Not the best week for PS5 hardware considering the time of year, but still better than the PS4/PS3 did this week in 2016/2009.

Now we can see why Nintendo kept their Switch sales forecast at 15m for the fiscal year a slow holiday for Switch after a relatively great summer. Though perhaps it is not as much down YoY in other countries and I still think they should end up shipping more than 15m this FY.

Wow Nintendo dominating still.
It's Japan. They've been dominating their for 2 decades, it shouldn't be a surprise lol. Sony would have needed to make their console a handheld hybrid to even have a remote chance at getting half their sales in Japan.

Really excellent launch for DQM3. Hopefully both it and Momotaro keep performing well in the holiday weeks.

From the Nintendo side, Mario Wonder and Pikmin 4 are set up to have great holiday sales too. But on the flip side, Switch hardware looks like it will have its weakest holiday ever.

Will interesting to see if PS5 hardware rises next week or falls again. The price increase might be having an effect.

Price increase still mystifies me. I think it's why it plateaued so quickly again.

Have to check my math, but I believe it's official this week that PS5 has sold more this year in Japan than it has its first 2 years combined. And we still got 3 weeks left.

When did they raise the price?
Last month. The "Slim" redesign models cost more than the previous ones.

Digital edition is 7,000 yen more and the disk edition costs 6,000 yen more.
Peripheral costs also were adjusted

Nintendos domination in Japan is just insane. Will be interesting to see if it continues with the next system.

Seems like it might, but I'm sure Sony already calculated that into the price increase itself.

It is what it is. Yen is very weak compared to the dollar so Sony were basically losing money on PS5s sold in Japan until the adjustment (or at least, were cutting it a lot closer in terms of breaking even).

Guess they feel if hardware sales in the country sit at a healthy enough average then they do not care so much if that average is a tad bit lower than in the past. They're still ahead of PS4 & PS3 (maybe PS2?) in Japan launch-aligned and by the time they do a price cut there will be more software on the system to attract buyers.

I also think those rumors about the PS Portal allowing some sort of separate cloud streaming functionality are true, that's why Sony asked NPD/Circana to track it as a gaming device and not a peripheral. But they probably haven't asked other trackers to do the same yet. Either way, that could help grow PS Portal install base in Japan since they have excellent internet.

Just guessing they are considering what's the best way to go about it without drawing away a purpose for a person to still buy a PS5 to access their content on the PS Portal. Maybe a (higher) subscription cost to PS+? Or making PS+ Premium the only sub option on Portal for those without a PS5?
