Far Cry 4 |OT| Welcome to Kyrat

What's it like clearing out camps on this game compared to Far Cry 3? That was easily my favorite aspect of FC3 just because there were so many ways to do it. My favorite way by far was to shoot open an animal's cage with a silenced sniper rifle, then watch it maul the guards as they came over to investigate the commotion. Does FC4 give you even more options when clearing out camps, or is it roughly the same as FC3 in that regard?

You can:
Pick people off from the outside
Lure animals into the camps
Free animals inside the camps
Sneak in and take everyone out

Be careful. Some of these aren't always viable options ;-)

Your reward is based off of 3 statuses -- being undetected, no alarms going off, or just normal liberation.

Body double. Its not even Pagan's face on the money but his double's. He explains it in a mission after you supposedly kill him.

Can you explain that please.. I literally just finished that mission where he starts explaining and then I died and somehow it skipped all the dialogue.........................................

edit: nvm looked it up on youtube. didnt miss much lol

LOL, the one in bold makes me think of Blood Dragon! Can you lure elephants into the camps as well? If so, do they usually clear out the entire camps singlehandedly? I imagine that the elephants must be extremely tough to take down.

That sounds pretty much like FC3. Are the outposts bigger or more complex than they were in FC3?

No. Luring will only work for carnivores. I don't know how but the enemies pissed off a rogue elephant at some point in that case, it killed almost every body inside by itself during my game (I only had a chance to kill 2 people after the elephant was rampaging). Sometimes an elephant might be in a camp and you can open it up and spur it to go attack people. And yes, elephants are tough to kill except in select situation like a truck ramming into the elephant head on. Depending on enemy types and animal that comes in, it could be very tough to take down and clear the camp out for you.

I think the outposts are relatively the same as FC3 in terms of size. Some of them are pretty big. I think the reinforcements can easily be more intense in the 2nd half of the island. However, fortresses are larger than most outposts and tend to have a more complex structure and difficulty if you aren't appropriately prepared. One fortress has 4 alarms as well. There are 4 fortresses and about 23 outposts I believe

Okay, so been playing for a couple hours.

I AM LOVING THIS.

Kyrat looks fucking gorgeous. Amazing world. Beautiful soundtrack. I already like Ajay more than that twat, Jason. The voice acting is really good to boot. The world is smooth and gunplay is fun.

But

Is anyone else having this weird problem where the quick select menu keeps flashing onto the screen when the button is not pressed? It's annoying as fuck.

You might be swiping the touchpad which also activates the select menu. Disable it in the start menu. By the way, every time you start the game you'll have to turn it on and off. At least thats what happened on PS4
The flamethrower is very very fun to use.

Yes, it is! I used it to keep animals at bay. :)

Touchpad also works the Quick Equip system, you might be accidently hovering over it :p

It's unlocked after the first time you pick it up or after a specific campaign mission, I believe.

Touchpad sensitivity is ridiculous, and the game has a bug where disabling the touchpad in the options menu doesn't actually disable the touchpad.

The first (and only) time I found it was after
escaping the prison and reaching the sniper tower.
Fantastic weapon, and then the A50 blows it out of the water. Really like the weapons in this game.

I also found it there too, but I gotta say I fucking hated that mission.

Yep. Every session that you play you need to turn it on and then off again. The disabled touchpad only works for the session you are playing. It saves the preference but it doesn't work for some reason

I don't know that I ever got the A50? Maybe it was just the sniper rifle I ditched because it had no silencer.

New options: Ride in on an elephant and trunk punch everyone
Fly in on an autogyro and grenade launch everyone
Lure predators with bait to eat everyone

Didn't like it either, specially the
illusions with demons and no weapon at all. It makes no sense if you consider the Shangri-La missions. Having to throw knives and pick up weapons without silencers was also frustrating at best.

It's available after one of the last story missions.

Really good game but I messed it up with the maps you can buy. Now I see every damn location on the map! I wanted to find them by myself. :-(

Thats a cool reference (granted its one I don't understand). But I do find the character Rabi Ray Rana hilarious. Sometimes I'll sit in the car until his segment finishes. Right up there as my favorite in-game radio show with Lazlo on Chatterbox in GTA 3.

I never did a propaganda mission but maybe I should

Rabi Ray spouts a lot of Indian culture in his shows, the voice actor is an Indo-American comedian himself, so it fits naturally.

yep, game is just wonderful, best moments for me is just exploring this beautiful world and encounter all the crazy unscripted things that happen.

Only thing I absolutely hate in this game are the fucking wild dogs... you know those 5 packs of them... they are so frequently encountered and they are so... sooo irritating. Hate those fuckers.

Thats so cool. I'm appreciating the game more for how much attention they gave some stuff
Rabi ray is soo good.
Yeah, I agree. :)

If you set an example of one by igniting it, the pack runs away.

Man i really enjoyed this tonight. My friend been playing this maxed on his pc, looks excellent, controls are really nice.

Wasted three trucks in a convoy from the air in that junk helicopter. LOL Grenades from above< was awesome. Nice blend of feels of Just cause and Blood Dragon. IMO this should be remembered well above Destiny for this fall of 2014. The game world is very impressive.

I did that and yes indeed the other run away, but not for long... they always come back man... always... dont know if they just hate me or something lol.

Fortunately the later part of the game in the other half of the map, doesnt have them in abundance. I seriously loath them! :p

I thoroughly hated far cry 2. Skipped 3 and decided to give a 4 a shot. Every single thing in this game just seems tedious, boring, or annoying.

I just started act 3 and this is almost as bad an experience as far cry 2 for me. I think I should just give it up and stop trying to force myself to like this series.

does the framerate take a hit once you enter the north part of the map (on ps4) or am i imagining things? game feels less smooth and choppier in the north. if i go back to the south area, everything runs fine.

There is one area in the north, a relatively really small one, that indeed produces some weird framerate issues. Its next to a camp you liberate.

I encountered it as well. Weird thing is that there is nothing particularly different or taxing in that area. It seems like an isolated issue with the game code in that specific area.

Apart from that, anywhere else I've ventured in the north, south or wherever, I had no frame drops whatsoever.

I grabbed a convoy and was on my way to drop it off. I passed by a mission marker on my way there and got pulled into a cutscene. I get out the cutscene and the convoy is gone. Why would there not be a button prompt/option to start a mission? Just passing by a marker to start a mission is just plain stupid.

Cool thanks! Would have thought it would at least show up on the list. Hell I have guns on there I've never seen anyone carry yet that are locked.

Maybe this has already been discussed to death but what does this one bring to the table over Far Cry 3? I loved Far Cry 3 but as soon as I started FC4 I just started feeling an intense feeling of deja-vu and found it hard to press on beyond the first couple of missions.

Just beat the game.

I chose to let Min live so I could sit down and eat with him. He brought me to the memorial site and he said to me something like, "I'll let you have king, but I'm keeping the chopper. I decided he needed to die then so I shot down the helicopter. Hehehe

They're pretty common. I found a lot of them in southern Kyrat, towards the center. But you can always look on your map to see where they are. Just zoom in and you'll see the animals icons for where they're located.

Oh, usually I am already running in a direction and the animals dont tend to run the same path as me but if they do, I make sure I roast them all.

Yeah, it sounds like this game definitely isn't for you. I can't say I find some of the stuff tedious or boring but there are some things that I found annoying as well and that is even with liking the game.

Not too much. Its very similar to Far Cry 3. Personally, I think the story for this is much better than FC3 (I didn't like that one very much). I can't think of any new mechanics except for riding elephants and conquering fortresses. Possibly using bait but that may have been in a previous game and I can't remember. I think the number of paths based on your choices is greater in number as well.

Same choice that I made :)

In the North or in the Himalayas

Never used the grapple or the chopper?
Or the friendlies you can call (or take with you) to help in a fight?

And there's free-roam co-op.

While I don't have the game I was watching Major Nelson's stream early this week he was doing hostage rescue missions do they become harder because they looked easy to complete?

The Man With The Golden Dong
Aww man... disappointed that I didn't get the multiple-arrow ability from the third Shangri-La. Do I get anything worthwhile for completing the last two?

TL; DR: Also noticed an annoying glitch regarding these missions -- when you finish them, you come back severely depleted (like 100k worth) of Ammo. Grr...

I was exploring around on my way back to the next mission and just before meeting with a merchant a couple of meters down the road came 2 crazy dudes driving a car like sociopaths (or as if it was Twisted Metal or something) and they just ran down the merchant, hit & run style.

If only I thought about that PS4 share video recording :|
