Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of August 2, 2021 to August 8, 2021.

On the hardware side, the Switch family sold 72,773 units, the PlayStation 5 family sold 13,530 units, the Xbox Series family sold 1,069 units, and the PlayStation 4 family sold 1,439 units. Next-generation consoles continue to face stock issues.

I'm shocked there were even ~500 each of Series S and Series X consoles in the country to be sold. Amazon says they don't know if they'll ever be back in, as opposed to "We'll let you know when they're back in stock.

Where are people finding them, BIC Camera Shibuya or what?

A very slow period for Japan coming up with the only game that should surpass 100K in the next four weeks being Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel.
PS4/PS5's next major title is Tales of Arise launching in a months time, its looking like it will debut below Tales of Berseria which managed to launch with 160K on the PS4 and 74K on the PS3. So far the biggest debut this year on the PS4/PS5 has been Resident Evil: Village which only managed 111K on the PS4 and 38K on the PS5. I expect Arise to end up above 100K on the PS4 but below 30K on the PS5. With the anemic software performance of the PS5 this is a franchise that will need to look at success overseas to make up it's decline in Japan.

Without much third party support Switch's physical sales within it's Top 30 titles will overtake 3DS lifetime totals by the end of 2022,
At the moment 70% of sales in the Top 30 are Nintendo 1st Party titles, with an additional 12% coming from Pokemon Co.
Through-out the 3DS's life it constantly received high-profile third party titles, with Level 5, Capcom & Square being especially successful due to Yo-Kai Watch, Monster Hunter & Dragon Quest. The Switch caught all major Japanese third party publishers unprepared and it's only in late 2020 when one of them achieved a major hit via Konami's Momotaro, followed by Monster Hunter Rise in 2021.
