[Weekly Software & Hardware Sales] "Mario Kart World" tops the charts for the eighth consecutive week! The Switch 2 versions of "Super Mario Party Jamboree," "Akira: Utsuronohane," and "Utakata no Yuchronia -trail-" also performed well [July 21st - July 27th]


Famitsu's sales rankings. This time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly sales figures for game software and hardware from July 21st to July 27th, 2025 in Japan.

Mario Kart World, now in its eighth week since its release, continues to perform well. This week it sold 76,224 units, making it the top seller for the eighth week in a row.

Coming in second place is Donkey Kong Country: Bananza, which also remains in the same position as last week. The exhilarating action of destroying everything with superhuman strength has seen it sell a respectable 53,951 units.

Amidst all this three titles that are making their first appearance this week entered the top 10. Looking at the rankings in order, third place goes to Super Mario Party Jamboree Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, an upgraded version of the currently available Super Mario Party Jamboree that adds new gameplay features unique to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Super Mario Party Jamboree also made it into 10th place meaning that different versions of the same title are now both in the top 10.

Coming in fourth is Ming Dynasty: Utsuronohane, a new Souls-like action RPG set in ancient China where a mysterious disease is rampant. Coming in sixth is Utakata no Eukronia -trail-, a sequel to a girls game released in April 2024. Both titles are off to a strong start.

PS5 DE sales are a total disaster as usual. Xbox is already erased from the map.

Donkey Kong did an amazing job. The metacritic score really did wonders to his popularity. To be face to face with Mario Kart is a great merit.
 
By the way, Famitsu has overtracked Switch 2 unit sales in Japan. Which means that DK Bananza sales is better in Japan in hindsight given that the install base in Japan is much lower than Famitsu estimated.

How much lower should Switch 2 sales be? I guess use means DK has a higher attach rate. That's good, I guess.

I did get DK and am glad for it to do well, but I'm the weirdo that got most excited during the reveal direct that I was most excited for Metroid Prime 4k/60 and Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance on GameCube online.
