller with my comfy couch, of course.
I mostly use VATS on the previous games anyway.

Keyboard and mouse, all day every day. I'm gonna slam the difficulty up to max, set all the relevant controls to one of my sixteen billion programmable mouse buttons, and go to town.

I don't think that those three mods alone are enough to put FO3/NV past this, and those are like the three mods I always start with when it comes to modding those games out.

Looks solid. Best looking game on the market? Not a chance, but to everyone saying it looks last-gen probably needs to replay some last-gen games again, because this looks a lot better (keeping the scope of this game in mind as well).

Slap some ReShade on there and we've got a stew going.

Ths game is going to need things that ReShade can not offer.

1. More polygons. Some of the buildings in these screenshots may as well be cubes.

2. Higher res textures. I guess we'll wait for texture mods for that to happen.

ReShade will be like putting lipstick on a turd.

Man, houses in the future are made of card-board with stone wall wallpaper pattern. I knew it!

Don't worry. ReShade will fix it!

Y'all have really forgotten what Fallout 3 looked like, haven't you?

This game looks decent. Like a Bethesda game. A much nicer looking Fallout 3 with a touch of color.

that new kjthemonarch video confirms indoor lighting and shadowing in the console version, at least for buildings that are seperate cells from the overworld
