Ghouls n Ghosts?

Dang, now I might have to buy a PSP. I was waiting for something to justify the purchase.

Capcom rocks.

Some details on G&G:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/08/31/news_6132337.html

Goku Makai-Mura is being directed by the series' founder, Tokurou Fujiwara, who previously worked on Resident Evil and other popular franchises at Capcom.

Goku Makai-Mura will pay homage to the original game by retaining the side-scrolling format, something lost in the Ghosts 'n Goblins-based Maximo series for the PlayStation 2. The armored knight Arthur returns once again, and like in previous Ghosts 'n Goblins games, a few direct attacks will reduce him to prancing around in his skivvies. Arthur will be challenged to defeat enemies in an effort to advance through levels riddled with graveyard spooks. Like in previous releases, various weapon power-ups and magic bonuses will be scattered throughout the levels.

There will be several new facets to the game as well, most notably the addition of 3D graphics. While Ghosts 'n Goblins has traditionally been linear in that players start at one point and advance from stage to stage, gamers can choose paths between levels. Arthur will be able to pick up new items and acquire moves (such as double jumping) as he advances through stages. Outfitted with new skills and weapons, players can return to older stages to uncover secrets and explore previously unexplored areas.

Monster Hunter PSP is slick looking isnt it.

Now if only people would buy Monster Hunter on PS2 so they would understand it is an action game instead of an rpg... it might give the series some legs in the states.

Sweet merciful fucksocks @ GNG! O_O I really, really can't believe something like that is coming from Capcom, now, on PSP. I am in complete shock, and I couldn't be happier. And it's obviously in the right hands, too. Who cares if it's actually 3D? I can't tell the difference from those screens. 2D forever! IGA gets the big FU! :lol

is monster hunter psp online? i'd meant to pick up the ps2 version, but never got around to it.

Is GnG actually 2D though? As in hand-drawn backgrounds and sprites? I can't be positive based on the screens in the scans, but it doesn't look like it. At first I thought it was just because the screens were small and possibly artifacts from the scan, but there's a certain lack of sharpness and detail you would expect if it were actually 2D graphics. The GS description mentions 3D graphics as well. Now I'm not opposed to 2.5D games (since my major gripe with 3D is not the graphics but the loss of control precision and camera issues with the third dimension), but I'd still like to see a real high-res 2D monster on the PSP (or elsewhere).

ad-hoc only, i believe

the capcom giveth and the capcom taketh away. :( still, goku makaimura looks so ridiculously great that i'll gladly, as mr. angry face once put it, eat capcom's poop for some time to come. sounds like they're introducing some adventure elements. maybe a bit of tomba influence. they should call it "ghouls n' pigs" when they release it here. i don't mind as long as the adventure stuff doesn't compromise the hard and polished action we expect from makaimura.

FU IGA!

About fucking time PSP started getting some titles announced. It wasn't looking too good for the little machine lately. These games do nothing but lean me toward a purchase. I might hold off though, I rarely play my GBA and even wi th the awesome DS games I haven't bought it yet. Strange though becuase handheld games are such fun to pick up and play.

IAWTP. There's a very useful lesson here for our favorite vampire wrangler; actually two.

1) Don't do 3D if you can't do 3D.
2) 2.5D is your friend.

I think we should ease up on old Iga. The man said he would love to do a PSP and home console 2D Castlevania but the resources for PSP/PS2 levels are like a no-no when it comes to Konami so the DS only getting it is a much more viable option.

"I really, really can't believe something like that is coming from Capcom, now, on PSP."

the DS stuff looks pretty fecking hot too.

Capcom set to DOMINATE my play time.

Add my FUCK YES to the pile.

Also, Monster Hunter is still planned for 2005 in Japan? Wow....hopefully it won't get too much of a delay when they add online. (Which they had better, or it's pretty much worthless.)

It probably is 2.5D, but with as detailed as those textures look (through the blur), they might as well be high-res 2D backgrounds. I'm never quite sure what to think when I hear the term "3DCG" used by Japanese, though - is it actual 3D? Is it prerendered?

Now that I'm looking at the screens a little closer, those eyeball monster things are definitely 3D. Kinda low-poly, but with nice-looking textures. This whole game is clearly going to be a case of art over tech.

Now, folks, let's refrain from "FUCK IGA" until we get some sales numbers and see if it actually proved to be feasible.

Someone translate all the Monster Hunter info in there for us! Game looks hot, if it's good and ends up coming to North America I'm going to have to buy a PSP.

Jonnyram, does the latest issue address how the swinging of swords and gunner controls will be mapped for Monster Hunter PSP?

I got one word to say to Capcom.

Godamnyouiwasntplanningonbuyingapspbutnowyourmakingmegoddamnitdamndamndamn.

Okami, Wanda... let me touch you!

Makaimura... second white PSP, here I come!

Makaimura looks absolutely fantastic, 2D looks wonderful on PSP, hope more developers start to release this type of games.

Oh God, yes. They didn't screw up. They did something right. This is an actual, true-blue hell freezing over event...

...looks so, so shit hot. Yes.

GnG definitely looks nice and I would love to see more traditional platform series in "2.5D". So do we have an estimate on the release date?

Can someone mirror the Monster Hunter pics btw.

Please can somebody rehost Monster Hunter pics? I can open the other scans but not them. Thanks. Are in this numbers any pages of Street Fighter Zero 3 Double Upper, Rogue Galaxy or .Hack//Fragment. Thanks in advance Jonnyram

Here's the first page of Monster Hunter. Dont' know why I didn't save page 2...

I've reposted here:

There's only a couple of small pics fo SFZ3, nothing worth seeing honestly.
Lots of pics of Rogue Galaxy and .hack//Fragments but I'm kind of tied up at the moment so I can't scan them. Most of these pics will probably be on their official sites in the next 24 hours though, I reckon.

Not to burst the collective bubble here - but doesn't the fact that we're all excited about a 2D platform game on the PSP sort of undermines the whole value proposition of the PSP (Powerful, vastly improved 3D graphics, next-gen portable experience, etc.)?

I mean it looks to me that even the DS and *maybe* the GBA can pull off GnG properly. Is this saying something? Is the PSP ultimately overpowered and overpriced for the handheld market?

I'm a fan of both 2D platformers and the PSP, so this is not an attempt at knocking the system down.

Eh, ultimately a system's worth is all in the games. Good and fun games should be promoted, whether it's 2d or 3d.

The new G&G looks nice. I would have preferred sprites, but at least the gameplay looks like it's going to be 2D. Also, I'm glad the up/down firing is making a return. It should never have left the series.

Nevermind, that PSP G&G isn't 2d. Looks fantastic though.
