Is there anyone in Japan doesn’t have a switch right now ?

I also honestly don’t get the hardware spike when new game is being released at this life stage of the switch.

It’s like ( according to this figure ) there are 90k people were saying ( I am not gonna buy switch for all the other Pokémon games that were released already, but once this Pokémon is out I am gonna buy one ).

I mean I get it. Software drives the hardware sales. It’s logic 101. But at this stage of the switch life, this huge increase isn’t normal.

Maybe because holidays I guess.

The maximum that switch can sell in Japan (IMO) is probably something like 35 million so with Switch just passing 27 million there are still lots of sales ahead.

Well there are always kids coming of age (as in video game playing age) and as they become old enough I’m sure their parents/grandparents buy them a switch as that is the default choice here in Japan.

Also some older people just don’t buy into a system until really late. My mother-in-law was just recently talking about buying a Switch. Considering over 27 million have already been sold here, that is pretty late!

Pokemon is selling gargantuan numbers, it likely sold another 2-ish million in the second week. Nintendo going from Splatoon 3 to Pokemon in a few months is some lavish type of success. They had 3-4 massive exclusive success stories in 2022.

Minecraft Switch is continuing to sell big, I see the Horizon bundle got stock.

Nintendo quietly dominating the gaming landscape while the giants go at each other with massive budget games, subscription services and court battles.

Kids who weren't old enough 2 years ago, might be old enough to own their own Switch now.

People upgrading from their launch Switch

People waiting for an actual open world Pokémon game that doesn't feels and plays like a DS/3DS game. Yeah, the game is a technical disaster, but at least it feels 'new'.

Plenty of reasons why people get a Switch now.

I'm in a few categories.

I got the OLED Switch because my launch one is dead.

Two of my kids are now old enough to want a Switch so now there's two Switch Lites in the house as well.

Still happy to see Splatoon 3 still pulling good numbers even with how long it has been out, the game deserves it. Surprised Switch hardware still that high this week.

Gran Turismo 7 close to 200k on PS5 alone is not that bad all things considered.

Good week for PS5, over 50k consoles sold. Switch...i won't even comment at this point, lmao.

Again, it doesnt matter how many hw units the PS5 sells in Japan, when their software sales dont even cross the 4k mark needed for a top ten entry this week. The Horizon FW sales are from bundles. The question remains why «no one» in Japan are buying PS5 software.
Digital, GAAS games and most ps5 in Japan bought by Scalpers sent to other Asian countries. Sony don't care as they're making good profit off each ps5 as PlayStation gamers spend quite a bit.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Respectable numbers for PS5. As far as the Switch, I'm surprised it is still going so strong. It's probably gonna reach a plateau sooner or later. I was thinking it would have happened already to be honest. These levels of sales can't be taken for granted.

This isn’t the 90s. Digital games are a thing.
Stuff like GT7 crossed the 200k on PS5 alone…physical sales. It’s not amazing but also not a tragedy.

Not much PS5 software to buy and scalpers selling to the rest of Asia.

These are normal holiday sales so it isn't a huge hardware spike. But having said, more people have bought this Pokémon game in Japan in the first two weeks than any other, so it's very likely that it has attracted people who didn't play Pokémon before.

Hardware sales have already plateaued, and are now declining. Switch software on the other hand is still growing.
