Far Cry 3 PC performance thread

so did the 1.02 patch actually improve performance then? from the patch notes it does not seem like it should have...

I don't get this game I really don't. Was struggling to pull off 40FPS 2 days ago on even dx9, last night I fire up the game dx11 all ultra 2x msaa, and im getting 50 - 70FPS.... wtf?

never messed with XLM file, nothing in inspector is different.... whatever, I'll take it.

same here. I tried Dx9 on High every single day last week. FPS sticks to 50-60 for the most part. The moment I crank settings up to Very High, everything goes to SHIT. I switched on Dx11 for the first time last night- and I was able to play close to 60fps on Very High (except during the parts where I'm overlooking the island). WTF?
Going to try the Cap 2 profile for my Catalyst 12.11 drivers in abit. Will report in 2 hours

Does anyone get a bug where every once in a while enemies will "flicker" like crazy? I saw it about ten times last night. It kind of looks like their animations are freaking out, and they are "blurring" around a certain point.

Yes, I get that sometimes. Seems taking a screenshot with Fraps fixes the issue for me when I see it.

Yeah, maybe they'll sort it out.

Chiming in. I have the same issue in the cave.

Hmm that makes the whole thing even more odd xD Have you tried to compare your FPS while looking straight into the sky?

It can't be that my 6850 is some kind of magic-card :P

Well I can't really explain it either, all I really did was to remove FXAA and reducing the SSAO draw distance while keeping the SSAO level on 4 in DX11 o.o But I'm glad my config helps some people out, have fun playing! :D

Here is the post where I shared my config :) http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=45020008&postcount=1214

Previously I had it set to DX9. So that could have been part of the problem. It also could be the SSAOMaxDistance that makes the difference. Can you confirm that it works and/or that the ingame settings are set higher? I also had everything set to medium. Your config didn't worsen framerate so other settings on high doesn't seem to influence framerate so much.

don't matter, lets not derail this thread please.

Someone post back with the new driver results! Looks like there are some very nice changes here!

Would that be bannable?

I seem to recall that people have openly discussed using cracked .exes for games they legally purchased because sometimes they were more convenient.

I don't think you can automatically conclude that using a keygen is for the purpose of piracy so if that post is the reason for Sethos ban I hope the mod(s) will reconsider.

as far as i know cracked exes dont require keygens, they're used for applications and programs

i admitted to acquiring a game via torrent and posted screenshots of it, got banned for 1 month - im guessing this could be of similar length, depends on the mod really.

anywho, back to them new drivers. they have fixed the snow flicker in AC3 for SLI setups and some nice performance gains across the board so its an essential upgrade

new drivers with the 1.02 update (some people reported nice performance gain), should make a lot of people very happy including myself.

Want to go home now :/

Hope it fixes the micro stutter for me. Because everything else I've tried - and I feel like I've tried everything! - hasn't made any real difference at all. If it weren't for other games working fine I would think there's something wrong with my PC.

So should I not use the D3D11MultithreadedRendering flag in Xml? I have been having random crashes and think this maybe the culprit.

Play super smooth locked 60fps, 1 hour later hitching and stuttering begins, which makes it pretty much unplayable. Restart game - nope, still hitching! I don't get it.

Help. I have major texture issues with this game (7970m latest drivers 12.11 beta 11)
Through out the entire opening mission there was a black transparent square in the middle of the screen. The game looks like a mess no matter what I do.

At low/console-ish settings, what kind of PC does this game require to stay at 30 fps or above? I'm thinking that my laptop should be able to run it significantly better than my PS3, but I want to make sure. I can run things like Borderlands 2 just fine at mostly high settings (although with PhysX turned off).

I have a GTX 590. Is there anything I have to fuck with in NVIDIA Inspector to get this game working properly for a dual-GPU setup?

Someone posted a youtube link over at overclock.net forums about how to do it.

Looks like you have to do a whole bunch of editing. I for one am not messing with this as it seems like a lot of hassle for something so simple. Oh ya, and that punkbuster too.... don't want to risk a ban :(

Anyways, here's the link for ya: http://www.overclock.net/t/1329630/...-out-second-patch1-02-256mb/580#post_18747315

This works.

Not a bug, it's a side effect of all the drugs you've been taking in the game.

I'm running it on an Asus g55 @ 1080p with everything set at low and getting between 40-50FPS with fraps running, on medium between 35-42 or so. I'm guessing this still looks WAY better even at low than console versions though. Game does not seem very optimized at all. This is probably the most demanding game I've seen lol. I mean my laptop will play BF3 at higher settings. Is there a way to see what version of the game you are running? I hear 1.0.2 helps but some people steam aren't getting the update which is the version I got.

Tried everything - the game hangs at the very end of "Prison Island Hotel". Always in the same moment. What to do GAF?

EDIT: And just like that I solved it - I ahd to turn the MultiRendering in XML back to 0.

Oh man why me, I lost 6fps going from 310.64 to 310.70 which doesn't make sense, I had loaded a save game with FRAPS enabled and it showed 59fps, then after installing 310.70 it dropped to 53fps, Nvidia control panel was at default settings before and after.

K, so I can run it on Ultra ( 3570K and GTX670) I just have no idea what those sampling methods mean. I enabled V-Sync and put the buffer to 2 frames. I don't have FSAA on and I set the sampling to SSAO. Is that good? I stop playing PC games for a while and now I feel stupid in the settings menus.

DX11 is to Far Cry 3 what Jason is to Friday the 13th or Michael Meyers to Halloween. Except the only victim being slashed here is the frame rate.

V-sync 2 frames caps your framerate at 30 fps. Use V-Sync 1 (max 60). Best SSAO setting is HDAO but it's quite demanding.

Ok False alarm! ..I overlooked the fact my GTX 480 overclock was reset to stock when installing new drivers, no performance change with 310.70 vs. .64 and from looking at the release notes it looks like they just added some previously optimized games in, its using the same FC3 optimizations from .64

I want to keep the ammo counter but lose the minimap, objective/enemy markers etc... hopefully someone will make a customizable mod.
