[Weekly software and hardware sales figures] "Luigi's Mansion 2 HD" tops the charts for the third consecutive week! Switch versions of "Ace Combat 7" and "Princess Maker 2" also make the top 10 [7/8 - 7/14]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of the estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from July 8 to July 14, 2024.

Luigi'sMansion 2 HD is doing well, selling 16,425 units this week. It has now topped the charts for three consecutive weeks.

This is an HD remaster of a title released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013 for the Nintendo Switch and is an action adventure game starring Mario's younger brother Luigi. It also supports online cooperative play for up to four people so the number of players is expected to increase even more as the summer vacation season approaches.

Coming in second place is the first-time debut of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Deluxe Edition, a flight shooting game released for other platforms that was ported to the Nintendo Switch with a large amount of additional content included and has sold over 10,000 units.

Another title worth noting is Princess Maker 2: Regeneration which made it's debut at number 10. This is a simulation-type child-rearing game in which the player experiences raising a daughter as a father for eight years from when she is 10 to 18 years old. As the latest in a popular series with a 30-year history, it has been supported by passionate fans and has made it into the top 10.

We're at that point (we have been at that point for a while tbh) where Famitsu means very little to have an actual idea of gaming sales in Japan. Don't they have something that includes more than just physical games? UK gets physical charts but later in the month we get a physical + digital chart. Is there something similar in Japan?

There's no way in hell that the 10th "biggest" game in Japan selling 3,685 copies each week.

Sales kinda lower and lower, or its just usual slow down?
Comibnaiton of:

  • Switch is in its 8th year
  • Lack of PS5 evergreens
  • Very weak lineup of Q2 2024
Itll get a bit better in H2 2024, but the Japan market needs Switch 2 and MH Wilds / GTA VI to give it a shot in the arm

So PS5 had an even bigger YoY decline in Japan than it did in Europe.
That's becuase it didn't get a 2nd price increase in Europe, nor did it get a Helldivers 2 boost in Japan.

Nothing official, but as a very rough guide Switch games will be about 25-50% digital, while PS5 games will be a bit above that.

I wonder how well AC 7 performs on the Switch, its cool to see it chart at 2nd, but I doubt it will be on the chart next week. The Switch hovering at 50k for weeks on end ain't bad at all considering how far we are in it's life. I really wonder if we will ever get that fabled price drop for it

Haven't been following this in a while but surprised to see such home console domination by the ps5. I thought Xbox was mounting a challenge.

It's sale's are good ahead of the Pro launch which is needed and probably a price cut if it wants to fend off the ps4 in the medium term.

Some milestones:
  • MK8 DX crosses 5.9 million
  • Paper Mario TTYD crosses 200,000
  • LM3 crosses 1 million
I'm on vacation next week so could someone else post the Famitsu sales, thanks.
I'll do it. Thanks for doing it all this time!

Xbox was never mounting a challenge in Japan. Hardware-wise PS5 sales are good, but better software and a price cut would definitely help.

OK.. that is insane. Nintendo's hold of Japan is edging on monopoly.

There's no way in hell that the 10th "biggest" game in Japan selling 3,685 copies each week.
Famitsu is definitely not the most accurate. Media Create is basically the NPD (or whatever stupid name they call themselves, now) of Japan. It's what the big three use. I remember when Series was somewhere around 500K, someone on Twitter (may have been Era) leaked that MC only had them at ~250K. Shortly after, Famitsu dropped Series weekly sales numbers incredibly.

I always look at these threads for entertainment purposes, as it gives us a ballpark of what the numbers are, but I definitely don't take these numbers as 100% set in stone.

The first two make sense to me, but I don't understand the hype for Pragmata at all.

This. The Media Create Top 1,000 reports will be more accurate, but it's still very nice to have Famitsu to have some useful data each week .
