[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "The Hundred Line" starts off in first place! Five new titles, including "Clair Obscur: Expedition 33" and "Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club," make it into the top 10 [4/21-5/4]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from April 21 to May 4, 2025 in Japan.

Due to the calculation period, the rankings are based on the combined totals for both weeks. Five of the top ten titles are new to this week's ranking. Taking the top spot is HUNDRED LINE - Final Defense Academy.

This is a completely new adventure game created by a collaboration between Tokyo Games and Aniplex, and is also a hot topic due to its extraordinary volume, with 100 endings. It has sold 26,732 units, making a good start.

Ranked 4th is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a turn-based RPG that incorporates action elements such as dodging and parrying enemy attacks. The story and characters are also appealing and it has been talked about as a French JRPG.

Ranked 7th is Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club: The Future Map of Excitement, the first visual novel game based on the anime, where you can enjoy school life with the heroines.

Next in ninth place is Technos the World Kunio-kun & Arcade Collection, a collection of 12 previously released titles by Technos Japan and in tenth place is the latest installment in the popular fighting game series, Fatal Fury City of the Wolves SPECIAL EDITION , both of which are recording strong sales.

The PS5 promotion having a clear affect on MH Wilds.

That's a bit disappointing for The Hundred Line.
I expected a bit more for 100 Line as well, but I think in the long run it has a chance to reach Rain Code numbers (their previous adventure game published by Spike Chunsoft) as it has better word of mouth. And although I'm not sure if it's in the plans, I hope they consider doing a Switch 2 upgrade and/or release later down the road.

Also, I mentioned this in another thread, but the director of the game tweeted a day ago that the game is selling well, so presumably it did ok digitally on Steam and eShop.

People still understanding Switch software is playable on Switch 2 might make people consider picking up a Switch still.
With at explains buying Switch 1 games, but few weeks before the new system comes out the 8 old system is still selling very well? It seems odd that is all, are some people feeling a bit of sting from the price?

Solid numbers all around.

Clair Obscur, a JRPG at its core flops in Japan...what is wrong with those people...or maybe they bought it a lot more digitally? Who knows.

I don't think that digital sales could make a big difference, the game did bad… And that's a shame. Maybe the Steam version did better.

These numbers are so low that the market looks to be near irrelevant from a consumer perspective.

By that logic a lot of European countries would also be irrelevant. Or markets like South Korea for that matter.

Given population size and that Switch is in its twilight phase, and PS5 is, well, PS5, the numbers for hardware are solid. Xbox has been a non-factor for years now so its numbers aren't surprising.

Software numbers could be better, but they're about par for non-major software releases.

It's a AA JRPG-inspired France RPG that's not Dragon Quest or a long-running brand, from a non-Japanese dev studio. We also don't know if SEGA (I didn't even know SEGA were publishing it in Japan until this thread xD) did a sizable marketing campaign or not.

It's also possible that if physical stock were low, Steam is making up the majority of its sales in Japan, especially if WOM for the game there is as strong as it's been in other territories. So, we wouldn't see those numbers reflected in these sales charts.

Yes looks like low stock is confirmed from the devs.

It's the calm before the storm. This year the lineup for Japan is way way stronger in June-December than in Jan-May.

Thr Japanese market is huge.

That plus people who are buying the Switch when it's 8 years old aren't the type to pick up a Switch 2 in it's first year.

Clair Obscur doesn't have a Japanese dub, so that might have negatively impacted its sales potential. Plus, Mr Moose Mr Moose correctly pointed out that the physical edition was sold out at most retailers across the globe, which of course includes Japanese retailers.

As for digital, it actually charted pretty high on PSN JP this month, so the numbers should be good (probably sold more digitally than physically on PS5).

PSN rankings are sorted by revenue so it includes both F2P which perform really strong in Japan and regular paid games.
