Is El Shaddai what Shane was talking about when he said they had games in the works that was beyond anything XSeed etc could fund?

DSi-exclusive? DSiWare? Remake of some game (i.e. Reborn)?
DSiWare due out in June from Hudson for 800 points. Seems to be a Goth/Horror RPG that's a rerelease of a mobile game and part of their Necromancer series?

Thanks. Hopefully it's 1) good, and if 1 is true, 2) comes to the U.S. :lol

Just so you guys are aware, El Shaddai is one of the seven Old Testament names for God (roughly translates as God Almighty). The Metatron was the angel God suggested to send with Moses and the Hebrews into the promised land until Moses begged that God himself go with them.

The Metatron itself is a very powerful angel with "the name of God in it" (references an ancient belief that the names of things gave them power) which basically makes it a proxy or avatar of God.

Anyway, if previous RPGs' treatments of Abrahamic themes/mythology are anything to go by, the final boss will probably be God himself.

El Shaddai & Nightmare Reborn sound interesting.

I was hoping for the MvC3 article to show the four newly confirmed characters, but at least it's new screen shots.

(DS) handheld waifu +

*sigh*

Edit: Oh, wait... is this a joke about Love Plus+? I thought some other company actually announced a game called "handheld waifu." (Hey, I could totally believe that.)

I dunno. Maybe, for once, we'll get something closer to Actraiser, where you're actually doing "God's Will" and it will actually be a straight forward then where you have to kick Satan's ass.

Compared to what we get most of the time, such a thing will seem refreshing! :lol

Do they even develop games? I thought that they were just a publisher.

They publishing it I think? The blog I'm reading doesn't list a separate developer though.

So, my armour will need to be strong against beard?

Eh, that's not edgy or controversial enough. It'll go:

- You're an angel just following orders until you uncover a new cadre of "bad guys".

- Interactions with these bad guys and some of the things you're ordered to do make you question your power structure

- In a shocking twist, it turns out these "bad guys" have some noble motives to do with free will or somesuch and your boss plans to do something terrible. You turn on your boss and join them

- Cue epic final boss encounter with God

The only time I've ever seen this done differently was in Actraiser and Terranigma, though the latter even had that "what a tweest" moment, albeit on a different side.

The issue is that Abrahamic mythology has this whole good/evil dichotomy to it that only ever plays out one of two ways - straight-up Good Vs Evil and the "God is the real bad guy" twist.

Something is not right here. :lol

Just saw the scans for Nightmare Reborn. I can't tell if it's a traditional RPG or not but it looks pretty cool. I might get it on the off chance it comes here.

Don't forget Soul Blazer; you were basically on a mission from "The Master" there, too. And he was a nice guy that gave his "Hero" the happy ending he worked for.

But any way, again, compared to pretty much everything else from the last 2 decades, finding out that Yahweh is some how NOT actually evil would be a welcome change.

On the other hand, if it was just an action-game that tried to avoid being but so "heady" about the religious overtones (or on the other hand, was playful about it, a la DMC/Bayonetta, from the other side!) that'd be nice.

Religion as an enemy will not be done until we fight a lightsaber wielding Jesus. I'll make sure of that.

Any way, the guy in white is named "Enoch", while the other guy in black is "Lucifer".

Hoo boy... :lol

...this is quite obviously Old Testament-based.

Ignition Entertainment is readying an all new Xbox 360 and PS3 action title called El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatro. This game is being directed by and has character designs from Sawaki Takeyasu, who did art and character designs for Okami and Devil May Cry.

Gameplay promises simple action with combo attacks using only a few buttons. Based on your button combinations, you can create varied combo attacks.

Enemies don't have life gauges. Instead you'll be able to determine their status by, for example, seeing their armor gradually break.

Stage design promises to be beautiful, with plenty of gimmicks, and fields of play with height. You'll have to make your movements to match the abundant patterns of stage formations and situations.

The game story is centered on people and angels. You play as Enoc, a boy who was selected by the gods. Joining you is Lucifer, a red eyed angel who protects you.

Gameplay promises simple action with combo attacks using only a few buttons. Based on your button combinations, you can create varied combo attacks.

In an interview with Famitsu, Takeyasu said that the game aims to do two things: deliver a feeling of direct control and make the player feel not that the character is getting stronger, but that they're getting better.

Development is currently 60% with a release set for some time in 2010.
