Far Cry 4 PC performance thread

uggghhh the trees. why hasnt ubi allowed pc users to use hraa? nvidia has txaa(assuming it works well in this title) but amd users are forced to use performance crushing adaptive aa(assuming it works)
It's not Ubi that is not allowing developers to use certain GPU abilities within DX or OpenGL.
Like interpolator information in pixel shader. etc.

Here is more info on HRAA.

So weird, I was afk after the opening and something different happened to what's happening now...

-also msi and rtss work fine with in-game stuff for me (as in the game launches).
-doesn't save checkpoints when you exit -_____-

Do you have to completely uninstall normal AMD drivers to install beta drivers? I tried installing the beta driver earlier but after restarting it still shows I'm on the older non beta drivers/software.

Usually its recommended to use DDU to completetly removed and reinstall drivers. Don't often do it however but its highly recommended.

Yeah the checkpoint saving doesn't really work for me. I recommend you play offline so it doesn't kick you back to the start each time.

Well the weird flashing was from me trying to get a crossfire profile to work. Crossfire def seems broken even on the new beta drivers! Getting anywhere from 45 to 55 @ 1600p on one 290x.

when is this game going to go live on uPlay? I am anxious to just see how it looks on my rig with my new 970.

If anyone wants a co-op buddy for PC, add me:

First game I can't run on near Ultra with my 4GB GTX 670. Most of my settings are on High/Very High with a few on Ultra using SMAA. I'm getting around 45 fps but I don't think the counter is reliable since it said the same thing on higher settings but with extremely noticeable stutter. It doesn't matter though because there's really little difference from Ultra and the game still looks amazing.

This is my (and a lot of other people on the Steam board) experience with the game so far.
The only supposed fix is to remove and disable any HID in your device managers and play with barebones mouse and keyboard but that doesn't work. So yeah, can't even start. GG ubi.

Smaa as implemented in this tite does nothing to alleviate the shimmer on trees or even basic geometry. It also prevents you from using msaa

Try it. Tree shimmering is GREATLY reduced with it on compared to MSAA. SMAA in this game works very well, though the blurring of the backdrops is what keeps me away from it.

Read the release notes,

http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/AMDCatalyst14-11-2-BetaWINReleaseNotes.aspx

they said the crossfire profile for this game is temporarily disabled for the time being. They're working with Ubisoft to address some issues and will either have Ubisoft release a patch or AMD themselves will release another driver.

In the meantime, AFR mode works ok with crossfire in this game.

jeez... no wonder i couldn't boot far cry 4. i didn't realize that uplay pre-orders require you to enter a second key that is emailed to you once the game is released. that key ended up in my spam folder, so I could have been playing for the last hour.

uplay sucks.

Anyone else getting the old "Farcry4.exe has stopped responding" every time on the loading screen when starting SP ?

Updated Nvidia drivers to latest (344.65) and no dice

Okay updated some settings for my GTX670 2GB

Textures Medium
Shadows Medium
Everything else High
SSBC
SMAA
Trees whatever it is - Off
Motion Blur On
Fur On
1080p vsync'd

Mostly 55+ frames per second, during combat, explosions etc. the only real drop is in dense foilage areas where it can drop to mid 40's but then it usually moves around in those areas in the 50's, driving round I am getting mostly high 50's / 60fps.

The stutter I was getting earlier I think was Textures on High. It would be running the same as current settings, then bomb into the 30's and back again so probably running out of vram. But everything said, game looks amazing and is playing really nicely.

Oh what the fuck Ubisoft.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked my email and sure enough, had 2 emails waiting in my inbox for the past hour with keys for this and the season pass.

Isn't there any decent and cheap AA?

SMAA could work if it didn't have the weird effect of producing a different image when static and one when moving.

It's really annoying. I thought it was motion blur causing the shift, but it's SMAA. It's as if the image loses focus.

Yes otherwise it hangs, I just did it myself.
I'm getting better frame rates than in FC3 on a 7950. Playing with most settings on ultra.
I had to restart uplay once, no issues since.

BTW this is another title that will not run on external drives.

Holy shit. This makes me want to play heavily modded Skyrim again, not FC4.

Anyway, still trying to figure out whether i want this game or not. Seems too "samey", as in a reskin of FC3 just with a different story. And don't get me wrong, that's probably a great thing since i loved FC3, but i'm probably just sick of the formula now.

It must be a temporal smaa. I thought it was standard smaa 1x as seen in most titles

It's most likely combination of motion blur and SMAA.
If SMAA pass is done after motion blur it cannot find those polygon edges and thus does not really help..
Check if there is way to remove motion blur and see if SMAA works better.

BTW, does anyone has pics of the fur tech, would love to see the impact on image quality.

Game runs like a dream on my PC, everything set to ultra and this is before the official nvidia drivers. Such an amazing game <3

Fixed the mouse acceleration/smoothing issue. open GamerProfile.xml in your documents/mygames/far cry 4 folder. Search for "smoothness" and set it to 0

If any of the acceleration stuff is set to "1" turn that to "0" too. Pretty simple fixes and now everything controls well

Thanks. Looking forward to trying this when I get home from work.

Thanks, didn't see the notes before. AFR works ok, but all the shadows ficker non-stop when enabled. For the time being 60 fps on 1080p will do!

Yeah baby! This game is simply stunning visually! The new AMD drivers have helped as well....

Running Intel i7 3770k@4.8ghz
Sapphire 7970Ghz Edition@1200mhz Core/1650 memory
16gb DDR3

Runs maxed out besides using x2 AA @ 1080p/60fps

@AndyBNV - great article as usual, but why aim for 40fps? Seems a bit arbitrary, don't most people aim for either 30fps or 60fps?

Oh man, yea. The foliage looks so much better here, and I think that's something that is making or breaking the look of the game for me. Seems if you can get TXAA, it really goes a long way in cleaning up that foliage and makes for a much nicer looking image, even if its a tad less clear. SMAA would be second choice but leaves a bit to be desired. MSAA seems fairly ineffectual on its own, even at 4 and 8x.
